Mid-terms looming, approval falling, prices rising, wars ongoing - Ping Ping and Fu Shuang must be wondering what heinous crime they committed to be banished chosen as envoys of friendship between China and USA. 🐼🐼

Mine says pre-order with delivery by Nov 2.

They do have one copy of this gem available though 🙄

That publisher (the Kushner one) is an arm of Harper Collins that specialises in publishing books by repellent people about repellent ideas aimed at buyers who are too stupid to have learned to read. It's probably a very profitable imprint.

I watched Jonathan Swan interviewed recently and he was asked what percentage of the corruption do we know about and he estimated that about 5% is public.

I read that NYT article and I think my mouth was hanging open.

Historically, if a king had committed himself to punishing a miscreant but that decision was proving unpopular, the queen would throw herself at his feet and beg for mercy, enabling the king to appear merciful whilst not showing weakness. It was a stunt. Seem familiar?

What I don't understand is why he could escape the court for so long. I have seen news about people being extradited between states, and I assume the step father was charged at State level. But why did the state not extradite him ?

Or is this one of those "things of the times" ?

Not so much 'of the times' as 'at least he's not our problem anymore'. I assume that he didn't 'call attention to himself' in the state he fled to (assume PA since he died there) by getting reported to the cops or getting himself arrested. Or even been stopped for speeding or DUI. What he was charged with would have prompted PA to want to get rid of him. If that had happened PA would have swiftly contacted OH and arranged an extradition. But as long as he flew under the radar in PA then OH was probably 'content' that he wasn't OH's problem. Assuming OH even knew where he was. They probably weren't looking very hard for him.

This isn't too unusual in a lot of cases, even in these days. If there had been a lot of publicity/notoriety around this case then it would have been handled differently. Same for murder, kidnap, rape, or other violent crimes (not that what happened to Ms Acton wasn't violent). Or if he'd been accused of SA involving multiple children. But as I said, many states are just relieved when a (for lack of better word) 'low level' criminal flees their state. Saves them lots of money.

Ah right. Thanks for that.

So the cop shows on the telly are correct then, when they " run a plate" and it comes back with a warrant. That's what I thought it could be.

The "sweeping under the rug" aspect is interesting too. I can see how that can happen. Especially in one of the smaller towns where they might have an elected Sherriff.

It's a complex place for sure.

I watched the Georgia court case where the three men got in a pickup and chased down a black jogger and shot him. The local law were "meh" about it from the start and did not charge anyone. But seeing the evidence presented in court made that decision totally look shocking. It was basically the "good ol boys", and institutional racism. It was only higher up intervention and public pressure that got charges brought.

The current one is the Brit woman shot by her father in Texas after arguing over Trump. I am not up to date with that, but I recall it was in the news again last week. I need look it up. Another case of people having to fight to have charges brought.

Confucious?

Has Nats got a book of quotes? Or is the TV show " Kung Fu" with David Carradine being re-run on cable.

Anyway, seems Trump is claiming it as his.

The judge in the Charlie Kirk case is doing a terrible job! This case should be tried within a month, not three years -- and it should be over with! The judge is desecrating the memory of the Great Charlie Kirk, while taking forever to ask questions that people already know the answer to. The whole Country is mocking him and our "Legal" System. Well Mr President. You are the President, and you do have both houses at the moment, so where is your legislation to change it ?

@RedTagAlan

So the cop shows on the telly are correct then, when they " run a plate" and it comes back with a warrant. That's what I thought it could be.

It would only have come back to him if his 'out of state' warrant had been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. That would have been up to OH to do and it's not automatically done for every warrant issued, it's on a case by case basis. So who knows if they put in it NCIC in his case. I'd guess probably not.

But even if they had, his wife (Ms Acton's mum) fled with him and if he was smart anything 'official' (like car registration) would have been in her name. And if he was real smart, she'd have done all the driving or he would have followed the law to a T.

Just because there's a warrant, that doesn't mean the issuing state actually wants them back. If someone is pulled over and an out of state warrant is discovered the procedure is to contact the issuing state to determine if they want the person extradited. If not, they let them go their merry way. If so, off to jail they go for extradition proceedings.

SerendipityJane · 25/10/2026 10:54

Surprised this hasn't got more traction outside the US. TL;DR is that team Trump halve already decided the Alaska outcome. As in anything that isn't Republican will get tossed.

And yet Vance was accusing the UK of having two tier policing.

What is that saying ? Every accusation is an admission ?

"“Ideological conditioning and two-tiered policing are glaring symptoms of civilizational decline. They must be rejected across the West,” the U.S. State Department wrote in a social media post Thursday. "

I won't clip what Vance said.

Obama was a grossly incompetent President! He paid off Iran with $Billions, and gave them a road to a Nuclear Weapon. He said that Crooked Hillary Clinton was going to WIN, he campaigned hard for her, and she lost in all directions and ways. He then campaigned full out for Kamala, and likewise, she lost. Now he's campaigning for a Muslim Brotherhood Jihadist, who hates Jews and Blacks and AMERICANS and TRUMP, and he is going to lose, also. He's a Fake Doctor, who runs what is considered to be the WORST CLINIC IN AMERICA. I won Michigan, BIG, have brought back the Car Industry, the Air Force Base, and everything else. Also, more jobs than ever before. Michigan doesn't want an arrogant, Open Borders, Fake Doctor, Jihadist, whose reputation will only get worse as more information is revealed - And there's plenty. VOTE FOR MIKE ROGERS! He will never let you down! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

I get the impression Trump saw the vid of Obama.

The odd thing about it is, that he really really does not like their Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski.

"Sunday, October 25, 2026 3:13 AM Truth Social

The Republicans' Worst Senator, by far, Lisa Murkowski, of the Great State of Alaska (A State for which I produced, on a continuing basis, Billions and Billions of Dollars, and which Crooked Joe Biden and the Dumocrats had totally shut down -- Then I came back, and delivered even more!), who only got elected because of Corrupt Ranked Choice Voting, is upset because I revealed what everyone knows, that the Ranked Choice Voting Ballot is a TOTAL DEMOCRAT SCAM meant to confuse the Voter, so that Senator Dan Sullivan will lose Votes to a man who has never participated in Politics before, named Daniel J. Sullivan, Jr. He is only there because the Democrats want to steal the Election, and Murkowski probably wants that to happen, which is why she is against the DOJ filing a Lawsuit in order to stop this impending crime and tragedy. I have delivered for Alaska at Historic Levels, nobody has ever seen anything like it, and all I'm asking for is a FAIR AND HONEST SENATORIAL ELECTION! Lisa Murkowski is a DISGRACE to Alaska and our Country. You just don't get any worse! I hope the Great People of Alaska understand what is happening. The Democrats are trying to steal this important Republican Seat and, if that happens, everything we've done for Alaska will come to an immediate hault. VOTE "YES" AGAINST RANKED CHOIC"

Then this a one min later.

"Sunday, October 25, 2026 3:34 AM Truth Social

They've been trying to get rid of Lisa Murkowski forever in Alaska, then she came up with the Ranked Choice Voting SCAM, and pulled a nice hot iron out of the fire. Everyone thought she came in second or third, but then she "won." Miracles happen! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Mixed messaging there I think. Don't vote Dem, and one of your Senators is no good and only won by cheating.

The 'take it or leave it' out of state warrant situation isn't really two tier justice, as it isn't usually based on status, wealth, or ethnicity. It's whether or not the 'warrant' state wants the expense of extradition and trial and/or the 'notoriety' of the case. In some cases the answer is yes, in others it's "not our problem anymore".

But I think to a certain extent that there probably isn't a country on Earth that doesn't have some form of two tier justice. Just the fact that wealth will buy you a better defense is two tier justice in some way. And I think some system of 'good ol' boy/girl' and 'back scratching' will exist everywhere. Even a case with some degree of 'notoriety' will often get a good defense lawyer 'pro bono' if they think they'll get publicity or a book out of it, ie Melvin Belli and Sirhan Sirhan.
