Pretty obvious by now it's some red diesel thieves having a particularly bad time.

The farmer who called the police has just been on tv saying there were more of them than 5 and none of it makes sense!

careassistantjobs · 28/09/2026 16:49

I wonder when they’ll disclose what was actually in the vans then

When they realise how imperative it is that Joe Bloggs has full access to all police records, interviews, decision making in every single crime from pilfering red diesel to blowing up airbases.

Maybe lobby your MP for full disclosure rights for all the public on all the crimes committed from opening an investigation to ending it.

ilovebrie8 · 28/09/2026 17:00

I don’t trust a word we are told ! We’ve been lied to ad finitum …

Look at the handling of Ann Widdecombe murder that was atrocious and still is odd.

They chopped and changed the story so many times.

I am really concerned for the safety of that farmer - especially now that the alleged perps are free on bail, tho’ even before that, felt that sheis exposed and vulnerable.

If that's the case, they're not very bright. 300m from an airforce base on high alert wasn't the best location.

No, they did not. The alleged chopping and changing came from people believing the police had said things they had not. For example, many people on here were adamant that the police ruled out a political motive in their first or second statement, when what the police actually said was that they had no evidence it was political but they were keeping an open mind.

Yes, the police initially arrested someone who turned out to be innocent, but that is what happens in investigations. It is also true that the counter terrorism police were initially involved, but reports the murder had been declared an act of terrorism were jumping the gun.

There is a tendency, particularly on social media but occasionally also in the press, for people to fill in the gaps with what they thought they heard rather than looking at what was actually said.

Maybe, but TBF eye witnesses are notoriously unreliable...

I’m pretty concerned for the 5 on bail tbh with all this frothing and disbelief doing the rounds.
All lives matter.

Exactly. If anything it’s evidence that police are too open during investigations - there will always be false leads and changes in direction. Announcing all of them just gives conspiracy theorists the opportunity to declare every previous announcement a lie.

In high profile cases such as this surely there is a case for releasing information that may reassure if it wasn’t actually explosives ?

dogsaremybusiness · 28/09/2026 17:06

We allow loads of men in from Countries that hate us, and then we are faux surprised when this happens. Doh! Many more will happen, and I predict a coordinated attack one day, where all major cities will be hit on the same day.

TemperanceWest · 28/09/2026 16:55

When the case comes to court.

Black storage drums. The device was described as incendiary. Which ties in with the suggestion that they were wholly incompetent red diesel thieves.

TemperanceWest · 28/09/2026 16:22

Her name was Rhiannon Whyte.

And maybe have a chat with Rhiannon Whyte's sister who is bringing up her child. She said that Rhiannon's murder had nothing to so with immigration, and that the actions of one man should not be blamed on a whole group.of people.

Edited

Of course her murder has everything to do with immigration.
If he wasn’t here she would not have been murdered by him.

They have. They’ve said the men have been released on bail, ergo they didn’t have a bomb or means of making one.

ArcangelaTarabotti · 28/09/2026 17:08

Oh don’t worry /they’ll be protected.
Given the record of this gvt with the cosseting of perps at the expense of the victims - they certainly don’t believe that all elives matter - would bet my house they’ll be protecting those 5…

I was about to say exactly this - I think the 24 hour news cycle and the rise of online speculation are enormously unhelpful in situations like this.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 28/09/2026 17:09

1dayatatime · 28/09/2026 16:25

It's looking like they might have out stealing fuel (diesel and petrol) from farm and rural home storage (hence the drums). They were then disturbed transferring it between the vans when all hell broke loose from counter terrorism.

Probably not a good idea to be committing any illegal activity 300 metres from a major US airbase.

That said if this story comes out then there will be many conspiracy theorists dismissing it as a cover up.

Shouldn’t laugh but if that is true that’s hilarious.
Bet they actually shit themselves.

All loves matter, except those killed in terrorist attacks. Unbelievable.

In all cases under active investigation - red diesel nicking to terrorism - there is a very, very strong case to not release information that can prejudice the investigation and/or any future trial.

cardibach · 28/09/2026 17:09

As they should be. We don’t have the death penalty or corporal punishment here. What we do have is too many people who think they have the right to enact such punishments. Therefore money has to be spent on protecting people from them. It’s a sad waste, but not for the reason you think.

Where do you draw that conclusion from speculation about people released on bail?
