Fairford latest: Counter terror police investigating if Iran is linked to RAF base bomb plot, Sky News understands | UK News | Sky News https://share.google/cU4wjxGZBYQtIb3sx

I couldn't find a thread on this breaking news. How awful for everyone involved.

Call me crazy, but some of them look older than 25. There were multiple photos on social media, I would even say one of them looks like he is 40+ but just in a good physical shape.
Anyway, there is an update on bbc news that airspace is closed near the base (+ evacuated people still not allowed to ho home). We are probably told 5% of this story....if not less

Spaniels4Eva · 28/09/2026 14:33

It's not until the terror attacks start that this shambles of a Government will start to take notice of the army of men they're giving the RNLI welcome to. And they will start - I think it will be something utterly devastating and in many cities at the same time. These men aren't coming here for a better life, they are jehadis coming for a reason.

I got Oasis tickets last week and I'm already rethinking a big stadium event where 60k people are sitting targets.

The Greens state they don't advocate for 'open borders' but want 'a world without borders'. Like so many things the Greens believe in it doesn't make any sense what so ever.

Yes, exactly, the Greens have this as part of their ideology.

A world without borders ... how wonderful (not)

https://greenparty.org.uk/about/our-manifesto/a-fairer-greener-welcome/

Nothing in there about migration control and everything about removing restrictions. I would say that is tantamount to ' open borders'.

It really isn’t. Reducing restrictions is on no way the same as removing them all.

I am more careful too, I was invited to a big event at London but I cancelled it, simply not worth the risk these days... I wouldn't go to places like arenas, halls even for free...

ilovebrie8 · 28/09/2026 14:36

When did they become British nationals? That needs answering along what is their ethnicity?

I see the “hero Lady” farmer is having a great time with her 15 mins of fame talking to all and sundry. Increasingly looks like she got in the middle of an existing counter terror operation. Bet they were pissed when she called the police.

You should absolutely not phone the police to report a crime. Naughty lady farmer!!

bannabead · 27/09/2026 17:18

I read it was a member of the public who reported suspicious activity

Or that’s the claim - perhaps our security services don’t want terrorists to know they we’re watching/folliwing them - just a thought!

The normal airspace restrictions around the base were I believe extended at some point yesterday, probably as.much as anything to stop the newsgathers getting too many images of what the police and others are up to...not sure if there's been another extension today.

The overhead video of the bomb disposal robot at work near the vehicles that was doing the rounds appears to have been an official release by the police.

Let's not speculate. It could be Palestine Action: Jacob, Tristan, Rupert, Olly and Phoebe the trans girl.

cardibach · 28/09/2026 14:34

It really isn’t. Reducing restrictions is on no way the same as removing them all.

So where have they said how they are going to manage migration? At all? That manifesto is all about removing existing restrictions completely- the no recourse to public funds, spouse salary, detention centres, restrictions on working- all removed. Not reduced. Nothing put in its place apart from 'safe routes'. When questioned they trip out the line that they wish for a ' world without borders' but it's not in the Manifesto. So they are advocating for open borders. They just haven't written it in their current manifesto. The more openly crackpot they get and the more anarchists, SWP travellers and Islamists they welcome into their party the less likely they will be to get elected so that's something. The problem is that there are too many people within Labour who would rather they were more like the current Green Party.

yes this is a possibility. One of them looked White I though. Great way to get your proscription overturned!

It will be suggested that it's the pesky far right again.
Either that or some nutjob conspiracy theory saying it was the Americans, Israelis or the Royal family behind it all.

I’ve already seen people predictably suggesting it was Mossad (not on here though).

True. It must be inconvenient for the public to see an image or have eye witnesses.

dustabsorber · 28/09/2026 14:46

The BBC seems to have lightened the suspects skin colour. In the picture I saw on X, none of them looked white.

Dollymylove · 28/09/2026 14:47

This government is way, way out of its depth.
They are running round like headless chickens. What part of we dont want 1000s of undocumented middle eastern me roaming free in our streets do they not understand?.
Then Burnham goes and prejudices a fair trial by stating publicly that he thinks a defendant awaiting trial is racist.
He should know better and probably does, but he still said it. Publicly

Horses7 · 28/09/2026 14:48

1dayatatime · 28/09/2026 13:19

To be fair the Government is trying to help by handing out leaflets to refugees advising them that it is wrong and not acceptable to sexually assault, harass and rape women in the UK.

Maybe if they had also handed out leaflets saying that it is wrong and not acceptable to carry large amounts of explosives in your vehicles and to not attack military bases then this attempted attack might never have happened?

This!
I find it (almost!) unbelievable that we are letting all these young men roam the country when we don’t know who the hell they are.
I’m sure in the future when common sense prevails (hopefully) we will look back on these times and think ‘did we really allow that’ !
A bit like smoking on planes etc.

Thatsanotherfinemess1 · 28/09/2026 14:51

Can someone explain what a British national is, legally, please. The government guidance linked to above www.gov.uk/types-of-british-nationality only defines British National (overseas) rather than British National and that definition doesn't look to apply here "British national (overseas)
Someone who was a British overseas territories citizen (previously British dependent territories citizen) by connection with Hong Kong was able to register as a British national (overseas) before 1 July 1997.
British overseas territories citizens from Hong Kong who did not register as British nationals (overseas) and had no other nationality or citizenship on 30 June 1997 became British overseas citizens on 1 July 1997."
So who is a British National and does it apply to someone who came here as an asylum seeker or illegally but has been given leave to remain?

Westfacing · 28/09/2026 14:52

Someone on Gransnet suggested it was fuel thieves, possible I suppose!

5MinuteArgument · 28/09/2026 14:25

UK is on track to become Jihadi Central as European countries start to wake up and understand what's happening. Here the refugees welcome open borders brigade hold far too much sway with our government and institutions.

We're sleepwalking into a very serious national security situation and all the government has to offer is safe routes for Afghans and Palestinians, a clamp down on free speech and fast tracking anyone who protests into prison.

But don't forget we've got the £2 bus fare to look forward to in January.

No, it doesn’t. The link - including the bit you quoted - is clear on classes of people who are nationals.
Edit: the list of ways to be a national on there is exhaustive. If you aren’t in one of those groups you aren’t a British national.

Ihateboris · 28/09/2026 14:54

What will it take to say "enough is enough "? I'm starting to wonder if there is some sort of financial benefit to the government or else Why, just why are they still allowed to keep coming here.

inamarina · 28/09/2026 14:55

Alantraitor · 28/09/2026 14:08

Of course.

An example is that Trump said he would "do a lot for Israel" during his election campaign. And he has indeed done a lot for Israel.

Whether you agree with US support for Israel or not, Trump wasn't talking nonsense about his support, or lying about it.

Another example I can think of is from a little while back, but pretty relevant today:

During his address to the UN General Assembly in 2018, Trump warned Germany of over-reliance on Russian gas. There is footage of members of the German delegation smirking and chuckling in response to his remarks.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Germany’s heavy dependence on Russian energy triggered a severe national security and economic crisis.
