How much would you pay for Mumsnet?

Imagine it Mumsnet was subscription-based either on a monthly/annual basis or a one-time fee to gain access

How much would you be willing to pay?

This somehow warped into what is attractive to an advertiser, which didn't form part of my original reply. My original reply/replies were regarding the differentiation between user/audience/product. Advertisement or what has value to an advertiser on Mumsnet does not differ from any media – be that newspaper, magazine, television, website, etc. Users creating content nonwithstanding.

So what were you actually saying? What was your point? That the value of Mumsnet is not just about mumsnetters but also its infrastructure? Sorry just trying to understand

My original reply/replies were that I would not pay to use the forum, but that the infrastructure is part of a product like Mumsnet, not separate from the product. And that we are users of the product, not the product itself. This has nothing to do with what advertisers find valuable about the site.

A lot of words but not a huge amount of sense
but ok

GlaikitWeeNyaff · 28/09/2026 15:22

I would leave the forum rather than pay.

That's OK – I don't require your sign off on it.

ElizaSchuyler · 28/09/2026 15:23

Nothing. I'd find an alternative

I disagree. We are the product.

Me too

Great. We don't all have to agree with each other.

664eek · 28/09/2026 15:27

Users (or more specifically, access to users) is the product. That’s what’s being paid for.

Of course, no infrastructure no access. But that doesn’t make infrastructure the product. A baker can’t make bread without an oven but it doesn’t follow that the oven is the product.

Yes we do

If Mumsnet is making you feel “anxious” @SmallDFartyCarNRG - delete your account!

I am trying to block the corners that have the most shrill posters but they come out into AIBU and mainstream boards when they don't get enough attention (because everyone blocks them I suspect). It is a good indicator for me of my anxiety but yes, if it gets too bad I go off for a few days. If they charged I just wouldn't come back. I am ruthless with "extras" that I can get freely elsewhere.

Same for using Vivaldi as your web browser.

HQ will never release figures of how many do pay because I suspect it’s meagre
