Imagine it Mumsnet was subscription-based either on a monthly/annual basis or a one-time fee to gain access

How much would you be willing to pay?

The only thing I'd really miss is the Emmerdale forum 🤣

JaneJeffer · 27/09/2026 22:24

If we weren’t here nobody would pay to advertise on here

Exactly
@Didimum is waffling on about infrastructure etc
bit it’s as simple as that- no “us”… no Mumsnet

Nearly50omg · 28/09/2026 07:35

£0!! The app already makes my phone overheat badly!!

ILoveListeningToRainAtNight · 28/09/2026 08:07

Nothing.

Candlesniffin · 28/09/2026 08:09

I wouldn't pay a thing. I'm cancelling pretty much all subscriptions, it's got ridiculous. A forum is npt worth it to me.

Infrastructure forms part of a product – it directly enables the product to operate.

The users continually drop off and are replaced by new ones. You are an audience member and a user.

UniquePinkSwan · 28/09/2026 08:26

Nothing. They need to sort out the moderation first. It’s a man hating, trans hating circus right now

And?

Pipsthegame · 28/09/2026 09:22

Mumsnet doesn’t go to advertisers and sells its infrastructure

it goes to advertisers and sells us

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 28/09/2026 09:28

I am barely returning if I am honest. If they charged that would be it for me. The ads are annoying, too many right wing nutters and click bait threads. The level of outrage on some corners is unhinged and makes me worry for humanity, but then they are likely not real posters - no one knows. I feel anxious using it these days which never happened a couple of years ago.

CherryBlossom321 · 28/09/2026 09:29

I wouldn’t. There’s plenty of other free forums.

If Mumsnet is making you feel “anxious” @SmallDFartyCarNRG - delete your account!

SnappyPenguin · 28/09/2026 09:32

I wouldn't. If they charged there wouldn't be much of a forum left.

EverardDeTroyes · 28/09/2026 09:35

I've always said I wouldn't in the past. I've been here 22 years. Now, for the first time, I could afford to pay and I can see it might have advantages, eg getting rid of trolls. But no, I still wouldn't pay. I'd consider it the kick I need to get off this site and get out more into the real world.

It would get rid of trolls but also a lot of the genuine posters who need real help.

It amazes me how many people find themselves in abusive relationship etc.

GasPanic · 28/09/2026 09:48

I'm too skint paying out for my 4x4 and my seven holidays a year to Disneyland and Lapland to afford this.

Do they have rather than a subscription a donation thing ?

Sometimes I think people are more willing to give say £10 here and there rather than sign up to a subscription they might forget about.

Clambakestripstothecape · 28/09/2026 09:51

I wouldn't pay. Even Justine calling us freeloaders didn't move me to want to pay. I'd just stop using it if it became pay-to-use.

Did Justine say that?

If so, that would make me more determined than ever to not pay a penny to Mumsnet 😆

It was a while ago on a thread about the premium version of MN, so I can't remember the exact thread. If you Google something like 'Justine Mumsnet freeloaders' you'll find lots of threads across various forums and social media, and articles about it, including on Mumsnet.

There is a line in a song

"You pay for love, but the hate comes free"

In this context it means that there is so much hatemongering and blatantly racist and ableist posting that is supported (by being allowed to stand) that any attempt to extract even a penny would simply see me no loger here.

Although a penny is cheap. I think the current premium is 30 pieces of silver.

notanothernamesurely · 28/09/2026 12:26

A platform such as Mumsnet is hardly revolutionary. Advertisers won’t give a damn about the infrastructure. All about the clout of mumsnetters and the potential appeal of what they’re trying to see to the Mumsnet demographic

This somehow warped into what is attractive to an advertiser, which didn't form part of my original reply. My original reply/replies were regarding the differentiation between user/audience/product. Advertisement or what has value to an advertiser on Mumsnet does not differ from any media – be that newspaper, magazine, television, website, etc. Users creating content nonwithstanding.
