So I really hate fresh ginger in drinks/food but I absolutely love gingerbread and ginger nuts

I love aniseed balls but detest Ricard

love a piece of fresh coconut and dishes with coconut cream but anything else like sweets or cake with coconut I can’t bear

What do you love/hate?

(I’m not counting things like banana flavoured things because that doesn’t taste like banana as we know it)

I hate oranges, the smell of them make me feel sick, but I love orange flavoured chocolate.

I like mince, tinned tomatoes, pasta but hate lasagne and spaghetti bolognese

CoffeeandCakeBreak · 27/09/2026 10:05

Avacado - only in guacamole, never in any other form

Onion - never ever raw. Not in onion rings. Not in big chunks. Not in onion soup. But chopped up small, and cooked as an ingredient in some other dish is absolutely fine

Tomatoes - has to be cooked

Love cherries but hate anything cherry flavoured. Always tastes like marzipan which I hate

Talking of which, I love almonds but hate marzipan!

Also coffee - love the smell especially of freshly brewed coffee…but cannot stand the taste…lattes, cappuccinos, cakes, sweets - can’t abide any of them

Edited

I am exactly the same with coffee!

Don't like cream - cream cakes are not naughty or nice.

Arran2024 · 27/09/2026 13:20

I like confectioner's custard but can't stand real custard

Tuna steak, very lightly seared, is delicious.

Tuna in a can is revolting and I wouldn't even feed it to my cats.

I've never tried tuna steak because I hate the small and look of tuna in a can so much. And the smell of a kitchen after someone's been eating it, and the smell of it on their breath...

Do you like other fish?

Tuna steak is completely unlike tinned tuna. I like tinned tuna and I like most fish, but I don't like tuna steak!

JBJ · 27/09/2026 14:31

Can’t stand avocado but I like guacamole

I was like that. But tuna steak is totally different. It's hard to believe it's the same fish.

A friend convinced me to try a bit of hers, and I was sold.

I love apples yet hate apple pie . Hate hot fruit of any kind yet will eat all fruit in it’s natural state.

anon666 · 27/09/2026 17:46

Oh wow, yes, eggs. I love the taste of eggs in French toast, but can't bear them in any other form - boiled, fried, poached, scrambled or even omelette. I think its the texture but it might just be psychological that French toast "isn't eggs"

I'm a bit iffy with fish in general. I usually like it when it's well cooked and not stinky though.

I might try it then, but with the cost of fish these days it could be an expensive experiment.

Was going to say you’re all weird; if I like something, I like it in all forms. Then I realised I love mushrooms: sautéd, in risotto, mushroom soup…but don’t fancy them raw. To be honest, I haven’t tried them but couldn’t face eating them unless cooked!

I prefer them raw! In a vinaigrette with plenty of parsley

They're no good boiled. Swede is better roasted too.

Really??? I have never roasted swede! Though I only ever eat it mashed with carrots and an obscene amount of Kerrygold 😂

YorkieTheRabbit · 29/09/2026 10:50

Mint, it’s absolutely fine in toothpaste or a polo but why the hell put it in chocolate, new potatoes or peas 🤢

Really. They're far sweeter when roasted. In a good way.
You can microwave swede - cut a thick slice and cook it like you would a baked potato. Got that one off MN - it's a lot nicer than you think.
