So I really hate fresh ginger in drinks/food but I absolutely love gingerbread and ginger nuts

I love aniseed balls but detest Ricard

love a piece of fresh coconut and dishes with coconut cream but anything else like sweets or cake with coconut I can’t bear

What do you love/hate?

(I’m not counting things like banana flavoured things because that doesn’t taste like banana as we know it)

Like a previous poster, I enjoy chocolate bars but cannot tolerate anything chocolate "flavoured" including cake, it's absolutely vile and I chuck it in the fuckit bucket. Same with strawberries, love the fruit but can't abide nasty synthetic strawberry flavored things. Especially pink "strawberry" ice cream and milkshakes.

Yes, for me it’s ginger too. I hate ginger in any desserts or cookies. But I like in Indian curries and Indian tea.

I love raw cheese, less so in cooked food.

Lime and lemon, love them in drinks, hate them in desserts.

Tuna steak, very lightly seared, is delicious.

Tuna in a can is revolting and I wouldn't even feed it to my cats.

I’m the opposite. Can’t stand tuna steaks

I used to hate marzipan, but then I started making my own and it’s much better.

I love marzipan especially and Bakewell tarts.

I like coffee, but I can’t stand coffee flavoured anything. Cake, ice cream, sweets, whatever. 🤮

Love fresh cherries, but glacé cherries are utterly disgusting.

Edited

I agree about cherries. But cherry icecream taste great with coconut icecream :)

BeardySchnauzer · 26/09/2026 07:36

My in laws come from a part of the world where marzipan is the local delicacy so every Christmas we get marzipan sweets. The one I detest the most are a cube with a layer of cake, a layer of fruit jelly and a layer of marzipan covered - all covered in chocolate. 🤮

I hope the people at my local food bank like marzipan

Tinned and smoked salmon are amazing. Cooked fresh salmon is slimy and revolting.

Shangrilalala · 26/09/2026 08:03

Agree about corn on the cob - divine healthy fast food, particularly when oozing with salty butter (less healthy)

But then someone gets all cheffy and chargrills in on the cob and cuts it off in slices. Why?

And don’t get me started on creamed sweetcorn. That really shouldn’t be allowed.

FrangipaniBlue · 26/09/2026 08:13

Banana.

i can happily eat one sliced with ice cream/caramel sauce, sliced on pancakes, or in a banoffee pie, or in a fresh smoothie.

but just chomping on a banana ? Absolutely not.

Fallulah · 26/09/2026 08:25

Eggs here too!

I love all forms of cooked egg - egg and soldiers (yes, I’m in my 40s), poached, scrambled, quiche, cake (!). Can’t stand cold eggs - the grey around the yolk, the smell 🤢! I have been known to run away from DH eating a scotch egg.

sugarandcyanide · 26/09/2026 08:26

Artificial orange cheese slices, disgusting things but I can't eat a burger without one.

I can only eat cheese sandwiches if the cheese is grated, if it's sliced it's too overpowering and not a nice texture.

Chocolate is nicer if its thin, like easter egg chocolate or those little bars of dairy milk.

Sherararara · 26/09/2026 08:28

Love chocolate logs, but can’t eat a real log if you paid me.

NerdyBird · 26/09/2026 08:52

Apple - took me years to realise I just don’t like raw apple. Cooked is much nicer!
Peanut butter strictly belongs on toast or in satay sauce. Don’t like it in chocolate, ice-cream or other sweet things. Actual peanuts are fine in most cases.

For ages dd would only eat melted cheese on a pizza. Cheese on toast, cheese toastie or panini were not acceptable even though they are pretty much the same thing! Now she will eat a panini, but cheese on toast is still a no!

I love Reeses peanut butter cups but can't stand peanut butter otherwise.

I'm the opposite! love peanut butter on toast, but any kind of peanut butter chocolate is revolting

Echobelly · 26/09/2026 10:00

Kind of opposite to @BeardySchnauzer , I like ginger as an ingredient in savoury dishes, but I don't like it in sweet

Malasana · 26/09/2026 10:01

I like eggs in all forms but absolutely hate omelettes.
I can eat fresh bananas but not anything banana flavoured or banana bread.
I like apples but not apple crumble.

elliesmummy19 · 26/09/2026 10:05

I looooooathe eggs. They absolutely repulse me. But I’ll eat cake with egg in.

Enko · 26/09/2026 10:07

Coffe hot only. Not iced or in cakes/desserts (can't stand Tiramisu and it's become this standard desserts people think everyone likes. No thank you)

salmon fillets are one of my favourite foods. Can't eat tinned or smoked!

Charalam · 26/09/2026 10:52

I love almonds but can’t eat marzipan or Bakewell.

MCF86 · 26/09/2026 10:57

Hate avocados, like guacamole.

Hate almonds/almond flavour, LOVE toblerone.
(edit: at least I thought I hate them. I'll have to try them again based on everyone else in this thread! DEFINITELY not bakewell/marzipan though 🤢)

Like carrots, but only roasted.

PITA22 · 26/09/2026 11:00

Only like coconut in curries or lassi.
