Who do you think is a good TV interviewer?

I was just watching the Earl Spencer interview on the BBC and am not a fan of Laura Kuensberg. Wondered if others like her though and if not who do you think is a good interviewer? I think Emily Maitlis was good when she interviewed Andrew.

Not TV but the man on Celebrities go dating’
Paul Brunson has a YT channel that I happened to come across the other day ( he was interviewing Kelly Osborne ) and I thought he was a brilliant interviewer
Not the hardcore Jeremy Paxman type , but a more relaxed ,empathetic type of interviewer

Again not a TV interviewer but YouTube channel Stepping Through Film (Thomas Duke) is someone I think really gets the best out the people he interviews.

I used to really enjoy Andrew Neil interviewing politicians. He pulled no punches.

Madeley? really?

I quite like Cathy Newman & Sophie Ridge. Rachel Burden on 5Live is good.

Depends on who they're interviewing and what about. I think we've lost the power hitters of interviewing and the current political/financial ones are a bit ordinary in comparison to the likes of Frost.

On the box I enjoy interviews with people who enjoy the topic being interviewed by others who enjoy it like cookery shows with the Hairy Bikers or Rick Stein where they seemed to love meeting interesting cooks and talk about the food. I know it's trendy to hate on Greg Wallace but I enjoyed his shows where he went around explaining how food factories function talking to the people.

Maybe it's because I have less interest in general politics and celebrities these days. Do they still have the Sunday morning politics shows or what the papers say, can't remember the last time I watched one (tend to be out Sunday morning).

Tom Rosenthal - (singer/songwriter) - is superb on his ‘Strangers on a bench’ podcast.

Kirsty Young.

Absolutely. She is brilliant. Empathetic but at the same time can get people to open up. I still miss her on Desert Island Discs.

I really liked Mishal Hussain. She was great on the Today programme R4.

It was a shame when he sold his soul and credibility by joining GB news.

“it's trendy to hate on Greg Wallace”

I don’t think people dislike him because it’s trendy. I think it’s because of the sexual harassment allegations, the patronising way he spoke to female contestants, that hilarious interview where he sounded more Alan Partridge than Alan Partridge, bullying, racist comments, the pizza restaurant venture, and so on.

Personally I thought he was a terrible interviewer.

Agree Laura K is awful

mumumental · 19/09/2026 08:52

Kuennsberg is a highly effective interviewer, though.

I agree. I stopped watching the news years ago. Then discovered c4 news, so much better than the bbc/itv. I feel like reporting in general is just so blah across so many news outlets these days.

That used to be my reaction to him (his cringy Ali G impression is seared into my memory) but his recent Inside the Mega Prison documentary was surprisingly good.

Victoria Derbyshire is very good @SherbertsHerberts
