Who do you think is a good TV interviewer?

I was just watching the Earl Spencer interview on the BBC and am not a fan of Laura Kuensberg. Wondered if others like her though and if not who do you think is a good interviewer? I think Emily Maitlis was good when she interviewed Andrew.

Some good suggestions here, especially for me Krishnan, Sophie Ridge and Louis Theroux. Overall I prefer it when they listen and try to get people to open up, not go on the attack as much.

Louis Theroux, also a soft spot for Graham Norton!

Hate Jonathan Ross he just talks over them and doesn't actually ask questions a lot of the time.

Kuennsberg is a highly effective interviewer, though.

Is she though?

That, tonight, was dreadful. Like, really bad.

Along the lines of - the KING of OUR COUNTRY is mad at you - why should we believe you if the KING is mad at you" - or Are you responsible for her being in Paris that night and getting into that car because you introduced Martin Bashir to her and and and ... - THE KING.

Seriously, she was appalling.

I don't think she came across well in that interview either and she seemed to have zero empathy when he was upset. She could have put forward better points than just believing the other Charles because he is the King.

i would say Graham Norton
depends what you want

or Justin Webb and Mishal Hussain

Richard Madley is good at interviewing ordinary people on say good morning Britain as he really sounds like he is genuinely interested in them. Suzzana does not in those cases.

Agree Op, I think Emily Maitland would have given Charles Spencer more of a grilling, like so why have you waited all these years to come out with this stuff

Littledidsheknow · 21/09/2026 09:17

Bewildered that people are mentioning Victoria Derbyshire.
I was saying to DH how absolutely bloody awful she was a few nights ago on Newsnight: she asks a guest questions then constantly interrupts, not even letting them finish a sentence or make their point.
Its one thing to “pull no punches” like Jeremy Paxman or Andrew Neil, but you have to actually let your interviewee make their point before you pull it apart.

Sarah Montague on World at One on R4 is terrible for interrupting, I tend not to listen if she's presenting.

I agree that Laura Kuennsberg didn't come across well in the clips I saw of her interviewing Earl Spencer, she looked angry. Not very impartial, but then the BBC lost its impartiality badge a long time ago.
