I still don’t understand why the so-called Putney Pusher has never been identified

As per my title, he looks so recognisable - if you know him I mean. Presumably his family are shielding him?
I’m aware of this weeks’ news very sad update regarding a suspect and the suspect’s family ruling him out.
So who is he?

I was googling the same thing yesterday. I’ve seen images of men for example after football events and they have had similarity to people I know but there is always a tell, a reason I know it’s not them. If I thought for one second the police were after someone I knew I would report them. No way would I be protecting this person and someone (if it’s not the man who just died) must honestly know who this is.

Cretin is unacceptable language.

She wasn't seriously hurt because of an enormous amount of luck and the excellent driving from the bus driver, not because the man didn't commit a seriously violent act that could have easily led to her death.

He pushed an unknown woman in front of a bus. This person is a serious, serious threat. As you've said many times you would protect him from justice. That is shameful and disgusting. The next woman he pushes in front of a bus might not be so lucky. I hope that's not you.

I don’t care - I would not be the one reporting a family member for a crime such as this. It’s interesting how you and OP both extrapolated that I would therefore not report a murder or a rape?? That’s quite the leap. I would never protect a murderer or a rapist, even if it were my own child.

The crime was clearly attempted murder.

No idea @GstaadGuyIsModeratelyHot I just don’t understand why such identifiable footage of a person is still unidentified
We would all recognise our friends or family from the footage surely

And? Many wouldn't report their friend or relative even for murder..

But the person who did it intended to cause serious harm or death. Intention matters.

Obviously I can't see the deleted post so don't know if it's referring to the pusher but how do you know the intention was to cause death? Are you saying you know who the man is/was?

If you push someone in front of a bus you're intending to seriously injure them or kill them because that is the likely outcome of pushing someone Infront of a bus. Surely, that's obvious!

If you push someone under the path of a bus, what else do you think the intention might be? And I said serious harm or death, did you miss that bit?

I agree with you. Even if family would keep schtum surely neighbours would recognise the shape and clothes of someone they knew who likely ran regularly dressed like that. When I have heard about the case over the years I assumed it might have been a tourist as it seemed so odd that he wasn't recognised. I am also wondering if the man arrested recently had been one of the 50 previously questioned.

Snooks1971 · 18/09/2026 19:39

Hey I don’t believe one way or another, sorry. I was sort of hoping that was him, so why are the family disputing it?

Call me daft, but could it be ecause they don't want to be forever associated with the memory of a rich and well connected psycho who had a habit of attempting to murder women?

mathanxiety · 18/09/2026 21:34

Snooks1971 · 18/09/2026 20:35

I agree. My OP was that nothing is categorically proved, despite a very clear image of a man running. Not the face I know. But the gait and the side profile.

And the prior record of running a woman over with his motorbike and leaving the scene, and probably a tipoff from his ex wife.

It's a bit like one punch deaths imo, the intention to push/punch is there but I dont think convictions are usually for murder are they?

Obviously it won't apply here anyway as no one died. Is attempted manslaughter an actual crime, it seems a contradictory concept

Crushed23 · 18/09/2026 20:44

Don’t be ridiculous, of course I would report a murder. That’s completely different, but you know that.

This very nearly was a murder! Certainly it was attempted murder. This wasn’t just a man shoving a woman because she was in the way. This was a man who went out of his way to shove her into the stream of traffic.

So yes, attempted murder and yes I’d report my brother for it.

If I saw a video of my brother pushing a pedestrian into the road, I would be absolutely disgusted with him, but like fuck would I be reporting it to the police.

I suspect most families would be the same.

No, I love my brother (much as he pisses me off) but protecting him if he had attempted murder... no way. The victim has people who love her too. That wouldn't make me a great sister, it would make me a shit.

It’s attempted murder! He went out of his way to push her into traffic. Far worse than one unlucky punch in a bust up.

This was unprovoked, opportunistic attack on a stranger. That was like,y to have killed her.

Ahh I see your confusion.

It's different because the 'normal' or 'expected' outcome from pushing or punching someone is not death. In almost all cases a push or a punch would result in ABH or at most GBH. A death from a punch would be an unexpected consequence.

Of course, pushing someone into the path of a bus will almost certainly result in very serious injury and likely death. An average person could reasonably forsee/would expect someone run over by a bus to die. The law will therefore assume that the intent was to seriously injure or kill.

For example, if I shot you, even if the bullet missed and you were completely unharmed, I could be charged with attempted murder because any reasonable person knows that the likely outcome of shooting someone is that they will die. If I gave you a nasty paper cut and it got infected and you died, I wouldn't be charged with murder because it's not foreseeable to the reasonable person that a papercut would kill someone.

This is an upper class family with a long way to fall. Reputation is everything to them.

I'm not even saying they're consciously lying - they may well have convinced themselves it's not him, whether it is or not. Very common when a loved one commits a crime.

I don't know if it's him or not but the fact his family claim it isn't is meaningless.

This. ^

But you would protect someone with the history of violently attacking women which is what this was. An attack. One that he could reasonably know could have ended her life.

But that’s a completely different scenario. In law, the likely outcome of the action is taken into account. Death isn’t a likely outcome of being punched. It is a likely outcome of being pushed in front of a fast moving bus. No one can realistically say ‘I didn’t think them being hit by a bus would cause any serious harm’.
If someone shoots someone in the head, the likely outcome is death. Therefore it would probably be considered attempted murder.

VC10vTristar · 18/09/2026 21:57

This may be nothing but…to me, the rear head hairline shown in the clip of the “pusher” looked different to the (natural?) hairline in the photos of the man released under investigation.
