Perimenopause Hilarity

Has anyone else gone completely f ing bananas literally over the course of a couple of months when entering peri menopause 🤣

I ask because I’m normally quite a sane person. But here is a list of things that have happened the last few weeks and I’d like to make a post that people can join with their insane symptoms if it helps to vent.

. Randomly received the gift of a frozen shoulder.
. Watched a horror film with my son and cried that the ghost was only being nasty because it had had a traumatising death.
. Cried at my desk when one of my staff members told me her son had come home from nursery saying no one had played with him that day.
. Presented a meeting for 50 people and in the middle turned into a blotchy tomato, started sweating then tried to have a panic attack about absolutely nothing.
. My brain has decided that certain people who never bothered me before now enrage me for absolutely no reason whatsoever.
. Waking up at 2am like I’ve just been swimming

please feel free to join and make me feel less unhinged 🤣🤣🤣

Awww, that poor ghost 😭.

I burst into tears because I couldn't remember how to turn the dishwasher on.

I had called my husband from the other room to come and check it because it appeared to be broken.

I just forgot to press the 'on' button. I sobbed.

Someone said hello on a dog walk and asked how I was. After he carried on walking, i cried.

I basically cried for a couple of years before the penny dropped at 44 and I got some HRT. Thank goodness.

I feel like I could do with a bit of over sensitivity. I have gone the other way. Everyone gets on my nerves and I can feel my sense of humour abandoning me! It’s so strange there are things that I know I would have loved and laughed at 5 years ago that I now roll my eyes at.

I once sank to the floor, actually slid down the wall in slow motion, weeping, because my kitchen floor was dirty.

My behaviour was so off during those years, but that one always stays with me just for being so totally ludicrous.

dairydebris · 17/09/2026 09:42

I cry every time an ambulance rushes past and all the cars move out of the way to let it through.

I frequently wake up absolutely furious for no reason and feel hatred for physical objects that get in my way and sometimes even shout at them.

I wonder who I will be on the other side.

JojoButBetter · 17/09/2026 09:47

Yes, ordered my daughters birthday gifts and have had them posted across 3 different addresses as I never checked shipping address. One address I haven't lived at for 3 years but I used husbands Amazon account and never checked addresses. I now need to spend the weekend driving across country to attempt to retrieve the gifts!!

BaublesAndGlitter · 17/09/2026 09:48

I am at the start of this and it’s awful. I’ve never been a crier but I literally cried at my desk yesterday because DH and LO sent me a voice note on the way to school singing a silly song.

Also, put the milk away in a cupboard and was then annoyed with DH for finishing the milk so I couldn't have tea. Found it the following day and obviously had to throw it out.

Oh and the mood swings. Like being a teenager. In the course of an hour I can look at DH and feel so grateful and in love, then fancy him, then absolutely enraged by him without him doing anything at all.

It’s bloody exhausting!

henlake7 · 17/09/2026 09:49

Well, I just had a tooth removed yesterday due to severe gum disease and have 50% bone loss in my jaw.🙁
Zero identifiable cause for this to happen except it started during perimenopause. I was expecting the hot flushes, brain fog, joint pain, etc.....never expected my teeth to fall out!😭

Take vit B12. I had gum issues, discovered my b12 level was on the floor. My levels are now much better and gums are healthy. It won't reverse the damage but it might help prevent more issues.

So just curious... I woke up 2 nights ago soaked with sweat and when you said waking up like youve been swimming...could this be the start? Im 36...

Summerhillsquare · 17/09/2026 10:06

Having to stop the car for a little nap, pretty and colourful visual migraines, forgetting to take my shopping list out with me...those are the lighter symptoms I would say!

Crunchymum · 17/09/2026 10:06

My delight this month is an extra period.

Only 2.5 weeks after my last one.

Fuck this shit.

@Crunchymum I get that. Mine like to surprise me now. They wait until I have the new cycle figured out, then just do what they want.

dudsville · 17/09/2026 10:20

Ah, my sympathies to all of my younger sisters, your posts have given me a laugh. Mine was now a while back for me, but I can say that, for me, I've had such a fabulous life of hormonal stability in menopause (why is it called menopause though, why isn't it menostop?) and I appreciate it so much. The emotional intensity whilst having to go about a working day as if I'm feeling fine was just so much effort. One of my finest non professional moments at work was during the dying embers of peri. I put my hand up in the "stop" gesture and said "sorry folks, I just need to pause this for a moment, for fuck's sake". The ffs was regarding the topic of discussion, and I just needed a breather from the weird mix of horror and folly in the topic.

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2026 10:35

I got ridiculously forgetful. I once drove round and round the third floor of a multi storey car park for about fifteen minutes trying to locate the exit ramp and missing it completely. It was a very obvious exit ramp, clearly signposted, I'd used that car park weekly for years, but my brain just wouldn't compute how to get out of there. Just bizarre.

I'm a good few years post meno now, and thankfully my brain has regained its sharpness and I no longer feel like I'm losing my marbles.

When does that happen @DramaAlpaca ?

I think I somewhat screwed up the natural sequence by taking HRT during peri, then stopping it thinking it was causing weight gain and mood issues (although it had solved the night sweats, insomnia and and bladder weakness which were my worst physical peri symptoms) and then restarting a different HRT regime when I was a year without a period...

My sadness/ numbness, memory issues and general mood and cognitive stuff just won't shift though.

With the HRT I'm not actually totally sure where I am an whether I'm peri still or post, not least because I've recently had post menopausal bleeding, which my doctor helpfully suggested might just mean I'm not post menopausal and my hormones are just having a final splutter, all mixed up with the HRT (I've just had curettage to investigate the bleeding).

I really feel as though everything is a bit shit these days - I'd very much like to believe this will rectify itself!

Same. The only symptom I have is pure fucking rage at, well, everyone. Idiots.

TurtleCavalryIsSeriousShit · 17/09/2026 11:58

Oh the rage! Itchy ears. Itchy skin. Crying over nothing. Urgh.

I discovered a TikTok this morning where the lady said that she had had her arms her whole life, but all of a sudden when she's trying to sleep, they are in the way, and OMG did that resonate. My arms have been getting in the way and my sleep is so uncomfortable. Between the arms and the hip pain, I'm like a rotisserie chicken at night!

DramaAlpaca · 17/09/2026 17:47

@Wechsel not sure really, I just gradually noticed I no longer needed help finding the right word at the end of sentences! I'd like to tell you it was so many years after my last period, but thanks to the Mirena my periods stopped at 46. I'd say it was early 50s that my memory started to go back to normal, probably at around the time I'd naturally have finished having periods IYKWIM. I didn't start HRT until I was 58, but my memory improved before then I'm sure. Sorry, I know I'm being vague - maybe I'm still confused!!

Can I also add - my DH is very lucky indeed that 'the rage' was not part of my menopausal symptoms. He'd be under the patio by now if it had been.

Takingtigermountainbystrategy · 17/09/2026 19:02

For some reason repeatedly swiped my credit card over my front door lock before I came to my senses and found my key

Thanks anyway. I'm already in my 50s...

I remember the rage in my late 30s - that's when my periods went haywire (flooding, irregular) but I'd just had my third baby in four years and peri wasn't even on my radar, I assumed it was sleep deprivation and being patient with the kids and everyone else being idiots 🫣 To be fair a lot of other external stresses were also in play.

I think the rage was gone long before I even thought I was in peri or menopause - it wasn't until the hot flushes, bladder weakness and insomnia that I put things together.

This has been going on for at least 14 years!

Gettingbysomehow · 17/09/2026 20:56

I remember electric ants with molten metal feet running all over my body. It was the worst thing ever.

leavingonajetplane76 · 17/09/2026 21:04

Spend about 5 minute trying to put the milk carton back in the fridge but it wouldn't fit. Took everything out of the door, rearranged it and it still wouldn't go in. I got it out of the fiedge so why wasn't it going back in???? I had the kettle in my hand!

Lost my purse found it in the fridge

drove to my old house that I haven't live in for 11 years instead of going home

Imupforthat · 17/09/2026 21:13

My intro to peri was quietly sitting sewing one afternoon in my mid 40s when my very lovely husband asked me if I’d like a cup of tea. I merely looked at him unclenched my jaw and screamed “will you just fuck off you annoying stupid bastard”.

It has been downhill ever since. My memory has gone, my joints have given up, I am so tired I sleep all the time and I cry constantly.

Oh and the rage. I was saying to a friend the other day that everyone is worried about it being the men causing civil unrest when really the government should be priming water cannon with large vats of HRT because if women of a certain age have to take much more shit we will rioting.
