What is the thing people sometimes shout during “Sweet Caroline”?

I’ve been speaking to some friends tonight and they don’t believe me about this.

It’s NOT “so good” repeated or the “bah bah bah” thing. I’m sure it’s something along the lines of “shut up you’re having a laugh” but only specific areas use it?

I remember knowing this not that long ago but menopause brain means I can’t remember the exact wording and many Google searches haven’t helped. Friends (and DH) think I’ve completely made this up. 🙈

Aaagghh I hate you!
I used to know this.

Whoops75 · 16/09/2026 23:11

You sure it’s that song with that response ?
I think you’re mixing up songs.
Now I shall lay awake all night thinking of this.

Apparently in Scotland they sometimes chant “I don’t believe it, you’re making it up”, but I can’t imagine where in the song it fits in!

SeeitSayitSortitScotrail · 16/09/2026 23:14

"Buckfast wine" if you're scottish and "i don't believe it, you're making it up" in my circles

" I don't believe you, you're making it up! "

This is it!

Thank you! And the others who have said this since too.

I’m actually in Scotland and no one where I am seems to know this. I feel when I first heard it it was maybe Yorkshire or something?

But anyway thanks to all who proved I wasn’t going insane over this LOL.

I just did a Google search and found this, someone posted they would sing I don't believe you yer making it up https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DHeLgbb66/

Thanks for this, I couldn’t fathom how those words would fit in! There’s a video in the comments of a guy singing it.

The answer was there in the last line of your OP. Maybe when you thought they were saying they didn't believe you they were actually trying to tell you the answer

Okay, I know it isn't the answer to the OPs question, but what song is it?

Living next door to Alice - Smokie

it was Roy Chubbie Brown that introduced the ‘who the f*ck is Alice’ line
