Best way to clean dog poo from trainer soles?

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 16/09/2026 08:18

Please tell me the best way to clean dog poo from the sole of my lovely Adidas Spezials...😢😫

I'm thinking about using some hot water and washing up liquid with a toothbrush to get into the grooves, then maybe dunking it after in water with disinfectant. Obviously I know I need to be careful using bleach etc on thd rubber.

Argh! I hate these things and my OCD type anxiety of germs is raising its ugly head 😒 🤣

Any advice welcome please!

Top Tip : Don't use your own toothbrush.

Ilovemyshed · 16/09/2026 08:20

Nail brush, washing liquid and hot water. Then dry on disposable kitchen paper.

bleach the sink after and throw the nail brush away.

Get everything you can off first by wiping on grass outside before you have to get your hands dirty. Then scrape what you can out with a tooth pick, and finally do the washing up liquid and old toothbrush. It will all come off just fine. No need to dunk in disinfectant, but if it will really make you feel better I would rub the soles with 70% ethanol at the end, not bleach.

A couple of generous soakings to loosen in it
try and wipe it in grass to get as much as you can off

I threw my trainers away when this happened. I just can’t deal with dog shit. Even with the waste / cost issue of throwing away shoes I had to.

I really want to keep my Spezials as I love them but I feel similar to you - the thought of cleaning it is making me feel awful!

You can get bottles with brushes on the end. So fill with water and washing up liquid, squeeze to release water as you scrub the shit off (in the garden/somewhere outside!).

Bleach the brush bit to clean.

I've got 2 dogs,so it's sometimes an occasional hazard. I assume people who don't pick up are likely to be lax about wormers and suchlike. I've always been in poo bags and disposable gloves with me, I will remove as much as possible immediately.I get my trainers or walking boots over the toilet, disposable gloves on, and a nail brush,or a little bottle brush (kept in the greenhouse for this purpose) Then outside to dry off. I don't use bleach or anything else. You will have walked in dog, cat, bird, fox, mice, rat possibly badger and waste, you can't prevent germs.

I’m starting to avoid our lovely local park due to dog poo… my toddler always seems to run in it, and I’m sick of cleaning buggy wheels.

Do you have an outside tap? Rub the worst off on the grass, use dog poo bags on your hands on disposable gloves, then wipe with baby wipe or cleaning wipe. Use nail brush or toothbrush and a toothpick to get in the tread. Use hot water from inside to clean, either clean over a drain or somewhere it can drain away. Rinse off under the tap or somewhere the water can easily drain. I tend to put my toddler’s trainers in the washing machine with Dettol laundry cleanser after cleaning, on a 10 minute cool wash.

Sick of lazy dog owners! I picked up after my dog when heavily pregnant and with a baby strapped in the sling and a toddler running around. There’s no excuse!

I recall from a 'Not the Nine O'clock News' tear-off desk calendar a quote-of-the-day being something like...

'Given unlimited resources should the world scientists work on a solution for solving the world food shortage or develop a device for getting dog shit from the corrugated soles of shoes.'

Nannyfannybanny · 16/09/2026 08:31

How are you going to get your hands dirty, I wouldn't expose myself to another dogs waste. Rub your trainers on the grass, well, unless you scoop that up,you are no better than the owner who didn't!

Don't do it in the sink 🤢
Don't use a nail brush you plan on using for you actual nails 🤢🤢

So gross.

Do it in/over bucket outside and use a scrubbing brush for outdoor jobs like this.

coldcalling · 16/09/2026 08:32

I would clean the sole with a brush under the outdoor tap.

This is what I do (it's more usually fox poo out here). Good stiff scrubbing brush and a squirt of washing up liquid and a hefty scrub. Leave to dry out in the sunshine and they're usually fine.

Soak first if the poo is really stuck in the treads

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 16/09/2026 09:20

Thank you all 😎

Job done now, grim but complete! I managed to use an old cat litter tray and washing up liquid, and scrubbed well on our lawn. Hopefully the stuff is well gone, not a job I want to repeat any time soon!🙈😂

This, but I would then put them in the washing machine on a cool, short wash. I have done this with my son's in the past and they have been fine. After a long hot shower and disinfecting the whole house, I would start a vendetta against every dog owner who doesn't pick up their dog's shit. A curse on their knicker elastic.

Washing machine or dishwasher on hottest setting.

personally if it’s dog 💩 I’d throw them out 🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢

I've thought the same but they're my £60 Adidas Spezials and I love them too much to throw away!🙈😂

Or use your own toothbrush and just bang it in the dishwasher with your loo brush when you’re done

I use this hose attachment and it’s brilliant. There is a powerful spray setting that perfectly gets rid of dog poo even in the grooves.

Get yourself a boot buddy. My son uses one for his football boots. Absolutely brilliant. You fill it with hot soapy water and just scrub the soles. No bleach and easy to use and no poo on your hands!! We have a soft bristled one for our dogs paws after a walk.
