Would you stay for a movie party for a 7yo?

DH and I can’t agree on this. I personally don’t think parents should be invited, but DH thinks some parents would think they’d have to stay with their DC.

It’s a private screening so it would cost more, they would only take up seats.

God no. 7yo parties are all drop and go!

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · 10/09/2026 12:32

Drop and RUN...

Raptors · 10/09/2026 12:34

Absolutely not. There is precisely zero reason for anyone to stay and supervise their child whilst watching a film.

No, drop and go!

Icecreamisthebest · 10/09/2026 12:41

No. For a 7 year old I’d only stay for a pool party

WearingBeautifulShoes · 10/09/2026 12:43

Generally no, although at 7 DD did used to get extremely scared at some (seemingly non-scary) films, so if it was something I thought she may be wobbly about it, I might....but would pay for my own seat if so.

Larsaleaping · 10/09/2026 12:44

Depends on the child, surely. I would stay with my 7yo because she is autistic and would need me there in that situation (socialising, dark room, loud noises, unfamiliar space). I wish I could drop and run!

AnnesPuffedSleeves · 10/09/2026 12:45

Nooooo. Drop and go!

whatsagoodusername · 10/09/2026 12:45

Definitely drop and run - they’ll all be sitting for a movie, no need for masses of adults.

TeenToTwenties · 10/09/2026 12:45

Possibly, as otherwise I'd have to schlep into town, kill time, and then come back, dependent on where the cinema was. So not to supervise.

Also of course dependent on the film.

I assume you mean they wouldn't cost more.

mondaytosunday · 10/09/2026 12:45

What and then the host (or you) buy tickets too? No. It’s drop and go!

IAmKerplunk · 10/09/2026 12:45

Drop and go as quickly as possible without being rude

As mentioned nothing to pay in this instance!

Also would depend if I trusted you to have enough adults for when one needs the loo mid film.

IAmKerplunk · 10/09/2026 12:46

Do you mean it wouldn’t cost more as it’s a private screening? Give parents the option?

Actually you said it would cost more…

Divebar2021 · 10/09/2026 12:47

No I would not and unless your child asks you I wouldn’t want to be there for the child’s sake. If it was a hassle with the travelling I would probably take a book and sit in a coffee shop.

FusionChefGeoff · 10/09/2026 12:48

No!!!

Exactly! We have 44 seats available and between friends and family we’ll use 14.

So we have 30 seats for guests. Which I originally hoped he could simply invite his whole class, but my DH is hesitant because some parents might want to stay.

Yes, that was a typo, just noticed!

OK with your update just invite the whole class, and parents can't stay.

Hotmess101 · 10/09/2026 12:50

I stayed when DD7 went to an 8th birthday cinema party. She was a young seven in some ways and I didn’t really know the mum. I didn’t like the thought of her wandering round the foyer looking for the loo alone more than anything else.

UniquePinkSwan · 10/09/2026 12:50

Absolutely not and it would be very weird if a parent stayed

Tell parents if they feel they need to stay for any reason it’s absolutely fine but you need to know for numbers. Or tell them there are limited spaces for parents?

So that’s our current plan, but then we’d have to do it in “waves” so we don’t invite someone whose parent wants to stay.

although I like the idea of “limited spaces for parents”.
