Would you stay for a movie party for a 7yo?

DH and I can’t agree on this. I personally don’t think parents should be invited, but DH thinks some parents would think they’d have to stay with their DC.

It’s a private screening so it would cost more, they would only take up seats.

I think for a whole class of all come then yes I think some parents should stay, otherwise there’s going to be a huge amount of kids that need supervising, taking to the toilet, sorting any issues. If it’s a smaller number then definitely drop and go at that age.

There would be at least 4 adults plus 4 teenagers - I don’t know if that would be enough.

Are you inviting via text or paper invitations?

I would word it something like ‘we understand some parents will feel they need to stay so as there are only 14 extra seats please let me know if you intend on staying. Please rest assured there will be enough adults supervising for things like toilet trips’ I would probably add ‘if anyone wants to take my place so I can sit in a dark room with a large glass of wine then please say’ - but I think I am funnier than I actually am 🤣

That would be plenty of people to supervise anyone who needed to nip to the loo. You really don't need tons of extra adults there and I think you risk some parents assuming you will want them to stay if they arrive and see you have other parents there.

That’s plenty - most parents, unless any issues, will relish a couple of hours not watching a film they don’t want to watch!

Paper! We have a Canva design.

we though of adding this note:

“Parents are very welcome to stay, but equally, you’re more than welcome to drop off and collect at the end, whatever works best for you!”

but then we’d have to send the invites in waves, unless we say there are limited spaces for parents and first come, first served.

Nah, that sounds like you're expecting the parents to stay, and I would feel obliged to even if I didn't want to. I'd go with something more along the lines of 'This is a drop and go party, but if any parents would prefer to stay with their child let me know as we only have a few spare seats'

PurpleThistle7 · 10/09/2026 13:11

Yeah I think that phrase sounds like you expect me to stay.

id go with something more like ‘we have plenty of adults to supervise but if you or your child would prefer, I have a few extra seats for parents’ but probably in a nicer way as I’m terrible at this sort of thing and spend ages stressing over it

My son would have wanted me gone but my daughter did tend to fall apart about halfway through a movie at that age (autistic) so I’d be hovering in the lobby regardless.

I this is perfectly worded. Send all invites out at the same time.

No.
As long as you've got enough adults of both genders to supervise and take to the toilet.
