Is anyone in the UK getting lots of insect bites at the moment?

Just that really. I have always been very prone to bites when abroad but seem to be getting quite a few just this week. I wonder whether it’s something about the suddenly cooling weather?

Funnily enough, I have. Insects usually avoid me.

mixandmatch · 09/09/2026 21:56

They never avoid me but I’m not usually this bad in the UK. So I wondered if it was something to do with sudden temp change and wet weather

Yes I have a few on my legs, and I live in the north.

Norwaygirl · 09/09/2026 22:49

I don't usually get bitten but I have a corker on my leg at the moment. It itches like crazy.

BertieBotts · 09/09/2026 22:50

I'm not even in the UK and we have had none all summer, and then suddenly loads.

I think what it is is it was too hot for mosquitoes and then a few extra-hungry ones have emerged. They are hard to catch, too, I managed to find a couple but they were tiny, silent, and almost invisible. We normally get big, loud ones.

Rejoinedforthis · 09/09/2026 22:51

Yes!!! I’m never bitten, even abroad I don’t really get bitten even with no insect repellent but I swear I’ve had more bites recently than I’ve ever had in one go in my life (and I’m 41…)

LasVegass · 09/09/2026 22:53

Yes! Past 2-3 weeks. No one else in the family, so it can’t be bed bugs or fleas.

mixandmatch · 09/09/2026 22:55

Yep we have a cat but I can’t see any evidence of fleas on the cat or anywhere else. Same with bed bugs - have checked and no evidence at all, so I do think it’s something getting in

They look a bit small for mozzie bites but sizes do differ I know

Yes I’ve had three in the last couple of days. Really itchy and really tiny! I was thinking it was odd!

Creepybookworm · 09/09/2026 23:18

Yes, I have been bitten numerous times on my face! All lumpy.

Same. Two bites. Extremely strange as this is a first. Ever. Came out of nowhere and did not feel the bites. I’m a bit freaked out by it.

Glad it’s not just me. Feels like weather change is likely to have something to do with it but maybe it’s a coincidence…

Yes I have! Seems unusual to get bitten this time of year.

I have been bitten lots over my chest area. Very unusual for me to be bitten

mixandmatch · 10/09/2026 07:06

RowsofFlowers - yours look more like mozzie bites, mine are a bit smaller. Though could be that I just haven’t reacted to them as I sometimes do!

I do react to insect bites to be fair. Think I have an allergy!

wegogovy · 10/09/2026 08:56

Same! And it’s only me here whose been bitten

newrubylane · 10/09/2026 09:18

Yes me, DH and DD have all had bites in the last week or too. I rarely get bitten usually so very noticeable for me.

Ifailed · 10/09/2026 09:18

Yes I have and I also got bitten by a spider! (didn't see it when I was cutting some rosemary)

MJANEBR · 11/09/2026 11:34

Yes! Raised itchy bumps with a tiny dot in the middle. I have seen a mosquito flying around my bedroom at night and I am covering up but they still manage to get me on my wrist or hands. They even got me on my face! It must be this years weather because it has only happened to me abroad before.

StrugglingAlong75 · 11/09/2026 12:57

For the last month or two, yes.

Lougle · 11/09/2026 12:58

Yes, me too.

MouldyCandy · 11/09/2026 17:13

Mine have been caused by Berry Bugs / Harvest Mites - especially if I've been gardening. Very itchy.

Pippatpip · 11/09/2026 17:41

Yes. Way more than normal
