Sorry I have been MIA - life!

But I am here and would love us all to support eachother through the year

DD7 - autistic and pre verbal - starting new autism unit at new school!

Year to go's were OK - still couldn't do English but got a 6 in Psychology and 4s in maths (which he'd had a wobble with) and history (which he'd not been able to write anything in previous exam), so took those last two off worry list

Hello! Would you mind if I join? DS 5 suspected ADHD. He had an OK day at school today I think (year 1) but mentioned that "they took me for a walk because they noticed I was worried", he couldn't give more info about the situation. I've just been booked onto a 6 week CBT course starting next month by the council's first response child mental health team, to hopefully learn some techniques to help support him with anxiety.

I've got
Ds20 - officially diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, self diagnosed with adhd. Year 2 at university
Ds18 - autism and selective mutism. About to start year 1 at university
Ds15 - been on the waiting list for an autism and adhd assessment for 3.5 years. Year 11 in mainstream
Ds13 - moderate learning disabilities, deaf, various health problems. Year 9 in mainstream with an ehcp
Ds12 - autism, sleeping problems. Year 8 in mainstream with an ehcp

I'm new here, but hope it's ok to join. DS7, non verbal autistic & under investigation for ADHD.

Also have DS 15 months, and hoping he develops typically & no major regression like DS1 - feel very anxious about it all the time.

I’d like to join. DS9 ADHD, Autism and FASD. First day back into a regular comp went ok. EHCP finally agreed last week and now waiting for the draft after a year of delay to get to this point…

DS went back to school yesterday - a bit unsettled, but was really happy to go today.

We've had some horrendous meltdowns this year, so much self injury it's heartbreaking. I feel on constant high alert. He started a v small dose of sertraline early July, but I don't think it's made any difference. It's hard not to lose hope sometimes

Dd isnt eating well. I think its because she is sick of being at home with me and wants to go to school.

I hope that's what it is 🥺

Welcome @Chockadoo - how did he find school today? This course sounds really good. Does his school have a communication app like ClassDojo, where you can ask about this when it comes up?

@Dazedandconfused28 👋 - I can imagine how anxious you must feel, watching for signs of regression. You want to be able to just enjoy your baby dont you! - is ds in mainstream? Hows he coping with back to school?

Thats amazing - does he know what he wants to do after gcses yet, or is he focused just on getting past them first - its so stressful for them

hi I’ve got an 11 year old autistic DS. We are going through it at the minute as he’s started secondary school (mainstream) but we are pushing for a Sen school with LA.

Hello all. My daughter has just started secondary at her ASD unit in mainstream so far all is good.

She's been asked to sit alone at the back of the class at the moment which I think the ASD unit has suggested. however I'm not very happy, but it's only two days in so see what happens next week. I might have to ask school to let her sith with other people because when the teachers say "discuss it with your partner" dd says the only person she's got to talk to is her bag.

in Good News my 18 year old is just finishes a level in his special needs school and got A, B and E so he didn't get his first universitie choice

thihe's taking a year off to get some experience and to sit some new A Levels hopefully university next year so keep going everyone absolutely amazed by how he's achieved

Yes, he's very determined to do Animal Management L3 BTech - luckily grades for that are quite low (five 4s) so he should be able to make it in, even if he has to retake English. I think the hope is that he can take the science-led route in the second year and that might open up further qualifications in bio-science, veterinary or zoology type areas

Today

Dd is seeming better. Shes been refusing food and quite miserable. Today shes chatting to herself and has eaten a pot noodle, some crisps and nibbled on some nuggets - ive got some chicken thighs on for her now, fingers crossed she will eat and then sleep

We are out of routine so badly. I will have to set the alarm early tomorrow, and then not sleep on Sunday night so she doesnt miss school!

How are we all - how are kids recovering after back to school?

Amazing news re your 18yo! A gap year is a great idea and those results are really good - does he know what he wants to do?

Why is your daughter at the back of the class on her own?! If its an asd unit, its already a small class bless her

@likeitshard welcome - was he in a mainstream primary? Hows he coped with the first days? Its so stressful for them without asd on top! Keep pushing, I talked to a mum irl yesterday who said her friend had been through 2 tribunals before getting a place! Madness 😠

@Echobelly i'm trying to get dd into horses as theyre lovely animals and are supposed to be really sensitive - your ds is going into the right field!

Can I join? I have DS 11 who is just starting his secondary journey. 2 days in and they've already said 'we can't meet his needs please keep him at home' 😢

We are pushing for an RP place for him but he is currently in mainstream.
