Its the last day of summer today. Are you glad, sad or indifferent?
I love all the seasons so I'm quite happy.

Sad. 😢

Traceyatnumber32isaloudgobshite · 31/08/2026 22:17

Can't wait or the next 9 months of grey wet rainy windy dull dark days.

No need to bother with hair or nice clothes because its cold wet and windy and pointless making any effort.
Watching the gas meter tick over and having to choose if its worth being cold or skint.

Whats not to love?

DanceMumTaxi · 31/08/2026 22:18

Very jealous of the retiring teachers. I’ve done 20 years, think I’ll probably have another 20 to go 😭 Enjoy the 1st of September.

mumumental · 31/08/2026 22:20

It’s still summer to my mind. 21st September.

I’m not retiring, I’m only 50. Just couldn’t do it any more. I just left and got a different job.

PhotoDad · 31/08/2026 22:27

Whereas I am retiring! Early, but worth it (I think).

Sshhhitsstillsummer · 31/08/2026 22:41

Sad...but it's not over yet! Weeks to go

Ijwwm · 01/09/2026 00:40

Gutted. Hoping we’ll get a spell of pleasant days for a while in the next month or so.

I will grit my teeth and get through it, but I’m definitely a spring and summer person. Blue sky, longer evenings, getting stuff done outside. What I hate is the often constant blanket of grey overhead. If we had bright, crisp, cold days through A/W then I’d probably feel better. But the mostly grey blanket makes me struggle.

I know a lot of people on here have hated this summer. And I get it, given the descriptions of how their homes weren’t helping etc. But, for me, it’s the thought that we’re heading into the next 7 months or so of grey, wet/damp, cold, windy, long nights that I hate.

FairViewRosie25 · 01/09/2026 00:43

Absulely not autumn yet

JillyComeLately · 01/09/2026 00:50

Summer ends for me when it gets colder with little chance of higher temps, usually mid to late September.
It makes me sad...I hate winters.

Brendayouknowthatyouremuchtoolazy · 01/09/2026 00:57

From a "last of the summer holiday" perspective, gutted. I'm a teacher and as I've been in education for 50 years have had the Sunday night terrors every week since the mid 70s. The end of the summer holiday is particularly anxiety forming. I'm back on Wednesday, I feel sick. I just need the kids in next Monday - parents aside, all is well with with world when my (600+) babies are back safely.

Mistyglade · 01/09/2026 01:02

Sad. It’s a downward slope until Spring for me. scent of Autumn leaves is being scared to be back to school, only fleetingly now at 49.

Not to derail the thread, but here in Australia the seasons are punctual Grin, so the first day of spring here today, September 1st. I agree that 21st more accurately reflects the reality of the changing seasons.
Having said that it's a 22 degree day and very windy, so good drying weather.

PleaseDontAsk · 01/09/2026 01:17

Summer is until 21st Sept. I'll tell you how i feel about it when We reach that date.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 01/09/2026 01:20

I thought summer officially ends when the clocks go back

Hello from NZ! We've had some gorgeous spring like days already, and yes great drying weather. We had a frosty morning, but they are getting less. Roll on summer. 🌞

NewGirlInTown · 01/09/2026 01:44

Thank fuck it’s over.
its been hellish, too hot to enjoy.

As a teacher of 28 years who has finally escaped the profession, this is the happiest I have ever felt on August 31st!

I understand the feeling. I’m also retired from teaching. 😊

Glad. Bye bye (hopefully) to the insufferably hot and sticky days.

NewBookTime · 01/09/2026 03:37

Mostly glad. I love Autumn and we will be decorating the house tomorrow. 🍂

A little bit sad as my kids are back at college and uni soon. I love having everyone home for summer.

AquamarinePearlGold · 01/09/2026 07:11

Sad 😔

frozendaisy · 01/09/2026 07:32

It’s easier now we know youngster still fits into school trousers!

We have x2 exam years coming up we will be drowning in revision guides and the outside season will be utterly irrelevant.

But had an amazing summer, teens have been on top form, noise, friends, ice cubes, music, sunshine, art, reading.

Time to get back to reality!

friedaklein · 01/09/2026 11:22

Bye Felicia! I hated this summer. It was horrible in London. Worst summer of my life.

PuppyMonkey · 01/09/2026 11:41

I hate it when people are all “ooh, summer doesn’t end till September 21.” The same lot who say Christmas doesn’t end till January 6, it’s Mothering Sunday not Mothers’ Day, and cast not a clout till May is out. Grin

For the rest of us normal people, spring is March, April, May. Summer is June, July, August. Autumn is September, October , November. Winter is December, January, February.

And autumn is the best.
