Housing associations- How long can I be “in void”

I just posted but seem to have lost my post?
I was suppose to be moving in next month, but I have been told the status of the property is “in void” how long can I expect to wait? Did you wait a long time?

On the assumption that “in void” means it’s empty, waiting for a new tenant, (you?) how long is a piece of string?

There are possibly issues with it; deep cleaning, repairs etc so the HA need the manpower available & funds to get around to what needs to be done.

If you have a liaison person’s number, phone them regularly for updates, don’t be rude but “he that shouts loudest, quite often gets” but if my assumption is correct, you might be waiting a long time.

I have no experience but judging by what I read on MN, Housing Associations do not have a good proactive reputation.

I did call them but I just don’t want to add work load as I know they’re busy people and while I do want a move in date, I don’t want to be too pushy.

As pp says - when the property is "void" it has no tenant i.e nobody paying rent on it. It is in the HA's interest to get it let as soon as possible. Sure, there may be repairs that they are obliged to do as landlords, but they definitely don't want it sat there generating no income for weeks on end.

As PP’s have said, void is the time between tenancies. It depends on what works are needed, contractor availability etc. And sometimes it can be longer if the previous tenant has caused damage or left belongings there.
They will want you in as soon as possible to reduce the amount of income they lose.
They won’t mind you checking with them regularly either, so you can sign up and move in as soon as it’s ready.

Try calling every Friday because if there’s progress, contractors will be wrapping up their week & reporting back to the office.

Or Monday afternoons might be good in case the contractors are late reporting.

Everyone in every office everywhere is “busy” but you are entitled to kindly & politely ask for updates.

OP has said on her other (almost identical) thread in Chat that there is a "lot of work needed". Might have been helpful to have included that here.

I wonder how often is too often.
The lady is so lovely who I spoke to and I don’t want to start on a bad foot of being a pest. I changed twice, two weeks a part. Is that too much? Should I be chasing more?

Sorry, you’re right! I lost that thread I cannot find it at all! But yes they did say “quite a bit of work” was needed. But after reading in to that, apparently it could mean gas checks, etc. I can’t see that being a big job unless there is an issue though. Originally it was said it needed a new bathroom and that it wouldn’t we too long and around September (beginning) that it wouldn’t be ready, next update was it needed more work. I have no idea where it is all up to
