Just uninstalled YouTube from our TV

Not before time. Have a 3 yo DD and wondering what you’d recommend for her to watch. I know Bluey is popular but I think it’s a bit old for her at the moment, as are Alphablocks etc (she was only 3 earlier this month.)

She used to like Paddington but that’s gone from Netflix. Any suggestions gratefully received!

She’d probably like a lot of things on CBeebies. No adverts either!

I’ve tried to encourage CBeebies but honestly I’m struggling! The stuff I like (JoJo and Gran Gran and Maddie’s Do You Know) is a bit old for her but then she’s lost interest in the ‘baby’ stuff like Night Garden and so on!

My eldest daughter loved Bluey from 2.5yo. It’s still one of the only shows she’ll properly laugh out loud at and she’s 7.

My youngest daughter only just turned 3 and she’s not really bothered about TV but she’s just getting into Bluey and we also like Shaun the Sheep. The Julia Donaldson adaptations are always good too.

Peter Rabbit, Ben&Holly, Princess Sofia, and Gabby are the programmes of choice with my 4 year old.

She went through a phase where it was all about Gabby … must try to reintroduce. She just isn’t into Bluey, I’m afraid! Will try Peter rabbit and Ben and holly is a good shout, forgot about that!

There are lots of shows on CBeebies for that age. Hey Duggee, Bing, Peppa Pig, Sarah and Duck, Ben & Holly are definitely aimed at younger than Bluey but older than In The Night Garden.

Why did you uninstall YouTube?

@teevees how did you uninstall? Am demented with 9yo on it. Had set up child you tube but he was circumnavigating it by signing in as a guest!

If you only offer cbeebies, and she isn't interested, that's positive. It's not necessary to watch any and not watching releases time for other things.

If she's used to more frenetic TV it might take time to adjust.

I sometimes listen to podcasts on YouTube, so I didn't want to uninstall it completely; we've set up a pin code, which works well! Our children are still at primary school, though, so I realise that might not work as they get older.

As for your actual question - as others have said, iPlayer is your friend. Avoid Amazon Prime - they have a lot of YouTube-style content in their kids' section.

Make her an account on bbc iplayer. There is So much lovely stuff on there. Also I don’t think she’s too young for Bluey. Everyone loves Bluey

I am missing a trick with Sarah and duck, I know it’s got a bit of a following but I can’t work out for the life of me why - and neither can DD it would seem!

@concertinacornflake i know but if I’ve got something good quality I can offer it stops her wanting things that aren’t great quality, IYSWIM.

I went into settings on the TV and uninstalled it. It’s a shame as she liked a fairly benign programme on it but the algorithms threw up a load of gibberish she got obsessed with.

Some of the older cbeebies stuff I think would be suitable Loads and I means LOADS of stuff is on Internet Archive.

I have absolutely no clue from anything you have said so far, WHY you have uninstalled YouTube.

The algorithms were throwing up absolute gibberish. Does it matter why, though, genuinely?

Waffle? I'm surprised you think JoJo is too old, it's about a pre-schooler. Woolly and Tig is also nice.

As others have said iplayer is good and if she then chooses not to watch thats not a bad thing either. The julia Donaldson adaptations are good, if shes not watched before then start with snail and the whale, andy has quite a lot of programmes which my eldest liked, there's also let's go for a walk with hamza, numberblocks, mine didn't like alphablocks but did like number blocks.

I know but I don’t think she follows it all that well. Older DC started enjoying it around 4 IIRC.

She's going to struggle with anything like Bluey/Sarah and Duck/etc if she's used to YouTube. YouTube edits are designed to be addictive, overstimulating, and to hold attention. Good programming for 3-year-olds is exactly the opposite; slower, less refreshes, less changes. It'll be a change for her. She's going to have a dopamine comedown from no more YouTube, and I'd probably use that to go fairly cold turkey for a week or so, and then introduce slower programmes again. She'll have a different opinion of them when her brain isn't comparing them to YouTube.

Most of those are suitable but avoid the Pingu's nightmare one, and the one with the sea lion.

If in Netflix could try Puffin Rock, Trash Truck, Steve and Maggie. If you have amazon prime maybe something like Kipper, Curious George or TumbleLeaf. If you have NOW TV/ Sky you can watch Paddington in Nik Jr.

That said, if there are things she likes on YouTube and you’re not looking to ban screen time deleting it seems a bit extreme. You could just change the settings so it doesn’t play the next episode automatically and supervise enough it doesn’t matter what the algorithm throws up as you can just refuse to put it on for her.

Go Jetters is great, as are Octonauts
