London Sunday...what can we do now forecast rain ☔️

Just me and DH no kids...Sunday had planned picnic and walk round St James Park but forecast rain most of day!
Any ideas on what we can do?

I would try and get tickets to a show.

Not many on Sundays plus doing that Sat

Anyone any suggestions?

Loads of stuff! London is set up for the rain. What do you like doing? Galleries? shopping? Crazy golf? Eating posh lunches? Climbing up towers? Sitting about in coffee shops with nice views?

Any of the museums, natural history museum, science, v&a, or the art gallaries, eg Tate modern, National Portrait or whoever one at Trafalgar … so many indoor things to do in London that are practically free!

My goodness get a coat on and get a brolly problem solved. It’s the UK it rains normally.!

What have you researched so far? There's loads to do!

For future ref. most shows do have Sunday showings, esp matinées. It's Mondays they're closed.

You think they should follow their original plan and have a picnic in the rain?? What fun. I can only assume you are part of the “there is no bad weather just bad clothing” brigade. Which is particularly silly in this situation where there are lots of great things to do, many of them free, during a rainy day in London.

OP, there is loads to do in London in the rain. Art galleries, museums, shops, shows, bars where you can play table tennis or mini golf or shuffleboard. The possibilities are endless so you may want to say a little more about what you and DH enjoy and if you have a budget in mind so you can get more tailored suggestions.

I would go to the National Portrait Gallery then have lunch at Rules if there is a space or Simpsons in the Strand. If not, the cafe in the crypt at St Martins. I’d need a lie down then so maybe a boat trip

The met office is forecasting rain on Saturday but not Sunday. I would have a look at Time Out for events this weekend. If you tell us what you enjoy, it will be easier to make suggestions eg would you rather go to an art exhibition, a quirky museum, an historic house, a giant ball pit, an indoor fun fair, a vintage market…

It’s London! There are a million things to do.

My DH and I were in London without the kids recently. We visited two museums, did some shopping, went to the theatre, had some lovely meals out.

What are your interests? Art, shopping, history, something active, shows, other museum stuff etc? There are a thousand things to do in the rain in London so would help narrow it down

You have a million and one things to do! London is easy in the rain, come here to North Wales for a rainy BH weekend and then you'll see what limited options look like...

I'd do musuems and food halls as that's what I enjoy. Depends what you like doesn't it

Maritime museum in Greenwich, the park, cutty sark, fabulous choice of restaurants/pubs/cafe the antique markets so a fair bit that would keep you occupied & a ride along the Thames is always lovely no matter what the weather.

What interests do you have, what kind of food do you like. The Notting,Hill carnival is on so avoid west London unless you want to go to it. ,where are you staying, do you want to stay around near the hotel or venture out.

Even if it doesn't rain, a picnic in St James' Park would not be a lot of fun at the moment - have you seen it recently? it currently looks like a Nevada dustbowl with some heat stressed trees and a few grumpy pelicans.

there is literally not a better place to be when it's raining than London, there are so many options.

You are not being very helpful OP - at least give people an idea of what you like to do. It's no use people recommending doing an urban decay tour of underground abandoned tube stations if your tastes lie more towards shopping in Harrods!

Why can't you Google or perhaps ask ChatGPT or similar for a itinerary? Without knowing where you are staying and what kinds of things you like or have already planned, it's difficult to answer.

Also is the picnic in St James' Park an activity or cheap way to eat?

That will inform what is suggested as a replacement.

But generally London is really set up for the rain - loads of indoor activities and even if it does rain it will be warm and no mud etc.. so just take an umbrella.

"It will be raining in London so there is nothing to do" - said no one ever.
