How can we be expected to function in this inhumane world? I want out (of the system... not life)

cambiodenombre123 · 27/08/2026 11:18

For context: I'm 49, 2 wonderful DC (17 & 15), single mum, amicable with ex who is a good dad, wonderful boyfriend, own home with mortgage, fulfilling job if a little stressful at times, ageing parents, amazing friends, good social life and time/money to pursue my hobbies. Life is good.

But I'm SO mentally fatigued. Feel like the scales have fallen from my eyes in the past year and am now wholly convinced of what some would call conspiracy theories. Am thinking more about the horrific news of late... Israeli genocide and the lies and gaslighting from governments. How and WHY is this being allowed to happen?! The Epstein files why aren't people pushing for a revolution? How can we be so collectively desensitised to the abhorrent/inhuman revelations? My heart breaks for those poor poor children. Prices constantly going up and scarcity of fuel and food (that I think those in power are engineering as it goes). Climate change and the unending desecration of our beautiful planet. Tecnology ruining brains and being used to influence elections across the world and needing to be online for f**king everything. The media controlled by the elites and controlling our view of the world and ergo our minds. CBDC coming in against peiple's will and stealing financial privacy and freedoms.

It's obvious now that the world is run by 'elites' and tech bros who evidently abuse and sacrifice children. Makes me sick to my stomach. Feel like the world is f**ked.

Sorry for the swears.

I worry so much for my children. I live in a big city but once my DC are established with their own lives I'm outta here, will move somewhere with land, my own water source and go as off-grid as possible and have space for them to live with me if they ever want.

Reading this back, a few years ago I would've thought someone who believed such things was mad and needing psychiatric help. But the world has hard evidence on much of this now! I do have anxiety and am on meds and have it in hand now. I function fine - well even - live a really happy, active life full of love. But it's just tainted by the horrors... and I'm just screaming into the void.

Do I sound batshit crazy to you? Can you empathise at all? I'm scared to say this to friends/family as they'll just tell me I think too much. Maybe I need to stop watching the bloody news. Very aware that perimenopause will be playing a role too.

I would seriously suggest you stay away from the 24 hour news cycle.

if you like to stay up to date, consume news in more sober, curated ways: The Week on subscription, on paper perhaps? Nothing seems so bad once a week has passed. And look.for the helpers - the people who tried and are trying to help/rescue/fix/innovate.

It's not good for humans to receive an endless onslaught of bad news.

Have a look at Paul Kingsnorth’s writings OP. You will find him so aligned to your way of thinking. His latest book is called Against the Machine, and although it’s a bit depressing inasmuch as it confirms that’s what you feel is happening is happening (although maybe not the baby eating), seeing it spelled out, and realising that so many people think the same, is quite reassuring. He also believes that nature is a major remedy for the madness.

His substack gives an idea of what he is about

Read Hans Rosling Factual. We are currently living in a period of history which will be known as the Great Peace. We are the longest lived humans that have ever been, breathing the cleanest air . Child mortality is the lowest its every been, ever! Crime is down by 80% GLOBALLY since the 1990s. Children have literally never been safer . Turn off your smart phone and read his book for a FACT based insight into the times we are really living in then go outside and smell the roses

Believe it or not, life has been worse than this.. much much much worse for millions of people!!
Some stories of the 20th century that may make you realise times are not so bad now:

For example - my retired colleague’s Mum was a refugee from Croatia in the old Yugoslavia just after ww2. She left there to marry a British soldier. So the most awful thing was when the German soldiers came to her street.. everyone (men, women & children) had to line up on both sides of the street. Then the Germans chose to shoot everyone on the opposite side of the street to where she stood! Just like that. Multiple atrocities against millions of people took place in just that one country in ww2, let alone in much of the rest of the world.

Also. My Grandad worked in a rubber factory in Manchester in 1932.. no safeguards on the machines back then so EVERY DAY workers were being injured, the last straw for my Grandad was when the worker next to him got his hands mangled & cut off up to the wrists. If that worker survived any infection in his injuries (no antibiotics then) he’d have ended up in the Workhouse (no PIP & ESA then either).
So Grandad walked out in disgust & became street homeless at 18; but at that time politics in the UK were even more extreme than now. So as he was left wing he was paid by the Communists to help break up the meetings of the Fascist Blackshirts led by Moseley (who was an ally of Hitler). Back then the police were usually on the Fascists’ side; & the fights were brutal, & very violent, fuelled by bitter hatred.

Oh yes & my Grandad had come from the Salford slums.. 13 kids to one tiny back to back home; a dad who drank heavily & beat his wife - in fact almost every husband locally was paid on a Friday if they were in work, then got drunk that night & beat their wife while the kids waited out in the street listening to all the wives screaming & crying. Police never ever got involved because it was not a crime then, it was accepted.
If they needed the loo, each street had a small block of outside toilets in the street; no bathrooms.

I could go on & on but really, life for us now is actually so good in comparison to our parents & ancestors.. yes there are definitely issues & problems, there are wars but that is sadly human nature.
So I never watch the news & I definitely never go down conspiracy rabbit holes.. that way madness lies. Try to look at funny animal videos online instead for a while!! It really helps!

Im with you! Anyone who doesn’t believe you should research Adrenechrome….. it’s sickening and yes it’s the elites, Hollywood - if you know their name, it’s them. Everyone in power has sold their soul basically.

It’s shocking when you first realised how wide spread and awfully corrupt the world we’re living in is - BUT if has been for thousands of years and this is the time that’s been prophesied about - the world is in turmoil, everything is being exposed, things will crumble and a new earth will be born….. 🙏🏽

I mean this is the stuff of conspiracy theories and the OP really doesn’t need to be reading anymore of this shit,

The scary thing is that people actually believe such trash.

Stop watching the news 🤷‍♀️

Indianajet · 28/08/2026 09:28

I don't watch much news, ignore all the conspiracy theories and all the doom sayers.
I get out in the fresh air, laugh with friends, do my best to be a good person and enjoy life while I am here.
Life has always been hard, there are always wars, there have always been bad people. But there have always been good people too and kindness and hope.

It's QAnon nonsense, and anyone who believes it needs to seek serious help. Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey are not eating children, ffs.

The Satanic Panic was a moral panic in the 1980s and 1990s marked by unproven claims that secret cults worshiped the devil and abused children.

@cambiodenombre123

i think humans have always been like this. Pretty much every human society that has developed, especially since we stopped roaming the plains and settled down to farm. Humans are great at cooperating - but we are also driven to defend what is ours, and we’ll do pretty much anything to do that. Once societies get bigger, and less equal, we need a way to make decisions - and that means choosing an elite to lead us. And unfortunately psychopaths are very good at getting into leadership positions.

OP you are allowed to enjoy the life that you are fortunate enough to have. Your misery will not alleviate the distress of those who are less fortunate than you are. Do what you can - getting actively involved in something (picking litter, campaigning, volunteering) is an effective way to feel like you are making a difference - and who knows, it might even be true?

38thparallel · 28/08/2026 18:21

The Epstein files why aren't people pushing for a revolution.

Op, In which country should this revolution take place? Epstein is dead and Ghislaine Maxwell is in jail so who do you want overthrown?
However, there’s nothing stopping you from organising a revolution, if you think that will help.

Did you mention a word similar to crapto currency? Because that will be hidden automatically.

redboxer321 · 28/08/2026 19:48

I re-watched Mr Bates.... on the post office scandal the other day. That was enough for me. They used to say that was cock up rather than conspiracy too.

ShitHoleDweller · 28/08/2026 19:49

afraid to say that demonic rituals and eating children (including newborns) are all in the Epstein files compete with names (searchable database of emails, photos etc.). It sounds unbelievable because it is but it's there in black and white. I'll not post the link as I wouldn't encourage anyone to read the files unless they're really braced for it.

Ive just checked this and it really doesn’t seem to be true. There was a bloke who alleged it but had no evidence to back it up.

Pumpkindoodles · 28/08/2026 19:54

I think you need to get off social media and step away from the news. Use that time to either work on yourself, or your community, or raise funds for things like disaster relief. You can’t control what’s happening in Isreal, or Nepal or anywhere else in the world. Worrying won’t change that and it doesn’t help anyone. You can try to do some good and put good back into the world and that’s it.

Out of interest can you tell me a time in human history when there were no wars and no natural disasters happening across any part of the world? I don’t think there’s been one. People just didn’t have 24/7 rolling news telling them every awful thing happening on every corner of the planet.

Justbrieme · 28/08/2026 19:57

@cambiodenombre123 I genuinely wonder if it is just your drop in hormones speaking. The world is as it has always been, an absolute barbaric battle for survival.

I’m exactly the same age as you and many of our circumstances line up but 10 years ago I had a catastrophic personal event happen in my life, a lot of my hard won defense mechanisms were broken down by it and my beliefs came completely a cropper.

It was Earth shattering, but 10 years on I’ve had a chance to process this change and the new reality it brought and I’m the happiest I’ve been in my life.

One of my key realisations was that I realised that people lived through the 2nd World War, the First World War, disease, famine, pograms, truly horrific personal histories, they did so with no nihilistic predictions for the future like we have today.

There is no choice about what disasters will befall you but life does throw some everyone’s way, every generation has their own version of it.

It is really a question of focussing on what is good in your life and getting into a habit of doing so.

I am absolutely shocked that I’m sailing through perimenopause because so many of my friends are saying a lot of what you are saying and they have found it an incredibly anxious experience but I genuinely think it is because I had this crash 10 years ago and I’ve had 10 years to integrate it and learn some really good coping strategies.

TheSunBeatsDown · 28/08/2026 20:06

I think it comes down to this.

What is all this worrying, catastrophising, and revealing of the truth doing to you personally? And your family?

It's making you ill, them worried about you and it isn't changing a thing about those in power or making them less evil.

Unless you are going to harness that stress and rise up, and very few of us do, then it's simply doing you and your family harm by staying in this state of stress all the time.

There have always been catastrophes, and evil people, and horrors and yet people lived, loved, grieved, enjoyed life. In fact, I think they enjoyed life more without smartphones. I lived on a council estate growing up and people went out on Friday and Saturday night and had fun, I went out and had fun, we didn't live in a state of constant anxiety about life, that has come later and isn't helping anyone.

If I could uninvent smartphones, I would. No-one is smarter, no-one is happier. I delete FB, Insta every now and again to enjoy the peace. It's a choice to listen and engage OP and you can exercise that choice.

cambiodenombre123 · 30/08/2026 01:51

Thanks for the kind replies. I'm sure my perception has become disjointed and I do need to make some changes. Though there were "conspiracy theories" of an elite paedophile ring for years which were laughed at so I'm now of the opinion that they're capable of anything.

OP posts:
Oneatatimegently · 30/08/2026 05:42

I feel the same OP. I don't watch the news anymore but my husband does so it's hard to escape. I feel absolutely desolate about everything and feel reconciled to the fact that we as a species have completely fucked up. It's hard to feel positive about anything anymore.
