How much to give a teenager for overnight dog sitting?

A 16-year-old friend of DD's is coming to dog sit while we are away for the night this weekend - she's bringing another friend (who we know). She loves the dog and is very happy to do it but I said I'd give her some holiday money. I'll leave food in the fridge and whatnot. I've no idea how much to give her. Any ideas?

It costs £40 per night for a professional, registered and insured sitter by me (some even cheaper), so I’m surprised by these comments. It sounds like a lovely evening for the girls with an empty house for a sleepover and a dog to play with, I would and have done this for free at that age (not saying you shouldn’t pay them). I’d have offered £25 and a takeaway

For an overnight stay - presumably at least 12 hours? Plus by default keeping an eye on the house!

Cross posted. I pay £40 a night for a professional as I’ve used her for years and my dog knows her, but professional home boarding starts at £30. Why you’d pay a teenager and her mate £50 for a sleepover I don’t know

There’s no point being stingy really as they’re doing OP a favour and there are 2 of them.

Next time though pay less for just the main girl to sit and pay £20-£30 saying the £40/£50 was due to there being 2 of them but you can’t keep unnecessarily paying more

You know it’s a dog and not a child? And it’s not an hourly wage job where they’re actually doing any work? They’re spending the night. So watching the telly, going to sleep, at most maybe giving the dog its tea or breakfast depending on what time it’s fed. £20 is plenty and I think most teenagers would jump at the chance

I would pay £25 and fill fridge with pizza and pop and snacks, I do this regularly for kids friends who dog sit for me and they always seem keen to help out again

My dd does this, she’s insured and has a dbs and some sort of animal first aid certificate with multiple diplomas for animal care and dog grooming services. For a friend this would be £20-25 for an overnight stay, including walks, and a fridge full of snacks would be expected and appreciated

No doubt some teenagers would jump at the chance and do it for nothing or 10 quid, but I answered the OP with what I thought would be a reasonable amount to pay

Around here you'd pay £40-£60 for overnight care in your own home so I think £40 is perfectly reasonable.

I was thinking £40-50. I probably wouldn't go overboard on the food mind, just get a cheap pizza in.

Why is the dog ‘poor’? Or are you just trying to be hyperbolic? I have two dogs. One gets walked at 9.30 am, a 3-4 mile field run next to my off-road bike. We call her a torpedo on crack. Then the two of them have a very short walk at around 4pm as dog 2 is very old and arthritic and refuses to walk more. The op is the one to ask, not me

I’d say £25, it’s an overnight where she gets to bring her friend - chances are they might not get the opportunity to have a child free night in their own homes often/ever? So it might even be a treat for them. Either way, the work involved is minimal, and they get to hang out together and bed fed and watered with treats/snacks.
