If a an 11yr old enjoys stranger things, can they cope with Shaun of the dead?

I'm not bothered about the swearing.

She really wanted to watch it so we watched it together, the horror is all monsters and quite comic bookish imo. Anyway she enjoyed it and loves the characters.

They drop the c bomb in the first 5 mins, so be ready with the mute button

What is so different between the two? I know they are different tonally but both are pretty gory but also about friendship at their heart.

Anyway a stranger things discussion probably belongs on a different thread 😆, I don't really think enjoying horror at this age is shocking or damaging personally.

My 12 (nearly 13) yo definitely hasn't. He has ASD and repeats everything he hears. I mentioned the C word the other day and he asked if I meant Crap (i said yes)

I would have thought Shaun the Sheep is more suitable for an 11-year-old.

Yes. Stranger Things is terrifying at points whereas Shaun of the Dead is black humour, it isn’t actually scary. I think my DS watched it at a similar age as well as Hot Fuzz.

SOTD is hilarious but it’s got a couple of very rude / inappropriate words in it. I let me don watch - he loved it but the words are not great for children

I am a massive horror fan, have been since I was 12 and am introducing my kids with things at times I am fairly sure they will be ok with it and we talk about filming choices, how the Director is building tension etc so they understand its just a movie. We always watch videos on how things were filmed, how practical effects were achieved etc. I watch horror every day so its unavoidable in our house but I am very careful what I expose the kids to. Definitely don't think there is anything damaging about enjoying horror at a young age as long as it is approached in the right way. I won't be sticking him in front of Saw or I Spit on Your Grave any time soon!

I think I was younger when I watched it but I’ve been watching horror films since I was about 5, let her watch it! It’s hilarious.

my 8 year old has seen both and enjoys. yes if they have seen Stranger Things they should be ok with Shaun of the Dead , it is more comedy based.
also understands that they are movies/tv shows and all fake.
also enjoys Disney and has most recently been rewatching all of the Lion Kings so its not a case of violence violence violence

I didn’t find stranger things scary and I’m a bit of a wimp who never watches horror films. There’s way too much character development and too many storylines going on to have it be scary/upsetting in my opinion. It’s about friendship, loyalty, teamwork etc. just happens to be a lot of goo involved along the way.

I think had the OP's child been neurodiverse, it would have been mentioned in the original post. The absence implies a neurotypical child and the overwhelming majority (including many ND children, by the way) will have heard it and, going by how they speak on the bus or outside my office windows at breaktime when they are unaware that sound travels through an open window, use it themselves on a daily basis.
