If a an 11yr old enjoys stranger things, can they cope with Shaun of the dead?

I don't remember it being that scary but obviously I last saw it as an adult!

I'm not bothered about the swearing.

My DD watched it then - I think they're two very different things to be honest. Stranger Things bothered her more because of the weirdness. SOTD she utterly adores because of the humour.

I think stranger things, particularly the latter seasons were quite horrific. Shaun of the Dead will be tame in comparison. It’s brilliant too. Make sure you watch Hot Fuzz after (that one is a bit gory).

It’s not a film I would show an 11yo, but it’s not the worst film they could be watching. You know your child OP so it’s up to you.

They shouldn’t be watching either, imo. When DC ‘aren’t bothered’ by age inappropriate things, that’s not good. It suggests they are desensitised.

I get absolutely creeped out over zombies, even comedy ones. I blame that Channel 4 Big Brother Zombie programme they did years ago.

Just watched Shaun with my 11 year old well adjusted happy child. He loved it, I’m very careful about what he sees but this was good

Yeah my 11 year old has watched it and thought it was hilarious

11 seems young but I'd say it's much less scary and horrific than Stranger Things.

It's a comedy, not a horror.

Better to watch things like this with the support of parents, than gaming/watching YouTube/… on their own.
My son watched this and Hot Fuzz and many other films at this age. We were able to enjoy them with him and discuss any issues. Would also have been quick to turn it off if necessary. Like a previous poster’s child he’s a well-adjusted teen

We waited until 13 and watched it together. Is the dc about to go into year 7 or year 8? That would make a difference to me (my dc are 30 august birthday so at 11 in august would have been close to 12. End of year 6 feels too young to me but maybe okay if watching with parents.

We allowed it at age 14 but my brother let his dd watch age 11. He also plays 18 games, which I’m not okay with. Sil is a teacher and db highly educated Cambridge graduate but their choices often surprise me.

There's probably something in this, my mum used to go out to a hobby type thing one evening a week so my dad was in charge, we'd go to the video shop and he'd let us choose anything, I'd seen child's play by the time I was about 11, plus countless others of a similar ilk. I do now work in a profession where I have daily contact with the worst behaviour in society, especially violent and sexual behaviour/offences and I'm ok, I actually enjoy my work. Lots of people can't do it even from related fields and most who do only do it for a limited period. The question I get asked most when people hear what I do for a living, is how do you do that, I couldn't. I don't think that's a healthy response from me

There is a fair amout of gore even though it is played laughs. One of the guys literally gets pulled apart and you see his intestines. His mum dying could be upsetting? You know him best, you'll know what might bother him

Personally I am not letting my 12 year old watch it until he has seen some of the original Romero films but that is because I am a horror pedant and want him to understand the lore 🤣

I despair of all the young kids these days watching stranger things, ive come across kids as young as 6 watching it and wearing the merch.

parents need to remember they are their kids PARENT, not their mate.

Mine was about 14 when he watched (and loved) both. I have seen both many times, and am totally no fan of horror (literally only watched Scream). He is quite a sensitive soul, but just looked away at the extra gory bits. I found the language more coarse than the blood and guts, especially SotD, where cunts is from 1st line

My 10 year olds just watched both and loved them.

I made my 11 year old wait a bit before watching Stranger Things as I was concerned about the later series being more intense. But when we rewatched / watched the whole series with him and his older brother when he was 11/12 it was really noticeable that (despite the monster gore) the underlying messages in ST are very wholesome, about friendship, kindness, tolerance, etc.

I'm still saying no to Squid Games (which according to DS all his friends watched aged 10/11) because I think it sounds grim!

To answer the question, we all watched Hot Fuzz recently and enjoyed it. We’ll watch SotD at some point but I thought the humour in that was more relatable if you’re an adult who spent your 20s in flat shares and down the local pub. Hot Fuzz is the funniest out of the trilogy I think, and most accessible for teens, though they’re all great.

My very mature 10-yr old enjoyed Hot Fuzz but did have a wobble for a night or two afterwards because of the gore, as silly/comedic as it is to us as adults. I wouldn't let him watch Stranger Things as I think it's much more realistic and upsetting. I don't think he's ready for Shaun of the Dead yet - I think it skews a bit older than Hot Fuzz.

On the other hand, my 12-yr old would have loved all of the above at 11yrs (he watched ST at 12 and enjoyed it). Different strokes, I think!

Yes absolutely. There are zombies in it but it's not scary, it's more of a comedy film.
