Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

I’m afraid it’s quite tame. The sessions were one hour long. My friend and I hid in the toilets to try and get an extra hour.we were caught and turfed out

I am slightly disappointed!

You've fairly changed your tune. You've been highly obnoxious throughout the thread, arguing with a few different posters, posts deleted and now you're all smiling emojis and entertained?

I have had ONE post deleted on this thread, (as far as I can see,) which is far less than some posters, and I've not been 'highly obnoxious,' (maybe a bit sarcy, but not 'highly obnoxious.')

And I haven't 'fairly changed my tune.' I still stand by what I said that it's hardly surprising the OP has been banned from the store, and her behaviour was appalling, but I do agree with her about getting better dates, as sometimes it's no good getting anything that only has 1-2 days shelf life on it, if you are going to be using it for 4-5 days.

And yes I think the thread is entertaining.

All this OK with you? Smile

Same here. I’m not going to buy something that only has a couple of days left. It just doesn’t work for me

No the date hunting was completely reasonable.

I thought you found the thread and the people finding it funny depressing??

I know someone who ordered a pot of double cream and got two pots of single.

Yep, that happened to me with Tesco. I’ve also had a pack of bacon substituted with a pack of two pork chops, and bizarrely celery substituted with cucumber !!

We need a new thread for most insane supermarket delivery substitutes

user1471460024 · 25/08/2026 17:50

You should post the name and address of the supermarket. To make us aware of what supermarket are hiring terrible staff, and plus if this a policy or just a interfering rude member of staff. Just remember there is alot of people who support you.

If you actually read all the comments there are alot of us. We stand up for ourselves and don't waste money on items with a short shelf life. That member of staff should write a letter to the op apologising for the stress she has caused. Again, I stand with the customer.

Absolutely and I stand with a store who protects its employees against derogatory, foul, aggressive confrontational behaviour from a customer.

CillianMurphyhasbeautifuleyes · 25/08/2026 18:16

The OP is absolutely loving her “notoriety” on here.

user1471460024 · 25/08/2026 18:19

You can't change my mind. I stand with the customer on this and think the name and address of the supermarket should be posted. I want to know the store policy on this.

The OP would have been justified in complaining, if what she said happened is accurate. She wasn't justified in the disproportionate verbal abuse.

user1471460024 · 25/08/2026 18:22

But the op was verbally abused by the staff.

Give over 🤣🤣🤣. Only one of the two of them was verbally abusive...... the one that is now banned from Waitrose!

user1471460024 · 25/08/2026 18:46

The staff member was rude to the customer and verbally abused her. When the customer stands up for herself the staff member runs away to her manager like a child running to mummy to protect her.

She expected protection from the verbally abusive, foul mouthed customer and got that support. Rightly so.

user1471460024 · 25/08/2026 18:52

Thank God I don't let people like that supermarket worker talk to me like that. They should be ashamed of themselves. Again, I would like to say congratulations to the op for standing us for themselves and you should have asked for a refund on all the shopping. X

Do you go around calling people who annoy you a 'C' in public places @user1471460024? Or do you act like an adult and deal with it properly?

I've reached my 60s without ever calling someone that, it isn't difficult and I'm quite capable of complaining appropriately if needed.
