Banned from my local supermarket after an argument with a member of staff- my language was bad though.

So today I’ve been banned from my local supermarket, I’m not proud of what happened but I think that the member of staff was also in the wrong.

i was in the fruit and veg aisle looking to get some pre- chopped melon. The ones that come in sealed plastic pots. They were stacked quite tightly and some of the dates were quite soon, so I decided to go towards the back, in doing this I accidentally knocked 5 or 6 pots off the shelf. Immediately a female member of staff was on me- telling me “ you’re supposed to take the ones from the front”. I apologised for knocking some of them from the shelf but explained that it was my choice to choose the date that I wanted. By this point I had reassembled the display, so no harm done. She carried on chuntering so I said something like “ it’s really not a big deal, let’s move on”. As I went to walk away she said, “ it’s just not on”. I’m afraid this is where I let myself down. She was a small pointy woman of about 60 with short dyed red hair. I asked her what her problem was and she said “ customers like you thinking they own the place” to which I replied ( I know this is bad) “fuck off and shut your cunt up you fucking crackhead Anne Robinson lookalike”. It’s not often I take such a low blow but I had a rough upbringing and when I’m really pushed it emerges. The lady stormed off.

as I was leaving a manager asked me if I could step into an office for a chat, I said no thank you. She then said well I’m afraid that you won’t be able to shop here moving forwards.

so that’s that. Not proud of my mouth but she was a fucking horrible twat.

That poor woman. You really are vile.

To be fair, Anne does sound like quite the cunt

as a business owner, this woman would be fired immediately for harassing customers and her awful customer service skills. I would make an example out of her.

How many customers would not say anything, walk away hurt and upset and just leave a bad review? Affecting my business?

How many customers would avoid visiting after this unpleasant experience resulting in me losing money? Op alone brings in thousands over years I bet. I bet op is not the only one she bothered.

Thanks to her behaviour I would have lost loyal customers and their business.

OP would get an apology, a thank you for saving me from losing customers and her business and a 100 pound gift card and gift basket of free food

Nah we just all sit in the canteen mocking people like the OP. Staff never get into trouble when customers behave aggressively, I’d love OP to go into a supermarket in a rough area and speak to them like that because they are used to it and won’t put up with people behaving in this way.

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · 24/08/2026 18:06

Oh me you fucked up big time
All it would've taken "I'm the customer if I want to go digging"for better dates I will.

Cunt Anne Robinson crack head look a likely not so much.
If this is real.

I’ve been in many a supermarket in ‘rough areas’ and I’ve never been spoken to in the way the ‘Anne’ did.

It was the “ acting like you own the place” comment that got me. I was just trying to buy some fuckety melon ffs

Oh so you can behave normally in public when it suits you. Maybe Waitrose expects better standards from their customers and don’t like you rummaging around the shelves.

Portmore · 24/08/2026 18:10

Alderedge1 · 24/08/2026 14:33

Yeah there are thankfully

You do realize that many major supermarkets (including Waitrose) are signed up to a crime reporting scheme so information & images about offenders is shared across companies.

You will be on a watchlist at places like tesco, sainsburys, Morrison's, m&s and boots among others.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 24/08/2026 18:10

She was rude but you were abusive.

I do feel bad that I let myself down, but I’m not a particularly bothered if I upset her as she was vile. I agree that my words were inappropriate.

Eh? So “mumble mumble… acting like you own the place” = VILE
But “shut your cunt… blah blah crackhead blah blah blah” is simply inappropriate

Sure thing 😂

And hopefully you'd have got the same warm feelings from the industrial tribunal where you ignored an employee being verbally abused and dismissed them because of it?

As described, this woman does sound as if she overstepped the mark in talking to a customer. There are effective ways of dealing with that but OP decided to lose it.

Shouldn't Waitrose expect better standards from their staff as well?

IStillHearTheWaves · 24/08/2026 18:11

Wow, I was expecting 'I wouldn't have to rummage if the dates weren't so shit' (and would have had some sympathy), not the c bomb and personal insults! Way too far!

Swearing isn't the same as shoplifting.

I don't think either party covered themselves in glory here but the OP did go from 0-100 rather fast! I hate the c word so I would definitely report it to a manager and I would also expect a manager to deal with a customer using that sort of language. Whether the customer was in the right originally or not.

ilovesooty · 24/08/2026 17:28

Several people have said it was hilarious. I don't think it's remotely funny. I doubt she'll think again either. She seems incapable of self control and her only regret appears to be that she's been inconvenienced.

Although actually I’ve changed my mind. I’ve just thought about if someone screamed this at my mother and realised how awful it is. Nothing really gets to me but my mum would be very hurt.

So sorry OP, while initially I thought it was funny I think you’ve definitely deserved the ban there.

Don’t harass people and then play victim then.

Not sure why she was telling you off tbh. I often move crates around in order to access the better dates or better looking produce.

Oh ok, thank you for your comment

I think you shared the pathetic insult on here because you thought it was clever/amusing. If it wasn't made up.

I cannot see any other reason why someone would say that, then repeat it purposely making a thread about it?

Any real business owner wouldn't think like that.
