Let me help with paint colour! I have a degree in Interior Design, which is largely useless, except in circumstances like this!

TodayIsabetterone · 25/09/2026 15:22

How fab @FuzzyPuffling sounds right up your street! Having seen your pottery bowl you have a great eye for colour, unlike the previous owner of my house who claimed to be an interior designer by profession but let’s just say her taste was’t ours!

Although I’m not sure who would like a pink and black bathroom! ( A friend said it reminded her of a liquorice all sort 😂) I may have outed myself there but it was a long time ago and we bought the house pre illness as a project so the bathroom was replaced before we actually moved in but the interior design convo reminded me of that hideous bathroom. The deep red lounge with panels and pink frilly drapes wasn’t much better 😂
Despite the strange decor, when we viewed initially I literally just walked in the hall and thought I love this house, I hope it ticks the boxes! It just felt right.

martha79 · 25/09/2026 15:28

Wow, that sounds spectacular @TodayIsabetterone!

Back from my vaccine and a bit grumpy - I'd booked a specific time in advance (I have to pay for it), got there a few minutes early, 'checked in'... and then they let four people who'd just come as walk-ins go before me. I wasn't too bothered about the vaccine itself but waiting in a boiling hot Boots store for forty minutes wasn't in the plan, and I was quite wobbly and tense when I did finally get in there, so probably hurt more than usual. I was planning to do a bit of shopping in there but will get it all elsewhere in protest (realising my protest will not make a major dent in Boots' profits but makes me feel better).

Going for a nap now!

Ooh thanks you will now regret offering!

I have been through all the usual suspects and have narrowed it down to one shade card from Mylands - Beata Heuman's 24 Trusted Colours. I love her style and have her book. I am going to get a tester of Beata White to compare with LG Slaked Lime. I think it may be a bit warmer. Oak doors with frames and skirting painted a few shades darker than the walls....or bright white? Main rooms are all S facing.

So as not to bore anyone else I will ask for advice on a colour for my kitchen walls 🍽

Kitchen natural oak with black bakelite handles. The guy who made the cabinets had never heard of it (young) but I don't like the feel of metal. Small Arts and Crafts japanned shelves for tea and coffee, otherwise no wall cupboards. Refurbished copper gas lights (early Christopher Wray conversion) with conical white opal shades. 2 large copper pendant lamps. Not a downlight in sight!! Window frames agate grey (sort of an eau de nil) Black monkey tail handles. . Floor waterproof (allegedly) light oak engineered. Worktop TBC, but I fancy a streak of copper or black. Our current worktop is 30 year old melamine so I'm not too snobby!

Does this sound like a dog's dinner? Should I continue with a pale colour or go mad? I would be very much obliged for an opinion!

FuzzyPuffling · 25/09/2026 15:40

Mylands and LG are both lovely brands. Very easy to work with and very long-lasting. That's my personal experience.

LG "Linen wash" is a nice "not quite white" but reads as white. "Hollyhock" is another nice neutral, and I reckon you can't go wrong with a "Rolling fog".

Kitchen sounds like it would take a glorious green.

But what i always say is, what's in the room you can pick colours from? A plate or mug, plant pot, cushion...isolate the colours and go from there.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/09/2026 15:53

LG website and Facebook page both have lots of ideas and examples.
" Windmill Lane"?

FuzzyPuffling · 25/09/2026 15:55

Ha ha, @TodayIsabetterone , some designers are just nobbers!

TodayIsabetterone · 25/09/2026 16:35

😂😂😂 spot on @FuzzyPuffling
that made me smile… I was trying to be polite but honestly given the decor…. I can’t believe anyone actually employed her! 😂

Thank you that is very sound advice. Originally I wanted painted dark green cabinets but chickened out and went for a natural look but wonder if I should have been braver. We will need long curtains on one wall because of the brightness so perhaps a rich green linen would look nice? Food for thought!

The joy of a renovation! We so enjoyed doing up this house. All the Victorian doors had been covered in hardboard and orange carpet nailed over Minton tiles. It took a few years to do but we really enjoyed it.

It's a big responsibility to design the decor from scratch, which is why I am very grateful for some pointers from @FuzzyPuffling !

I absolutely agree about that "feeling" though, re buying a house. The original cottage was still standing when we bought our plot. It was quite dangerous to enter, with huge cracks in the wall, and quite filthy and damp. One floor had just rotted through so it was a hasty visit! I stood and looked out onto the garden and felt really happy that this would be home one day.

BTW my neighbour here had a black bathroom suite including the tiles 😳

Last vaccine I had was in a tiny dentist's office out of hours. A clinic nearby had had to cancel so all the patients from there turned up at 'our ' clinic at once. There were about half a dozen chairs and people queued out the door. Awful! Thought I would faint from standing.

Good for you boycotting Boots!

Morning all 👋🏻

DS is with his Dad. Getting back into the routine now after summer. I got back from work yesterday and as soon as DS had popped in to get changed and dump school stuff, I went to bed. Got up for food but otherwise I've been in bed since.

Didn't sleep amazingly well because I woke up lots but I have at least had a good amount all be it spread over 18 hours or so!

Anyway, the new coffee maker is definitely helping me in the mornings. I pop in my little home off next to my bedroom and get my cuppa then it's one less trip up and down stairs which always pushes my heart rate high and takes ages to come down again. Have to say Nespresso is not the nicest coffee, but it is doing what I wanted it for so I'm happy.

It's a beautiful day. I'm going to put all silly notions of forest walks or coffee out in a nice café out of my head. I must be strict and rest today.

Pottering through laundry and a bit of robot vacuuming will probably be my limit. I may try a bit of reading outside on my deck. My lovely flowers are still blooming so it's nice out there.

I'm still traumatised from The Beast from the East in 2018 😂

It's DH's birthday today, so we're going out for lunch. That's quite enough excitement for one day!

Gosh there's a cushy job, thinking up scary weather headlines!

I have finally reached sod it point with my socks. I have icy cold feet all year round so have a cosy collection of wool/cashmere socks which I dare not put in the washing machine. I hand washed four pairs this morning but couldn't face the final rinse, squeeze, roll in towel malarkey so they've gone in the washer at 20 with a 500 spin....living on the edge here.

That is literally all I've achieved today. Or maybe I've just buggered them and will have to get more for Christmas!

@MewithME you sound in better spirits today, hope you get a good rest. I remembered your socket drama the other day when one of ours did the same, could be our 20 year old Sebo vacuum cleaner is faulty but no time to investigate. Taped up for now but will try a new plug on the Sebo. They are a brilliant machine but sooo heavy. I love my roomba.

MewithME · 26/09/2026 10:29

I am feeling happy enough today thanks @TeaAndStrumpets . Raging tinnitus, internal buzzing, twitches and a bit of a headache.... But it's all relative. Amazing when that lot is still a 'good day ' 😆

Take care with the sockets! It's a bit scary.

Happy Birthday Mr P 🎂

DH and DD2 are both Virgo. You can trust them to do finicky jobs 🙄

I'm loving all the paint colour talk 🎨

Quiet one for me. Like @MewithME I'm fizzing and twitching so although I feel like I have energy, I know this is a sign to rest. So bed and tea is the order of the day ☕

Have a peaceful day all and enjoy your lunch @FuzzyPuffling 💕

CoffeeBeansGalore · 26/09/2026 11:40

Morning all.
Happy birthday Mr Fuzzy 🎁🥳.
@MewithME keep yourself in check & take it easy while you have the chance (matron voice with wagging finger 😁)
Had a lovely lie in.
Had hair cut yesterday. Not my usual stylist unfortunately. Nice enough cut but not sure she cut it short enough. I'll give it a week to settle as it may bounce up further. If still not sure I'll get dd round to take another inch off. She's a qualified hair dresser but got fed up & retrained. She never liked cutting my hair. Too soft apparently 🙄. But this is just a bit off the bottom so it'll be fine.
Have a lovely day everyone.

Oh yes the twitching is the worst, epecially the big ones which occur out of the blue! A sure sign the energy has drained away.

I am quite liking the idea of some green walls somewhere!

DH has taken over cutting duties. He has no concept of "just an inch" so my basic bob is wildly different every time! I just have a centre parting because I wouldn't trust him or me to do a fringe. I grew my hair after covid when the fatigue was too much but then of course it's very tiring to wash.

TodayIsabetterone · 26/09/2026 16:52

Happy Birthday to Mr Fuzzy, enjoy your lunch.

Take it steady @MewithME Sometimes good to enjoy just feeling less dreadful!

That’s frustrating that your hair isn’t quite short enough @CoffeeBeansGalore but hope DD can sort it. Mine is so long that I’d wondered whether to just let DD ( untrained!) try and trim it but I’m not sure I’m brave enough 😂 She often offers to dry it for me at least and does a good job!

I’ve been out for lunch too! A friend suggested it and I really wanted to get out so she picked us both up as we were debating if DH could drive. He is moving around a bit more and it seems less painful today but he’s still hobbling about slowly. What a pair!

Been resting in bed since I got home as it got quite noisy at one point so I’m rather shattered but lovely to catch up with our friend. And I met an adorable sausage dog called Norman who we had to say hello too as he looked just like dippy dog but was better behaved! 😂

Anyone excited for Strictly tonight?! DD will watch it so I quite enjoy all watching together!

martha79 · 26/09/2026 16:58

Afternoon all and happy birthday to Mr Fuzzy.

Had a rough night - it's all very well getting your flu jab in your non-dominant arm but I usually sleep on that side 😬 Had some big muscle twitches and weird temperature stuff, but it all seems to have settled down today, I just feel a bit washed out.

Been out for lunch with a friend (just the nearest cafe, sitting outside eating cheese toasties). Then a walk round the park and a visit to the nearby toy shop which specialises in Lego - friend is really into the big complicated kits. I've not done one before but treated myself to one of the little flower bouquet ones.
