We had one main course each, some edamame, some cucumbers, two glasses of wine and two soft drinks.

What do you think this cost in this day and age?

Guessing almost £20 main each, £10 per glass of wine, £5 per soft drink, £5 for each side so I estimate £80.

Gooseling · 16/08/2026 13:23

Similar to Nandos. I was gobsmacked at their prices the other week.

Oh it's in Kent. That's why.

Petts Wood is described, as a safe, affluent Suburban area.

Ordonot · 16/08/2026 13:24

Wagga has gone downhill. We ordered their lunch deal - it was just about edible, I used to love it - no more!

LoyalGoldMentor · 16/08/2026 13:25

I always think Wagamama is expensive as never in there long! I hope you enjoyed your meal despite the cost!

Yes, I just don't think I would go all that way for a meal. Not scared!

If someone selling alcohol suspects you are purchasing it for an under 18 (or an under 16 in the case of drinking with a meal at a restaurant or pub) then they have to refuse to serve you. Not sure what you think ethnicity has to do with that.

Yes, I know the rules. I know the look I got on the way in.

The free green tea is so lovely in Wagamamas though. I feel like the cost of our meals there aren't so bad because I can get the green tea and I'm not paying the drink cost on top. It is a huge plus of here over elsewhere for me.

Never got offered that!!!

Crucible · 16/08/2026 13:34

Yep I have had similar feelings about the bill for me alone, food arrives when it arrives which is just irritating, the wait staff rush you and keep scribbling on the paper menus, it's not that great now. Huge queue to get in though so there must be something to attract people.

But the only people that can use the discount are the people you mentioned - students and blue light card holders. That’s a very small minority.

Loads of people are eligible for blue light discount it's not just NHS. It's now teachers, care workers etc.

I'm eligible for one as I do some work for a charity - like a couple of hours a month.

Even if your employers not in blue light they will likely be signed up to something - mine does half price taste card which gives better discounts then blue light & loads of deals with restaurants including wagamamas.

Most chain restaurants it's unusual to have someone pay full price with no discount codes/vouchers etc

Me neither 👎

Agree it’s gone massively downhill - used to enjoy Waga food, now it’s ‘meh’…

And a lot more beside, including anyone who volunteers for any emergency services, foster carers, civil servants, veterans and porters and cleaners that are essential to keep hospitals running and certainly aren’t getting paid £70k

www.bluelightcard.co.uk/en/eligible-professions

I'm eligible because I do some work for a charity - like 2 hours max a month.

There must be about half the population eligible for one

bestcatlife · 16/08/2026 13:37

£80?

About £80

Ilovemyfam · 16/08/2026 13:39

When I dine out with one particular family member who is not a drinker and goes for tap water to cut down on the plastic, I have realized how much the drinks add to the cost of a meal.

willowstar · 16/08/2026 13:49

@AnnaBelIa I have been to Greece and Germany in the last couple of months and the prices in restaurants were now comparable to the UK

WaltzingWaters · 16/08/2026 13:50

I was really disappointed when I went to wagamamas. The table sharing, food coming at completely different times, noisy atmosphere, rushed service - felt very fast food but at premium prices. The food was fine, tasty enough but nothing amazing.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 16/08/2026 13:55

Were there not prices on the menu? Why didn’t you look at this before you went in? It’s readily available online. You could have easily seen that it wasn’t going to be dirt cheap for what you wanted beforehand.

The sides of edamame and cucumber are meant to be exactly that, sides to go alongside your main. If you wanted them as starters before the main you should have made this clear on ordering.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 16/08/2026 13:59

You say the experience was not very nice, rushed, noisy and hot and shared table, but that’s Wagamama! I used to eat in the first Wagamama in London and that was the charm of it: shared tables, noise snd bustle.

I cannot understand the prices at Wagamama, given that you can have lunch at Michelin star places like Atul Kochhar's Indian Essence, for £20 two courses or £24 three courses.

https://indianessence.co.uk/menus#weekday-lunch-menu

It does not have a Michelin star.

It is OK curry house for people living in Petts Wood/Chislehurst.

And yes, I have eaten there.

TorroFerney · 16/08/2026 14:00

I like Wagamama, it’s consistent and I love anywhere that serves a tea egg. They have a lunch offer in the week that’s good, we also have the rewards app and if you have a blue light card it’s 20% off every day. Not cheap but would anything similar be cheaper?

You can’t have starters though , they always say things come when they are ready. But ive never got my meal before the edamame beans.

What's a tea egg? (I'm aware I could Google, I just thought I'd ask )

Also, i was complaining recently to my German friends that restaurant prices have gone up and quality has gone down and they said the same has happened in Germany
