We had one main course each, some edamame, some cucumbers, two glasses of wine and two soft drinks.

What do you think this cost in this day and age?

I think mid level chain restaurants in the UK at the moment are maybe the worst value in terms of cost Vs experience. They have high costs they need to cover, including high rents in prime high traffic locations, back office admin, etc so that bumps up the price they need to charge, while the food is sometimes going to be not freshly cooked on site.

If you are lucky enough to find a good independent restaurant you might pay similar but a higher proportion of what you pay could be going towards better food or paying a chef who adds their own unique element etc, more service staff per customer etc. Potentially at least - it could be an awfully run business as well.

Though I will not stop going to Nandos.

It’s 2026 so I’m guessing £750 ish 🤣

Also very cheeky that restaurants now have a service fee discreetly included, for what is mostly mediocre service 😒

Luckily I live in London so usually go to lovely independents - which aren’t ever cheap, but are a nice experience with good service and food. We went to WM before a night out - hence wanting a glass of wine. And therefore I was taken aback by the price of a very average, in and out meal. I won’t be going back - fast food or independent for me from now on!

What's a tea egg? (I'm aware I could Google, I just thought I'd ask )

Hard boiled egg that’s been soaked in tea. You’ve probably got to be quite keen on boiled eggs! It just comes out cold on its own - I dint mean it walks out to the table, more that it’s ungarnished!

It was amazing when it first opened. Really something different- now it’s just standardised fare.
