Nah. My house is 300 yrs old. A welsh stone cottage. No aircon needed!

As soon as I'm living in a house I think i will staying in for a long time (more than 10 years) I'll be investing in an air or ground source heat pump that also cools. Got to be the way forward.

3 split units fitted early summer. Best 5k we have ever spent.

For me, AC is as necessary as heating now.

We are definitely getting an air con unit installed next year. Living in Surrey, this summer was unbearable. We struggled to sleep, work, and function.

We went back home to Dubrovnik for three weeks this summer, where it was even hotter than here in UK. The air con was on 24/7 at a comfortable 25°C.
It was such a bliss!
My brothers have apartments that they rent out on Booking.com and Airbnb. They mentioned that some guests have asked for blankets because they felt very cold during the night. The reason? They set the air con to 16°C!!!! Can you believe it? While nights were 30C, they were "freezing".
My parents said without Air con they wouldn't survive, the best decision in their life was to have them fitted 15 years ago.
Also, someone said Europeans don't have air con. Well, in Dubrovnik or generally Dalmacia, I don't know anyone who doesn't have air con.

Well, the more air con, the more carbon, the higher the global temperatures - so no, I'm not considering it.

Edited

Enjoy sweating then .

I agree . Couldn’t have got through this summer without it .

Those old Welsh stone houses are great for that. My parents’ old house was and we have enjoyed a stay in an old cottage last week in Carmarthenshire which shielded us from the worst of the heat.

I'll do one room but we have solar so it's carbon neutral.

I agree with your last sentence. How many rooms did you manage to cover with the split units?

I had a quote for 1 split unit which would cover 2 rooms and it would release our normal 1 room unit to be moved elsewhere. £2.4k for that.
