Anyone had Air Con fitted during this heatwave? It's going to be the new normal now so considering it as fans do nothing!!!

Anyone?

We luckily managed to get a unit before they all sold out. It has been an absolute god send. Best money I have spent in ages. We are using the water that comes out of it to water our plants, which is handy during a hosepipe ban.

So basically the countries that don’t need it for more than 3 months of the year are concerned about the carbon footprint but the rest of the world that need it 24/7 are not concerned at all ? I work with people from Hong Kong and when I mentioned about net zero etc and reducing ac use they just looked at me as if I was mad. It’s in every building and it’s constantly on all of the time otherwise the whole city would grind to a halt.

Would it? When I was a child we lived in a very hot country for several years and no one had air conditioning. The days started and finished earlier and there were carefully arranged shaded areas and shutters on the windows etc. Perhaps we will need to adapt in different ways eventually if it continues?

Europe is against it also Germany has very strict rules about it and switzeland doesn't believe in it and so on .
Not sure about Italy and Spain

I’m in tenetife currently and have air Von in apartment

plus many shops and business’s have it

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/08/2026 08:28

I would like it at home but sure would cost thousands

Well, the more air con, the more carbon, the higher the global temperatures - so no, I'm not considering it.

Edited

But it's the other way round. We need AC because it is hot, not it's hot because we've all got AC. It's already hot without us all having AC.

And anyway, it's too late to do anything about climate change.

Missey85 · 16/08/2026 08:32

I had mine installed last summer it's definitely better than a fan 😊 mines a split system so it's also a heater in winter ❤️

stackhead · 16/08/2026 08:34

We had it installed last summer. It didn't really come into its own until this summer and its been fucking brilliant!

In leiu of solar panels we're on a 100% green tariff and energy wise it doesnt cost anymore than running a fan all night.

We only have it in the bedrooms and its set at 23 degrees.

A decent night sleep is worth every penny!

susiedaisy1912 · 16/08/2026 07:24

its only us that seems to worry about that any other country that’s hot have ac and don’t even give it a thought.

Here in Australia it's been made illegal to put a house up for rent or sale without air con 😊 they passed the law because a old lady died of the heat at her house

allthemind · 16/08/2026 08:37

Can anyone recommend an installation company for a split system?

That's really interesting and surprising, I suppose if you don't want it you don't have to use it. Must have been a good ruling for those in the air con business!

Yes I would in a flash but apparently you need to have it two meters away from other properties which means we could only get it in our bathroom

I'm in a block of flats and have a unit in my lounge room 😊 I'm pretty sure it's closer than 2metres

Itsbeenalongtimeincoming · 16/08/2026 00:18

Yes total God send. You will need it on every room if you want the whole house air conditioned but I would just do your bedroom.

We have one unit in our bedroom, and one unit downstairs in our solid-roofed conservatory. During the hottest days, the downstairs one paired with a fan to distribute the cool air has done a fantastic job of keeping the house beautifully cool.

FlorenceBlack · 16/08/2026 08:44

We’re on the waiting list to have it fitted and I can’t wait.

Lottiesmummy25 · 16/08/2026 08:45

We had it fitting to the whole house last month and it is incredible- you don’t need it on for long to make a huge difference. Before this we had a portable unit in the bedroom that we had for a few years which also worked well. I think it will start to be much more normal over the next few years.

hahabahbag · 16/08/2026 08:47

No but I might install a ceiling fan in my bedroom, we don’t currently have any fans in the house and did cope fine in the day but a few nights were sticky. I’m thinking a nice 30’s style one, a bit Hemingway type vibes

singthing · 16/08/2026 08:49

I am also waiting for mine to be installed. Not entire house, just 2 key rooms, split system with external unit. It also heats as well, top rated energy efficiency. As someone with pathetically low energy usage, I am not worried that I am going to cause the end of the planet.

Especially after seeing this map recently too: brilliantmaps.com/air-conditioning-by-country/

That's not right. One of our outdoor units is less than 2 meters from next door's side wall. And the outdoor units don't have to be right by the rooms being cooled.

limetrees32 · 16/08/2026 08:59

@Summersorcherisjustsummer I'm considering a mono block because we're on the third floor and , as far as I can tell, access would be tricky for installation and maintenance.
And these can be fitted from the inside.
They have minimal outside presence so may not need the same distance requirements.

Tiptopflipflop · 16/08/2026 09:01

We have it in my home office, all the bedrooms and our conservatory. Paired with a fan to move the air about the house the whole house has been a comfortable temperature all summer. We don't set it particularly cold, usually 23, so we're using it to be comfortable rather than full hotel air con vibes.

It's such a game changer being able to get a good night's sleep every night.

We had a portable unit previously, but this is far more effective, efficient and cheaper to run.

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/08/2026 09:02

Would do it immediately but can't as renting.

catspyjamas1 · 16/08/2026 09:03

Installed mine about six weeks ago in my bedroom. Waited three months for installation as demand was so high after the last heatwave.

Do it OP. Best money I think I have ever spent on something! Have had much better quality and length of sleep, much more of a functioning adult the next day and no longer drenched due to hormonal night sweats.

Mine also has heating, fan and dehumidifier functions, triple AAA energy efficiency and so far, has cost very little to run on the night time setting. There's also a setting to reduce the energy consumption on the outside unit.

Brand: Diakin (has dominant market share in Australia).

The external unit has to be 1 meter away from any property or boundary. Why would that mean you could only have it in one room?

We have it OP, had it 3 years now and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone!

Summersorcherisjustsummer · 16/08/2026 08:03

I have not looked into it in depth but I thought it was somerhng to do with the tube or thing on the outside ?

Nope. I was told the outdoor units need to be 1m from neighbours but no restrictions on indoor units

DeLonghi Pinguino but, my house is small, 2 bedrooms, bathroom and hall upstairs but, it will start to filter downstairs too on hot days with windows shut but as i say my house is rather small - i would still say its a good air conditioner though!

Have this but its impossible to sleep as it sounds like a rocket is about to take off! Ended up getting a wall unit installed and keeping the portable downstairs if I need it there.
