Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

100% agree with you OP. I never really like summer and usually hate anything above the low 20s, but can't wait for 25-26 at the weekend here, it'scrazy that now feels like a low temperature. The ward I was working on today was hellish, so awful for the patients, at least I can come home after my shift.

I stayed with friends in London from Monday to Wednesday this week. The first two days were actually fine, but Wednesday was punishing!

However, their modest terraced Victorian house kept relatively cool even on the hottest Wednesday - they kept lots of windows open front and back and a nice breeze came through. It was being outside that was the hardest.

I am with you, OP. I've gone from irritated to anxious to terrified. Seeing the news tonight, and avalanches of ice/snow melting off the peaks in the Alps. And the bees going into early hibernation because there's no flowering plants left for them. Farmers and their livestock struggling. All the beautiful flora and fauna suffering. It's just all bloody awful, and I feel terribly guilty that I've brought kids into this shit show and about what they are going to face long after I'm gone.

Not overcast in the south where I am- 33 degrees and full sun- same as today and many days!

Shall we all move to Scotland? It's cooler. It's massive. The accent is nice. It's pretty. The people are direct so you know where you stand. It's closer than Denmark ( another nice cooler place).
Any other suggestions for places that are cooler weather wise you would be happy to live?

@ProcrastinatorsAnonymous Im considering other solutions instead. - My bedroom gets All the Heat of the sun - right until the moment it goes down - one fairly easy fix for me is to sort out my garden in such a way that I can sleep outside next year - without freaking out about critters! - some sort of hammock maybe (the new style where you can lie totally flat, pockets on the sides for bits n bobs). And/or a shed/shelter space that I can sleep in that will stay cool

I dont want to be darked on by spiders! Or have cats or other furries jump on me.

Ive also been considering fabric on the outside of my bedroom window - see if that helps.
The other obvious (but more drastic) option is to move.

Noooo. You’ll regret that. I’m in glasgow and all bastard summer long it’s been…. inconsistent, as usual. Mainly pish weather - rain mostly. And the odd day of sunshine, which rarely falls on the weekend/bbq times. I miss blue skies!!

I’m with you. This heat doesn’t feel right. I’m currently awake and will feel crap in the morning. That said the fires today were not just caused by this. This exacerbated but apparently well the ones in the West Midlands were kids doing some Tik Tok craze

It's been pretty sobering seeing the forecast in the UK tbh.

We were over in July and it only rained one day out of 16. This was in the North West and Northumberland.

I have never known it that warm, and that sunny for that long.

The main problem is that people don't have AC, homes and public spaces just aren't designed for that level of heat.

They might be. I've just been reading about sunspot cycles. 2025 and 26 are a 'double peak', meaning the Sun's been blasting out radiation on the high setting for two years. This is also why the Northern Lights have been so spectacular; they will be again this winter.

Obviously, global warming is real but I think catastrophe calls are a bit premature, in Europe anyway. Solar cycles are 11-14 years. Astronomers can predict them quite accurately.

In six years' time, we'll all be moaning about the cold summers!
