Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

this has to change. I’ve done everything on a personsl
level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

I’m a cold plunge wanker.
People usually think I’m demented.
It’s kept me going throughout this insane weather.

This Summer has been hellish just a sticky sweaty mess every bloody day.
When it eventually rains I'm gonna sit in my garden with the dog and rejoice.

I’ve got old style ceiling fans in each room

plus several shark fans ( expensive ) but very very worth it

Are you in England?? That sounds absolutely horrific. I’m in Ireland where we’ve been spared the really high temperatures that seem to have prevailed over a lot of the UK.

God, it’s terrible. I hate it. I’m moving to Scotland next summer.
I have an ice pack on my butt and fanny, and an ice cube on each boob. Two fans on max. Bloody horrible. Bloody British weather.

I'm really looking forward to rainy days. I have scottish ancestry and can feel the rain calling me! I have dreams of moving back up to Scotland when we can in hunt of rainier weather!

We are currently surviving also with portable air con units, the heat knackers my MS so cant get too hot. Holding on for Saturday here too!

Complete solidarity from me right down to having an unwell husband who has found this really difficult. I bloody hate it. Sod spending thousands going abroad to find the sun - we've spent a fair bit staying in an air-conditioned hotel when it's got too unbearable, because my husband is too unwell to travel. it's bloody awful. Thank GOD it's drawing to an end. Our forecasts look as if it is.

Im in London but Ive loved the weather most of the time. We’re in the middle of a house move so it got a bit too much today moving packing boxes around and cleaning. But it’s very sad to see the damage being caused by the fires.

Lots of people I know are putting in air con and solar panels, which seems like a good combination to me. If it's hot enough to run the aircon, the solar can power it.

South Wales here - wildfire smoke was so thick on Monday that I decided to keep my son entertained with just indoor activities. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, we have consistently had very smoky days. Fire is on the moors and have local friends who can see the flames from their house. It apparently is "under control" now, but it is still affecting us all, and has done since Friday. We've also had 2 new wildfires pop up within a few miles of one another. t's bloody terrifying!!

Also, I work with the elderly, and trying to ensure they're adequately hydrated is a constant uphill battle.

It all almost feels a little apocalyptic. 😔

I'm 36 weeks pregnant in Merseyside and it's fucking horrendous. I don't know how you're all coping down south.

I had planned to work until my due date but sacked it in at 34 weeks as I couldn't concentrate at all - and I have a very chill admin job and had been allowed to work fully from home once Summer began.

I'm anxious and miserable. Me and my partner have set up a tent in our back garden and we sleep in there every now and again when it becomes too hot inside. We were in there last night and tonight as well.

I had become obsessed with a smell in my living room that was massively bothering me. It smelt like rotting meat and I was convinced there was a dead rat somewhere. Eventually I realised that the smell is coming from the fabric on our sofa having absorbed an ungodly amount of sweat from myself and DP when we have been laying there in our underwear when it's been too hot to wear clothes. I'm going to rent a fabric cleaner from our local supermarket to try and suck out the sweat and salvage the sofa. Vile.

My nesting instinct has kicked in mentally and I want to make the house all clean and neat and cosy but the heat means I get exhausted very very quickly and I haven't managed any significant cleaning yet. I'm ordinarily very clean and tidy but I can hardly move or breathe. I'm just going to hire someone to do a deep clean on my shithole of a house and tip them generously.

Currently 28° in my bedroom, and that's after having the windows open for hours to get a through breeze.
I sincerely hope it's going to cool down and we get some rain soon, as I'm not sure how much more I can take of this, having little sleep, dreadful diet and no exercise.

I've had enough now too ,I can just about cope as long as I do nothing,which is boring and impractical.

I used to live in a flat in London, hot summers were a special kind of hell,this summer must be horrendous.

I think we are likely to expect potential one or two more heatwaves to come, but only in to the high twenties. By mid September I think things will be back to more average weather but still potentially hotter than average autumn.

I promise I won’t moan about rain. Praying that there won’t be floods though

All of you celebrating this glorious summer need to think of people that are really suffering. All the peopl working in kitchens, dry cleaners mud drivers etc because they have no choice. Imagine that. Awful. Also sick people. I have cancer and a stoma bag. Think about that in this heat. I’m in london. It’s 32 degrees in my bedroom right now. I’ll have to get up at twice in the night in order to empty the damn thing. We can’t all celebrate this heat

I wonder how many people who say this and moan about the heat (and the floods) are merrily shopping for crap they don’t need on Temu, taking twice weekly deliveries to their front door from Amazon, have wardrobes full of fast fashion, idle their cars rather than switching off the engine etc not realising that they’re part of the problem.

In the midlands and fucking hating this weather. We are off to Cornwall next week where rain is forecast everyday and temperatures rising to 21.

Where did you hear this OP? Just checked Met office website and yes it is going to cool down a bit but there is not much rain forecast and high pressure is set to continue. I really do hope this is the end of it but fear this is just another lull.

I agree - it's been horrendous and many of our homes and flats, like mine, are built to insulate heat, which has made this summer unbearable given the temperatures we've been experiencing.

It's good to see the weather forecasts suggesting that temperatures in London and the south east dipping back into the 20s next week. I just hope that they stay low as we go into September and the back to school / back to work season begins.

Yep I swear I have strong viking genes. I am made for winter and love the sea.
