Firstly I appreciate this is not the same for the rest of the country

but we’ve had it horrific here (London). I’ve never felt so shit in my life as I have for the last 10 weeks. I’ve spent between £250-350 a month on electricity (portable air conditioners). I’ve felt anxious, headachy, it’s FUCKED with my peri menopause (brain fog, no words, cognitive decline). I’ve felt tearful and as if it would go on forever. There are moments where I’ve thought I can’t take another moment of this. My sleep is proper fucked.

level I can. Air conditioners only when necessary, above 26 inside (DH has long Covid so literally throws up in heat). His asthma is exacerbated. The dogs have had the shittest summer. I’ve had a couple of rescues that can’t go out about 22 degrees. I reckon they’ve been walked briefly 3 times a week. We deliberately went away on a cheap caravan holiday twice just so they could smile. There were endless days I couldn’t work as too hot in my home office and clients cancelled.

I cannot wait til Saturday.

I hope for solidarity from others. I want to wear a fucking hoodie again. I’ve spent every day sat around in my underwear inside for vast stretches of the day. This is not sexy.

The issues are less about how cool your house feels or if you like sunny weather.
It's things like we don't have enough reservoir capacity compared to hotter countries.
Our farming system and crops is not designed around the changes we are seeing. There will be crop failures and knock on of cost and availability.
Every public building needs adapting at huge cost. DfE have allocated less than the cost of one new secondary school for retrofit climate adaption.
All the amenity grass you see on every park and public space, plus all the native street trees are not able to cope with the +2*c average and heatwaves. They will have a high failure rate.
Our transport isn't designed for the sustained heat that a hotter county is. So tracks are buckling and a/c on many trains is designed for +25c, not 35c...
So yes, it is a hot summer.
But this is the start.
And we as a country are not able to afford the money or speed of adapting needed.

My nearest town has about 3 or 4 rivers of water from leaking mains pipes (or something). Ridiculous. Our water companies don't know how to look after the (usually) plentiful water we have.

What really grinds my gears is the ever changing weather forecast. Local weather, Met forecast, Apple, bloke on Anglia News, our Local paper - saying yesterday in unison that Norwich would have rain from Friday until Tuesday. So, Met forecast has the drought warning, the amber alert, and a flood warning, on the same page. Covering all basis. Yesterday he said today would be cooler, then told us that Cromer broke all records today for intense heat.

Tonight weather twit on Anglia news tells us that tomorrow will be cooler than today, (yippee). But, he isn’t certain whether we will now get any rain over the next few days, due to winds, blah, blah, blah…

Cut to rest of news, the worst fire in twenty years on the heath west of Norwich is out, but still being dampened and monitored. Don’t use disposable bbqs, remember there’s a hosepipe ban, if you’re in a flood area, check that you have sandbags. Have a lovely weekend.

I think we’ve been very lucky down in Cornwall. It’s been a bit milder, we have the sea breeze and can go to the beach almost every day to swim. We love the sunny weather, but very much appreciate it’s much more pleasant down here than upcountry, and we have the opportunity to really enjoy it. I have horses and they have plenty of grass, the ground is dry but it’s not like the rest of the country, even 2 counties up my best friend is feeding winter feed to her farm animals - ours are still out at pasture quite happily.

Not at all. Summers have been becoming increasingly hot where we are and I am dreading next year. Temperatures are only going up.

Well, if the AMOC (Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation) fails, we'll be in for colder weather, especially the winters, and that is a possibility!

I'll take the extreme heat if we get proper winters again

Just looking at the firemap , the whole of South East Wales is infested with these fires, and now there's a couple of big ones started in Mid Wales... how are we getting so many?!

I cannot wait for autumn, layers I love wearing layers, lovely knits, scarves, jewellery, I can’t even bear a necklace touching me in this heat, look red and hot most of the time, I want crisp autumn days, walks where there is a light chill, home for hearty food and a lit fire, happy dog having been walked along the beach or woods without being rushed home before it’s too hot, can’t wait for September

26oC is still hotter than a typical summers day, yes not heatwave temp but still hot.

Me too. I can’t bear another quiche even though notmally my favourite meals. So today was plate of salad and cous cous. Cheese spread sandwich for tea. As I feel a bit faint and sick.

OP as expected I had 34 here and at nearly half 11 the coolest room in my house is 28. Forecast 28 tomorrow…it’s never ending.

I think I’ve got heat exhaustion. I can’t cool down, I feel a bit sick and my legs feel heavy. I’ve just had a cool shower and I’m lying down with the fan blowing on me. I’m completely sick of the heat.
