Eclipse- is it safe to watch through your phone on selfie mode?

Does anyone know if it's safe for your eyes to turn your back to the sun and put your phone in selfie mode to watch the eclipse?
I left it too late to buy glasses.

I had to waste some craft card for this.

Ok in terms of batshit crazy my neighbours came out wrapping themselves in big foil blankets,ones you use in A&E, then they were peeking through the edges directly at the sun. We couldn't avoid looking at them as our backs were to the sun while we were looking through colanders.

It is fair enough to ask and then receive information, but with the best will in the world, not everyone is capable of taking that information on board. Asking why over and over again and having it explained to you over and over again will do no good if you do not have the capacity to fully understand it. There comes a point when you just have to accept what you've been told.

Oh, by the way, if you knew who I used to work for, you'd understand why I find the rocket science mention so amusing. But I can't tell you, so you'll just have to accept it. 😂😎

The top hole is blurred in this pic but the bottom is clearer. It definitely went cooler and darker and strangely still, even though it wasn’t the full eclipse.
(ps I just pushed a pin through a cereal packet. I’m sophisticated, me!)

Took a picture and my phone’s perfectly fine…

🤣 me and dd tried using the colander method stood at the end of our drive. Looked very furtive as we hid it everytime a car went by.

It wasn't very impressive (or perhaps my colander was substandard).
