How many towels for shower and hair wash?

I’ve noticed a number of times when staying at a hotel or Airbnb that there is only one towel per guest or sometimes one bath towel and one hand towel each. So I’m wondering what other people do when they wash their hair and whether what I do isn’t usual.

At home I wrap myself in a large towel or bath sheet and when I wash my hair I wrap it in a separate towel. So only having one is inconvenient.

What do you do? Is it unusual to need two towels?

Two towels here too. But I generally take my hair towel with me if I’m staying in an air b n b because I colour my hair red and it can stain white towels, so it’s not usually an issue for me.

One for me but I have wavy hair and don’t dry it with a towel or wrap it in one

I ask for an extra one generally as I like a separate hair towel too

Two big ones as I have a lot of long hair and a hand towel leaves it trailing out when I wrap it up. Whenever I stay in a hotel and they leave me one of each I go to reception and ask for more bath towels.

I’d only use one as I have curly hair so towels are a no-no. I imagine women with straight hair would need 2.

I have some of those small hair wrap towels that I take away with me because yes, you need a second towel for long hair.
They are very lightweight and small so easy enough to pack.

Thanks everyone. I usually do take a Turkish towel with me for my hair and of course this time I didn’t and there’s only one here.

Interestingly this time it’s a lovely bnb that is run by a friend who has short hair so perhaps it didn’t occur to her?

Towelling bathrobe and towelling turban. Much more convenient. I’d expect two towels per person though

I would use one. I dry myself, then use Same towel to damp dry my hair before using hair dryer.

surely if they give you a hand towel as well, the hand towel is for hair drying if you wanted? As another bath towel would be too big to balance on your head

Well, I imagine it’s down to cost. Bnbs often operate on a shoestring. She will assume that if a guest needs more than what’s on offer they will ask, but if she gives everyone multiple towels as standard, they will all get used, generating extra laundry.

I can’t dry my body with wet hair. The water runs out down my back as fast as I’m drying myself!

I like a bath sheet for most of me and a medium-sized towel for my hair although it’s short. I don’t want to use a towel that’s dried my bum on my hair or face!

Sometimes I've been given 3 in BNBs or rentals which is handy but I can cope with two and just use the smaller towel for drying my hair if needs be.

The solution is to wash your bum in the shower!!

One for me. I would rough dry my hair first then dry my body. I don’t wrap my hair in a towel but I do put it up in a crocodile clip when I put moisturiser on so it doesn’t get in my hair.

I travel with a microfibre towel for my hair but if I forget it I give myself a quick towel down, then use the bath towel to squeeze dry my hair then put it back around me while I do my contacts and teeth. Or as I’m usually with DH so there are two hand towels I use whchever one we are not using for hands.

I don’t think I’ve ever stayed anywhere that has given more than one hand towel and bath towel per person, it just isn’t necessary for the most part and wouldn’t occur to me as a host either. The towelling robes I think are a waste of space/time/laundry, I never use those.

I always use 2 towels like you , I’m always asking at hotels for more. We stayed in an Airbnb in Spain recently (I took a couple of hamman towels with me for beach and planned to use them also in shower ) to find a heap of lovely plush towels - 2 baths here and 2 hand towels per person (Airbnb could take 5 guests) - I was in heaven

I use the hand towel to wrap my hair up so I can dry my body with the bath towel. Then remove hand towel to dry hair with a dryer or just in the air. That's my routine wherever I am, at home or in a hotel.

I rub my hair with the big towel and then use it for my body!

I use towel turban things so take them when I travel, usually microfibre as better for curly hair, they dry quickly too

I have always found it is a bath towel and hand towel each. We share one of the hand towels and I use the spare one for my hair. Husband has short hair.

I’ve only ever used 1 towel for a shower/bath. It wouldn’t occur to me either than some people might want 2!

Of course I do that but I still prefer a cleaner towel on my head and face!

Two. Most hotels give you a bath sheet plus hand towel per person, so that's fine. But I was in a Premier Inn this week with just one bath towel, so I simply asked for a second one. Sorted.

I use a hand towel for my hair and a bath towel for my body, like I do at home.
