I know its the Daily Fail but ive been past this area and its become really shocking. Its a huge camp now. Why aren't the council doing anything?

The Romanian and Bulgarian beggar encampment blighting heart of London

Row upon row of tents, hurling dishwater onto the road, bathing on the central reservation, harassing passersby, and stealing booze and solvents from the local newsagent.

Compassion fatigue is increasing.
I was reading this morning that the New IRA are planning a new wave of violence to drive migrants out of Ireland. The UK government are anticipating a wave of people moving in our direction as a result.

I’ve definitely noticed an online uptick of people talking about taking all sorts of community issues into their own hands because the police do nothing. Young people are just smashing in doors of shops in my town centre, local resident groups know who the young people are, happens regularly and police do nothing. Now local people are threatening violence on the family unless they sort the kids out. All kicking off and I had to report a threat of sexual violence against one of the teenage girls and Facebook stated it didn’t violate their Community Standards!!!! FFS it’s like watching community break down in front of my eyes and nooone seems to give a shit.

People are angry. They have less money in their pockets month by month. They see handouts going to people who haven’t paid in and their locality being treated like garbage. it’s hard to get a doctors appointment. No dentists taking NHS patients. Our water gets turned off regularly due to water shortages and yet they’re building masses of new housing in all our local towns and villages. The heat wave also doesn’t help as people are more tetchy as they watch everything dying around them and of course we have a hosepipe ban. It’s just so fucking gloomy.

Please don't abuse the Grenfell Tower victims to push your narrative.

All the 72 people who died where identified and all where legal tenants. There was never an issue IDing them beyond the fact some ion the top floors including children, were entirely cremated by the heat of the fire. Who they were was known early because of their calls to the fire brigade, and families. One was a terrified 12 year old, taken in in the midst of it and looked after by the neighbors she died with. Formally scientifically confirming what was known required detailed forensics.

Six chancers jumped on the false narrative being spread that tenants where sub letting, and tried to pass themselves off as 'having lost homes and relatives' in the fire. Most where jailed for it.

The claim the dead were in some way dodgy is a narrative pushed by the guilty and the hateful.

Give over, OP isn't 'abusing ' grenfell victims what a ridiculous thing to say.

'Suicidal empathy' commonplace on the left and centre ground of politics essentially drives compassion fatigue.

I’ve just checked that and AI said the following and said it was widely reported including news sources such as the BBC and the Telegraph.

The problem was compounded because many tenants were immigrants — recent or otherwise — and many were wary of coming forward with information, partly out of fear of immigration enforcement given some occupants were undocumented or subletting illegally.

To address this, the authorities took a deliberate step to encourage people to come forward:

• The Director of Public Prosecutions issued guidance telling prosecutors not to bring charges for illegal subletting, given the public interest in identifying victims.
• The government said no one from the building would face charges for illegally renting out flats, and the Home Office said it would not conduct immigration checks on survivors or those coming forward with information.

Despite this, identification remained extremely difficult — the final confirmed death toll was 71, and officials acknowledged some victims might never be formally identified due to the severity of the fire damage.

Surely, since Brexit, they are not entitled to be there. Why doesn't the government simply charter some planes and return them to Bulgaria/ Romania?

Rounding people up, depriving them of physical liberty, and moving them elsewhere is frowned on.

And btw it's decided not to count* *Logan Gomes, the 72nd victim, who was two months from being born, but stillborn in hospital after his mother was rescued from the fire.

Yes bullshit was widely reported and a narrative was formed. You can just about forgive it at the time, because it was chaos and terror and people including the authorities brought into the ideas being reported as if they where fact.

It lead to 6/7 people claiming to be tenants, some claiming to have lost relatives, who weren't and hadn't.
They wouldn't have got away with it for as long as they did, if the false narrative wasn't pushed.

All survivors eventually got the message they needed to let services know they where alive, and all did. Again there where no sub letters, and no illegal immigrants.
There where a couple of flats where partners and additional family members who weren't on the tenancies where staying.

But we are 9 years on (still waiting for the guilty to be bought to book) and it's unbelievable and disgusting these claims are still being made.

The narrative that many desperately shocked people whose families and friends picked them up and whisked them away, didn't race to tell the authorities who they where is because they where wrong doers, is bullshit.

Unlike most who had made calls trapped in the fire, a few couldn't or didn't.
It took a couple of years to be able to scientifically prove their scant cremated remains in their flats were them, and those who wished to smear them had a field day.

Those who lived there knew it was their neighbors, but scientifically proving it took time, especially in the face of people deep in conspiracy theories.

They're only in control up to a point. They can make new laws, if they can get them through parliament, but otherwise they're stuck with the current laws and/or the ECHR, under whose jurisdiction we are still, despite leaving the EU in 2020. And boy do these foreign criminals take advantage of that, together with Legal Aid, that most Britons can only dream of, and barristers to argue that the child they fathered with some random woman, who they neither see nor provide for gives them 'a right to family life'.

Either that, or bleeding heart lefties block them from being deported, if the British authorities ever get to that stage. Remember the Jamaican rapist who was in the process of being loaded onto a plane when do-gooding activists prevented it from leaving and he then went out and raped another woman? Yep, that's good old Britain for you! We never fail to be a soft touch and to give advantages and benefits to people who have absolutely no right to them, while penalising the law abiding citizens who work hard and pay their taxes.

Edited

I’d be interested to learn how you are linking the ECHR with Brexit.

In any case, judgments against the UK are very rare. And before you harp on about the misreported infamous chicken nuggets case, that was not the reason the first tier tribunal found in favour of the claimant, despite what Kemi Badenoch said, and the decision was in any case overturned.

The number of foreign national offenders who successfully appeal against deportation on human rights grounds alone is around 0.73%, as a proportion of all sentenced foreign national offenders.

Since 1980 there have been just 29 judgments in UK cases at the ECtHR which have concerned the removal of a foreign national. In 16 of those cases, the court found that a planned deportation or extradition would not breach the ECHR and therefore could go ahead. The court found a violation of the ECHR in the other 13 cases, four of which concerned Article 8, the right to family life. The court very rarely finds that government policies on immigration control breach the ECHR.

Anyway, back to the Daily Mail…

No idea about this case, but just because someone's husband is a President of a country does not make it implausible that she is entitled to social housing. They may be married on paper only, she fled DV and do on. The wife of one of the richest royal families in the world is an asylum seeker in the UK.

Well, here’s the skinny, perhaps you should have checked before posting.

She was born in Sierra Leone and came to London to be a model and actress - so not exactly a key worker, although she had a council flat for 10 years before marrying and moving back to SL in 2018.

She has an extensive property portfolio and lives in the presidential palace.

The local council were apparently totally unaware of this situation until the Times tipped them off. How many other abuses might there be? People know they can do it with no one bothering to stop them,

Technically if you are a big issue seller you are classed as employed, and are are entitled to claim certain enhanced benefits. This loophole is fully exploited by the gangs who run the BI sellers and explains why many people , including me, don’t buy the BI any more. It has turned into a back door scam.

It’s a shame it’s been hijacked by criminal gangs. I live in the south west in an area that isn’t particularly diverse. All the Big Issue sellers I see are foreign. There was one man selling it outside the market in my local town for eight years, at the time there were plenty of local job opportunities, it must have ‘paid’ enough for him not seek any alternative employment.

So the relative timing probably impacts what you see when passing through.

Calm down and stop being so hyperbolic.

I was not 'abusing' Grenfell victims, I found it very sad that there were people who died in that tragedy whose families may never have know what happened to them.

I came onto this thread about a specific begging group in London, as someone who knows the homeless and begging groups around Euston road, to try and give facts about why that situation was complicated.

I wasn't prepared for your claims about Grenfell to be used as support of another poster whose family is profiting from the abuse of Housing association flats.

What you said was: Legal tenants regularly sublet to others and pocket the difference. This was the reason it was impossible to ID some of the Grenfell Tower victims.

The first line is true, depending on the definition of "regularly."
The second is a total lie. and absolutely is abusing Grenfell victims and for that matter those who survived who have to live with it.

The myth is further spread with your claims that: I found it very sad that there were people who died in that tragedy whose families may never have know what happened to them.

Well you don't need to feel sadness for the non existent dead people you claim wern't ever ID'd. They don't and never did, exist.

Everyone involved knows exactly what happened to their families and friends who died.

Forensic evidence was given by the coroner for every set of remains and traces gathered and the search for them was beyond thorough.
Alongside the normal identification teams, archeologists where brought in to hand sift the dust of every flat, corridor, landing, and stairs.
There are no mystery dead "whose families may never have know what happened to them."

It took five months to formally identify some of the remains because they where reduced to co-mingled DNA which initially was treated as separate samples. Mothers holding children, people holding onto each other and pets.

Not because there was subterfuge and wrong doing among the tenants. But, you'd like me to calm down and let you claim there was?

We are nine years on with people still trying to heal, and people are still trying to spread doubt. Why?

You're telling me to calm down about false accusations that cut so deep, and that my language is hyperbolic - highly exaggerated (where please?) about the nasty curve ball you threw in to this thread that smears very real people.

You may say it's hyperbolic (extreme exaggeration) to say it's abusing dead people from a tragedy, which continues to re-traumatise those affected, and isn't how the people affected feel.

No one from Grenfell's dead family members or friends are out there living under a new name hiding behind the remains of a wrongly identified sub tenant.
And there's no unidentified remains whose families won't ever know what happened to them.
Yet the accusations continue to be made and continue to damage, and we all know why. While they do, I and others will not "calm down" over drawing attention to a pernicious lie being snuck into conversations as fact.

Would you just please consider educating yourself on the truth and stopping doing this?
There are plenty of real subletting situations to draw from to back up what you want to say.
