I saw this post elsewhere today.

I heard Simon Mayo playing Coming Up by Wings today. Not heard it for years, my dad used to think he was singing Tommy Yogurt

Other gems included ....

Macy Gray - I wear goggles when you are not here

DJ Luck & MC Neat - Ali with the mittens on, Ali with the mittens on (repeat several times)

The Wanted - She can't sing, she can't dance, but who cares, she walks like my nanna

Not a mishearing, but when I was 4 I came home from nursery and sang a song we'd learned there, but couldn't remember the last line, so I improvised:

Little bird, I have heard
What a merry voice you have,
Soaring high in the sky
What a cheeky face.

“My love has got no money, he's got his trombolese”

I will never not believe this is the correct version

'I saw the sun' by Ace of Bass.

The sign apparently!

Island industry, that is what we are..

Dontlletmedownbruce · 14/08/2026 12:28

I was genuinely shocked recently to discover its not 'Waterloo, how did you feel when you won the war..' but 'I was defeated, you won the war'. Which of course makes a lot more sense

Chaka Khan- "I'm Terry Wogan!"

'Street light' by Randy Crawford.

You mean its not street light !!?? 😲

CosiFannyTutte · 14/08/2026 17:03

It really isn't, @Boodahh 😁
I only found that out in the last few years!

Abba - Since I saw you last night in Tesco's.

lol
I always thought that Glasgow was pretty random considering Abba went everywhere on tour! I guess it fits in. They always seemed to write lyrics moaning about something though.

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2026 17:07

I thought it was street lights too ? What is it then

Street Life!

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2026 17:18

Street life! Of course

CosiFannyTutte · 14/08/2026 18:44

I used to wonder why she was singing at the street light.

I really like 'Since I saw you last night in Tesco's' 😁

Robert Robert Runcie

Paparazzi by Lady Gaga.

(I did wonder why she had a thing for a former Archbishop of Canterbury).

This is my favourite one of these ever!

Same here - think I learned on a similar thread to this one.

bookstack · 14/08/2026 18:54

K D Lang, can’t stand gravy

CosiFannyTutte · 14/08/2026 19:00

I'm sure I also thought it was 'Waterloo! How did you feel when you won the war?' as well.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 14/08/2026 22:42

You're so vain - 'you had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte..'

this blew my mind, I read it on a similar thread here years ago and have been telling anyone who will listen since then. The song very clearly says 'gavotte' yet everyone thinks they hear 'go by'. Have a listen and you'll hear it clearly

Oops, this me! I literally only realised this last month! 😳😄

There was a famous Ad for Vitalite spread that used that song and the first line in that was definitely about “wanting some breakfast”.

Oh, I used to love those Vitalite ads and I thought the same the first time I saw one on TV!

In a similar vein I always used to wonder why Cyndi Lauper thought someone's true colours were beautiful like Ray Moore (Radio 2 DJ of yesteryear, for those less long in the tooth than me) and why the Waitresses were singing to Terry Griffiths (snooker player - and it was 'Merry Christmas', doh. 😂)

Friend of mine always used to hear the 'baby, baby' in Spagna's Call Me as 'David Bailey'.

When I was little I could never work out why Fernando had a lightbulb in his hair. Made a lot more sense to learn it was actually 'a rifle in your hand'.
