β‘οΈ UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated that Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
According to him, he asked about this at Downing Street when he took office in July this year and "received a clear answer: yes, it happened."
Burnham did not specify exactly how Russia interfered in the referendum or how large-scale it was. However, he noted that the UK had not sufficiently informed citizens about attempts to influence the country's political process from abroad.
Commenting on the prime minister's words, Minister for Europe Stephen Doughty stated that he would not "go into details" but acknowledged that Russia tried to influence democratic processes in the country in 2016. According to him, Moscow is waging an information war and will spend Β£1.5 billion on disinformation and propaganda this year.
Burnham added that this week he discussed Russian disinformation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He called for speaking clearly about how Russia is trying to influence the politics of European states. According to Burnham, this will help voters in Germany and France.
βͺοΈIn the 2016 referendum, a majority of UK citizens (52%) supported leaving the EU. The country officially left the bloc on January 31, 2020.
βοΈRussia attacked six Ukrainian energy facilities in a day, despite the energy truce announced by Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky stated.
In an interview with Fox News, the president said that Ukraine did not strike Russian energy facilities last night, while Putin's forces continued attacking Ukrainian infrastructure. It is therefore increasingly obvious that Moscow does not intend to support the energy truce proposed by the US.
The president also emphasized that diesel prices do not depend on Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil depots but are rising due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
β‘οΈJournalist Tkach of Ukrainska Pravda was detained in Austria because he was noticed at a location that two other men suspected of espionage were surveilling.
The Vienna prosecutor's office once again emphasized: the reason is not his professional activity. It stated that the suspicion was based on witness information and on the fact that the suspects were watching that location at the same time as Tkach.
βͺοΈOn October 5, Austria also detained two alleged employees of Ukrainian military intelligence on suspicion of espionage. Both men deny the charges against them.
βͺοΈJournalist Tkach himself and a cameraman were detained on October 8. Ukrainska Pravda's editor-in-chief, Sevhil Musaieva, stated that Tkach was held in Vienna for over 12 hours. The Vienna prosecutor's office later said that Tkach and Bondarenko were detained on suspicion of espionage, but it was not confirmed.

πΊπΈπ·πΊThe US did not threaten to cut off aid to Ukraine over strikes on Russian oil refineries but hopes to bring Putin back to negotiations with a diesel deal, Reuters reports, citing three sources familiar with the Miami meeting.
Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner explained to the Ukrainian delegation that Putin is not yet ready for negotiations. Washington hopes that allowing Russia to export diesel will "soften" the Kremlin's position and demonstrate Trump's willingness to cooperate with Moscow. Ukrainian officials were skeptical of this idea.
Kushner again asked Kyiv to stop strikes on refineries. Trump claims they raise global fuel prices, although experts primarily link the increase to the war in Iran.
Under the terms of the deal, Russia will be able to supply over 2.25 million barrels of diesel to the American and global markets. However, experts doubt this will be enough for the US transportation sector even for a day.
Previous attempts by Washington to push the Kremlin toward peace β through easing sanctions and minerals deals β also did not lead to a comprehensive ceasefire.
According to Reuters, Putin wants to capture the remaining 11% of Donetsk region territory before returning to negotiations in order to present it as a victory within Russia.
The meeting also discussed security guarantees for Ukraine. However, the sides did not conclude any formal agreements.
βͺοΈOn October 11, the FT, citing European officials, reported that Witkoff and Kushner allegedly threatened to halt intelligence sharing over strikes on Russian refineries.
π§π¬Near Bulgaria, drones attacked two vessels: one sank, five sailors are receiving medical assistance, the country's Prime Minister Rumen Radev writes.
Three drones struck the deck and side of the vessel Chelsea 3, flying the flag of Malta, owned by a Ukrainian and registered in Odesa. It was located approximately 33 km off the coast of Bulgaria. All 15 crew members β seven Ukrainians and eight Azerbaijanis β reached the port of Varna. Five of them require medical assistance.
Another vessel was attacked 17 nautical miles from Cape Krapets. It sank; one sailor was rescued, and the fate of the rest of the crew is unknown.
Bulgaria currently has no evidence of who launched the drones, but Radev stated that the consequences of the attack benefit Russia. He plans to summon the Russian ambassador, and Bulgaria's representatives to NATO and the EU have already been informed of the incident.
βͺοΈThis is the second such incident in a week. On October 6, Russia attacked two commercial vessels in Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone with naval and aerial drones. One sank, 18 sailors from the other were rescued, and two more were injured.
β‘οΈ In Poland, two more suspects have been detained in the arson of a Starlink station. Among them is a woman who likely helped organize the sabotage and transported two previously detained Turkish citizens, RMF reports.
The woman was detained in Berlin during a separate anti-terrorist operation. Polish investigators are now determining her role in the arson and deciding whether to request her extradition.
A fourth person has also been detained in the case, but who this person is and what their involvement is has not yet been disclosed.
βͺοΈThe fire at the ground-based Starlink station in Wola Krobowska broke out on the evening of September 23. The station belongs to the state operator Exatel and is part of the infrastructure through which Poland transmits internet traffic to Ukraine. Two Turkish citizens suspected of the arson have already been detained by German police at Poland's request. According to the investigation, they may have acted in the interests of a foreign intelligence service. The case is being investigated as sabotage and a terrorist crime.
