My DS is desperate for the new swatch watch that David Cason has launched but you can only buy them in person in New York, I was all happy on the website going to buy it for a super early Christmas gift and then saw you can only buy them in person in NY.

bugger.

Otherwise I’m cashing in my airmiles and taking a trip in a few weeks.

OP, you may be underestimating how popular these special edition watches can be. When the planet ones came out ( you could only buy them in some cities, including London), they were constantly sold out. Like, instantly. I went about 3-4 times and could not get my hands on one.
But, if you go to NY chances are you’ll find something else amazing to get him if the watch doesn’t pan out

Not really - surely that means that the person who went out of her way completely wasted her time and was saddled with a bag she didn't even bloody want?!
I'd probably have been pissed off too, even if I probably hopefully could get it refunded!

More fool her for doing it to be honest.

That's why she was cross and started another thread! There was terrible weather in Aberdeen and she didn't think she could get to M&S before time ran out on the refund.

now that would be amazing, it’s a swatch, by David Carson and it’s here, I’d need to go in the laptop to DM I’m not sure if you can use that from a mobile app.

but just let me know if you have time and I will transfer you the cash, it’s £90 so not ridiculous money.

Never mind the watch ... can someone bring me back David Carson, please?

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 31/07/2026 13:49

I remember a post about a woman and her child who had stayed in a hotel and the child had left her favourite toy there and a mumsnetter who was close to said hotel went and got it and sent it to the little girl. I love stories like this. If I was going to NY I’d happily collect it. Sadly I’m not, but helping people is a nice thing to do. Hope your son gets his watch 😊

I remember that one! Can't quite remember how it all worked out though?! I just remember there was a massive fall out/ it all went tits up 😳😁
I'm always wary about things like this, and it's nice to see that people can be kind, but honestly I do think a lot are completely naive/too trusting on the internet.
I'm not saying OP isn't legit, but how do we know that? It's a massive risk to buy something for £90 to send to some random on the internet and hope they are genuine and that you get the money back.
Not to mention anything else that could go wrong.

It's not that much of a risk here as the OP has said she would send payment before the watch was mailed to her.

I hate it when people use "sadly" like this. It's not sad, you twit.
Your response is arrogant. Teacherly.

Agree. It’s the same when people start a response with ‘Kindly’ 🤮

Relaxd · 01/08/2026 01:07

It’s already sold out isn’t it?

TheSquareMile · 01/08/2026 08:41

OP, I wonder whether Swatch could advise on whether stock of this watch might be available through their UK arm at some point.

I think a lot of MN posters are such martyrs in life and would never dare ask for anything that they get incensed when they see someone do it and get an ordinary response from others willing to help.

Everyone take a breath and have a cup of tea please!

And OP please update us when you have the watch. I hope it works out!

Agree

so many people that won’t open the door; never lend anyone anything; refuse to offer or take a lift because and are just generally closed and miserable because they don’t want to be “beholden” or a “doormat”.

Meanwhile in the real world people are doing tiny little and great big things to help others. Sometimes people take advantage. In my experience most people do not.

But the idea of never helping anyone because you might end up a slight disadvantage is bizarre to me and I’m not even a particularly helpful person!

that’s before you even get into the why would you do anything nice for your own son comments

I hope it all works out OP and your son gets his watch. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
