What small things do your partners do that you appreciate most?

My husband is great in all the big and meaningful ways but I find it’s really small things that I appreciate the most. I noticed yesterday morning that the toothpaste had almost run out and made a mental note to buy some but was then in meetings all day and forgot. I went to brush my teeth last night and there was a new toothpaste. It’s the same with shower gel etc. I don’t know why I’m so impressed by it 😂 it’s just the not having to think I guess, not having to be the only one responsible for the little things that keep a household running. What little things do your partners do than you are excessively grateful for?

I work shifts. When I finish at 3am, he's left the side light on, drawn the curtains, put water out, and if its winter, will have put a hot water bottle in the bed for me (we sleep separately when I'm on a late shift as he'll be up early with DC)

Byron1990 · 29/07/2026 13:13

Oh this is lovely, just small things but just so evident of care and love!

He’s so caring when I have a migraine, always ready with an ice pack and medicine. I don’t even have to ask.

My husband ordered me a wireless keyboard and mouse as he knew the wires all over my desk were bothering me

WonsWoo · 29/07/2026 15:32

Mine has taken up 3d printing as a hobby and will sometimes appear with a figure of a character I like or useful a item that he thinks will make my life a little easier.

So far my favourites are a stand for my headphones and a magnetic phone charging stand for my desk. I'd never have thought of getting these items but he saw they would be useful so made them.

HeyBulldog · 29/07/2026 15:45

My husband keeps a list on his phone of things I’ve mentioned that I like throughout the year so I always get lovely gifts for Xmas and birthdays

CuriousKangaroo · 29/07/2026 15:53

Sorry OP, but the bar for men is incredibly low if a man buying toothpaste (which presumably he also uses) when it has run out is seen as an act of care. I mean it suggests that it’s a woman’s job to normally do it. I can’t imagine being grateful for something that it is surely a shared responsibility! I am sure he is lovely in many other ways too, but the toothpaste thing…hmmm.

The act of care I love from my DH, is that when I mention my period has started, he always gets me something sweet for my cravings and he often brings me a hot water bottle and some painkillers when we are going to bed, without me having to ask.

Dr13Hadley · 29/07/2026 16:01

This is quite a big thing really but my DH is taking the kids (2 x boys aged 9 and 12) for mini road trip tomorrow until Saturday lunchtime. He knows I struggle over the holidays. I have autism and adhd and sometimes just get overwhelmed. Particularly as I’m the default parent most of the time.

I’ll be at work tomorrow and Friday but will be able to come home and relax rather than immediately be on parent duty for a couple of nights. I can chill out with my kitties and read my book undisturbed!

This is massively helpful for me, besides the kids and DH enjoy going on adventures so we all win but I really do appreciate it.

Waitingfordoggo · 29/07/2026 16:04

Makes tea for me every morning, and offers me tea roughly every hour and a half whenever I’m home. I’m easily pleased and it makes me very happy.

He is also an excellent gift giver at Christmas and on birthdays. Like PP’s partner, he keeps a note on his phone of things I have admired or mentioned throughout the year.

stackhead · 29/07/2026 16:04

He gets up with the kids every morning as i'm rubbish in the morning and he's the type of person who jumps out of bed firing on all cylinders.

He also brings me a cup of tea in bed and keeps the kids away for 20 minutes while I defrost.

holidayhelpneeded1 · 29/07/2026 16:08

Honestly my Husband does a LOT but there are certain jobs I just dont even have to think about and I really appreciate it, like I joke that we have a rubbish and washing fairy as I dont even have to think about it, my bin is always emptied and the washing always done.

I am the person that organises in our house, my Husband and Daughter both are not very organised so ive naturally taken on that role but its nice when there are jobs that I just dont have to think about at all.

Byron1990 · 29/07/2026 18:07

See @CuriousKangaroo i thought this too, I don’t know why it made me so happy 😂 he is truly excellent, does way more than his fair share in every realm and like yours is always there with the support, actually knows better than I do when my period is and pops the bits on the shop. It just really affected me and I don’t know why!

I was really touched when one Christmas I had to get up very early for a long drive, and he set the heating to come on at 3am so I wouldn't get up in the cold.

Byron1990 · 29/07/2026 18:10

@Dr13Hadley thats lovely, I have two adventure mad boys too! I hope you enjoy your downtime

Coffee in bed every morning :)

Culpeper · 29/07/2026 18:12

I got into my car the other day and realised my husband had taken it to be valeted inside and out and there was a full tank of petrol.

Coffee in bed every morning :)

Snap! This is what I was going to say too.. it’s a lovely way to wake up isn’t it 😁 and also very sweet!

JugBouquet · 29/07/2026 19:21

I agree with @CuriousKangaroo — replacing toothpaste is just part of running a household. With DH I appreciate him leaving me strictly alone if I have a deadline, bringing me early morning coffee in bed, buying me specific fruit I love.

Simonjt · 29/07/2026 19:58

So much stuff, but he’s really good at helping me manage my diabetes, I only ever get a full nights sleep on the nights he gets up to see how I’m doing, and I feel so much better on those mornings for not being disturbed in the night.

Cremant · 29/07/2026 20:01

A cup of coffee every morning even though I’m up for work far earlier than he needs to be. He does it on holiday, too. My DH also pays my phone bill every month. It’s not a financial thing, I can easily cover it but he’s doing his anyway. Always appreciated

Givemethestrength · 29/07/2026 20:01

Hand washes my bras for me because the detergent irritates my skin 😂

Springbuck · 29/07/2026 20:40

He brings me a cup of tea in bed every morning. If I go away he always makes sure the bedsheets are clean when I return He will put the electric blanket on if it’s cold.
He does 99% of the cooking, and his fair share of other household tasks.
But what I love most is the zero fucks he gives about how much I spend on plants and the garden in general.
I do nice stuff as well, although admittedly not as much as he does.

JesseDavisGonnaHangOnInThereNSoul · 29/07/2026 20:45

My DW just for being herself despite her struggles with disability she tries to power on and always ready for a laugh.
