Are you a towel remover off sunlongers on holiday and how ?

I have had this problem with probably 95% hotels ive stayed in.
Ive stayed in 5 4 3 before . Last holiday in August in turkey was a 5 and everyday I got up early , had breakfast , THEN went to find a sunlounger and all of the sunloungers had towels and only a few in the pool. All of the hoggers were towels around the perimeter of the pool .
I complained and it fell on deaf ears, always does it even has signs around the pool saying if the beds are not taken within 1/2 hour, towels will be removed .
This never happened so Im relegated to the back .
I noticed one family had towels on 8 of the beds , same spot, inflatables on the beds and chairs ?? even . They disappeared until after lunch to use the beds they'd saved. This was a 5*
Im sick of it and shouldn't be allowed.

I go away around 3 times a year and this happens 95% of the time .
I dont want to join in with the selfishness and one if my friends says she removes the towels and leaves in a pile if they have been gone for more than 2 hours .
But how ? Do you just remove the towels of the beds you want or all of the towels? Im guessing if I.just removed one towel to claim the bed they'd know it was me if the others still are empty but with towels on still .
Im going away in 3 weeks and again 2 weeks after that and this shouldn't be something that constantly puts a dampener on my holiday.

You don't need to guard them if you're using them do you. Use them or leave the them alone.

But how do you know the towel doesn’t belong to someone currently in the pool ? Where else are you supposed to put your stuff while you’re in the pool?

No, I want a world where a lounger is either in use or not, not hogged.

I stayed at a hotel recently, and my favourite part was how quickly the loungers changed over. You could always find two as people came and used them and then packed up and left for lunch etc, so it was just people coming and going all day and enough loungers for that. There wouldn’t have been enough if everyone bagsied them at 7am and left their stuff there until 7pm.

Haha that’s what I did only a few years ago and I am quite old 😂

As long as there's a sign saying there's no reserving loungers I fold the towels and stack them on the wall.

@Ooofbananas either they are swimming in the pool and therefore don't need a lounger because they are actually in the pool
Or they are popping in and out of the pool so they have their stuff, sunglasses, maybe a book, a crumpled damp towel and the lounger is clearly in use.

You do not need one lounger per person in your group when they are rotating being in the pool or drying off. If someone's in with the children, they can have your lounger when it's your turn to supervise.

Usually if it’s someone in the pool they’ll be shoes/flip flops and various other things on the beds too. Suncream, t-shirt, drinks, books….

the reservers will normally just leave very neat towels and that’s it

I have a friend who just moves the towels off, when the person comes to confront them she just says “you aren’t allowed to reserve sunloungers” and points to the sign. And continues to say this until they go away. I don’t know how she has the guts but I love her for this!

I just put the towels on the other beds they’ve saved or on a spot nearby like a wall. Nobody has ever confronted me about it, I think most people know that would be unreasonable.

We went somewhere like this last year, sometimes towels were out all day- no people? I mean where were they lol

We do stay around the pool literally all day- 8am -6pm (aside from lunch). I’m the end I got up at 3am (because I’m peri and awake anyway). The only time I’ve done it, but there were a lack of sunbeds and we are around that bloody pool all bloody day. There are three of us but only ever hogged 1 bed, which is really for me as DD and DH are pool bound.

This doesn’t bother me, I tend to go to places where irs not really an issue, but we do place our towels about 9, go for breakfast and come back.

i think it’s up to staff to move towels not guests. For the simple reason I saw a comedy play out on a holiday a while ago.

a family had been on their loungers all morning, they then went to lunch, another family came along. Loitered for ages, then removed their towels and belongings , and as they were mid shoving them away, the original family came back

fireworks ensued , it was real pop corn at the ready stuff. The second family should have apologised and slunk away, they were out of line, except they didn’t, they remonstrated they’d been gone so they’d lost the right to the beds, which they had not.

after some arguments, whuch were heated, the first family put their stuff back on the beds and got back on them. At which point the second family laid their towels out and laid on the ground right next to them. Either side. Right up next to them, like they couldn’t get off their beds without stepping on them. The kids sat in front of them. It was so so awkward. I was watching with my cocktail highly amused.

and that’s the issue, unless you’ve been watching for ages, you don’t know who is actually taking the piss and who has just went for lunch or brekkie. And you might be mid removing them when they come back snd find yourself in a situation that’s really unpleasant.snd you’re the unreasonable one.

overall staff need to manage this, but they don’t as they need to sit and time each one and often there are so many beds it’s difficult.

I’ve only seem one resort do it. The staff took their stuff back to the towel hut. And that also caused so much stress for the staff as guests went nuts.

I think that’s a bit much, you can’t say people lose their sunbeds if they go for a swim and need to rotate that’s ridiculous

I’ve never seen it in any of the 5* I’ve stayed in, it just hasn’t been an issue and staff will find extra beds for you if needed.

But what rating are the hotels you're staying in? It isn't clear from your post.

We only really stay in 5 stars on holiday and there are usually enough sunbeds. We tend to put our towels out at or just after breakfast at around 9am - but even if we’ve gone out for the morning there are spots as people vacate.
We would leave stuff if popping up to the room or getting lunch though.

Did you get a sunbed? Just not by the front of the pool

There’s a difference between loungers with just a dry towel folded or laid on it, and ones with towels, a bag, sunglasses, book, drink etc on and next to them.

If I’ve got a lounger and go for a swim my stuff will be left on and around the lounger. I’d be raging if someone chucked it all off.

Loungers with literally just a dry towel on? Fair game. Move it and take ownership!

One hotel we stayed at (years ago) allocated numbered sunbeds at check-in

I hate this practice. But I hate confrontation too!

Just move them off one or two beds. If they haven't been around for hours they know they are being CF and won't say anything.

Exactly.But you cant always get what you want ( just ask the people coming along. Looking for a sunbed after 7am!)

I don’t think they were in the wrong whatsoever. If you want to go to a different part of the hotel to get your breakfast or lunch take your stuff with you or expect it to be moved.

Charging is the only way forward.

I’ve done this and shrug my shoulders when confronted.
