Are you a towel remover off sunlongers on holiday and how ?

I have had this problem with probably 95% hotels ive stayed in.
Ive stayed in 5 4 3 before . Last holiday in August in turkey was a 5 and everyday I got up early , had breakfast , THEN went to find a sunlounger and all of the sunloungers had towels and only a few in the pool. All of the hoggers were towels around the perimeter of the pool .
I complained and it fell on deaf ears, always does it even has signs around the pool saying if the beds are not taken within 1/2 hour, towels will be removed .
This never happened so Im relegated to the back .
I noticed one family had towels on 8 of the beds , same spot, inflatables on the beds and chairs ?? even . They disappeared until after lunch to use the beds they'd saved. This was a 5*
Im sick of it and shouldn't be allowed.

I go away around 3 times a year and this happens 95% of the time .
I dont want to join in with the selfishness and one if my friends says she removes the towels and leaves in a pile if they have been gone for more than 2 hours .
But how ? Do you just remove the towels of the beds you want or all of the towels? Im guessing if I.just removed one towel to claim the bed they'd know it was me if the others still are empty but with towels on still .
Im going away in 3 weeks and again 2 weeks after that and this shouldn't be something that constantly puts a dampener on my holiday.
Are you a towel remover , how do you do it without looking like an arsehole or getting into a row with people or do you just own it?

I look at reviews and only go to places that have sufficient loungers.

Does the hotel has a policy?

We only stay at hotels with a policy on sunbeds.

Can you ask a member of staff to remove it?

Just remove them and stack them on one bed. If the people come back say that the lifeguards did, if you feel uncomfortable with conflict, because there were no beds and they had were clearly not at the pool. For what it's worth whenever I've done this the people haven't actually come back whilst I was there or if they have they haven't said anything. If they think you are unreasonable they've got a bloody nerve.

We’re going back to a place in France this year that we went to the first time a couple of years ago. There’s lots of lovely things about it, but one thing I really love is that at around 1pm, they sound an alarm. If you’re not sitting on your lounger within ten minutes, they remove your towel. It’s so bloody satisfying watching pick up loads of towels that get dumped in a pile by the lifeguard hut. It’s even more satisfying seeing people pootle back in ages later and looking really confused about where their towels have gone…!

I just move one off the one I want . Sometimes move the bed too . Usually I am finished with it as don't lie out for hours . Never been challenged except for a puzzled look . Would probably calmly say that I needed one . My great answer to anyone trying to talk to me is just to say Sush every time they do . Try it it works amazingly well. But for all my bravery if it's a drunky or rough looking gang I would just leave . Thankfully I can afford to not go to those kinds of places .

I like reserving beds, but we always take ownership of them by 10am. Why shouldn’t Mr early rising and personal organization be rewarded? Otherwise you’d have a hotel of ppl on subbed by 7am 😂

That’s ridiculous doing it at bloody lunchtime though! People are allowed lunch

I think an hour is the absolute maximum time it’s acceptable to have stuff on a lounger and not use it for. Putting towels/stuff on loungers and then heading off for breakfast is shitty behaviour, same for lunch. It hasn’t been an issue for us so far but if it was I’d either ask a member of staff, or if they wouldn’t help I’d just remove the items and pile them neatly by the towel hut or somewhere else official looking.

I’d just remove your stuff. Totally unreasonable to attempt to reserve a bed you’re not using for multiple hours.

But if everybody was fair and didn’t hog the beds there would always be enough when people came back from lunch.

Totally agree! if someone hasn't been back in an hour or more I remove the towels and take the bed. If they come back and ask I just give a vague "oh really? there werent any towels on it when I arrived- I guess someone must have moved them!" Then they cant have a go because it could have been someone prior to me and they cant ask for the bed back because I am on it.

People shouldnt be leaving their towels and then disappearing for hours and hours anyway, if you arent using it then let someone else. Selfish fuckwits.

I just remove them and fold them in a pile next to the lounger. Once some woman got aggy with me over it, but I’m a recovering chav so thrive on conflict 🤷‍♀️. At least I folded them, I did her a favour.

Its not practical to put a towel on something and claim it as yours for hours and hours when people who need to use it cant.

Yes, a world where people arent selfish dicks is far preferable.

No guarding needed, just use it if you’re using it and if you aren’t then leave it free for someone else until you need one. It’s simple manners.

I remove them. I'm a terribly unassertive people pleaser generally. But the sheer unreasonableness of this, and the fact that hotels etc don't deal with it properly, trips my overload switch and I go straight into white hot (but polite) rage.

I don’t see the issue with going for breakfast. I tend to come down early and sit and read for an hour or so while it is nice and quiet before going for a late breakfast. I don’t see an issue with that. It is no different to popping for lunch. We are never gone for long and as soon as we have eaten we head back.

Three weeks ago we were in a 5 start resort, when we got back from our day out we went to the pool. There was hardly anyone there but all the sun beds had towels on them. I just asked one of the attendants if he could give me a sun bed as I assume he would know the ones that were likely available. He did without hassle - so that can be an option too.

The best is the Maldives with your own personal sunbed and villa pool but sadly I can't always afford that! Perhaps I need to find my inner chav (thanks @GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf!)

No, In an ideal world people potter about and go and use loungers for a few hours here and there in between doing activities, going in the sea, visiting the restaurant and back to their rooms etc. rather than leaving towels on them half the day when they’re not using them.
If everyone did this then they would be free most of the time as and when folk want to use them.

Normally yes there are policies but are never followed through. Day 3 of my holiday last year and I couldn't get anywhere near the front of the pool. The staff just shrugged as if it wasn't their concern or just didnt care when I complained

The issue is you are hogging beds when you’re not using them and stopping other people who want to sit there and use them from doing so. The issue is the same whether it’s breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea or a midnight snack. If everyone takes their stuff when they’re not using the beds then there would be enough for everyone.

I’ve found the bed hoggers never just “pop” for a quick lunch either, it’s always multiple hours because they’re entitled people who have little regard for others.
