Do you ever wear your wedding dress again?

I've been married for 17 years, and I've worn mine again only three times. Once because I wanted to see myself in it again, once for my husband, and once for a photoshoot.

I'm curious has anyone else worn their wedding dress again after the big day, or has it been stored away forever?

Mine has no chance of fitting me again but my dd tried it on the other day.

A friend of mine had a party for her tenth wedding anniversary and the dress code was to wear your wedding dress! That was great fun.

I stored mine otherwise but eventually got fed up of the space it took up and donated it. That was after Dh died though.

Im getting married again and am wearing a designer dress not a wedding dress per se. I’d like to wear that again, but it will have to be a fairly big do. I vaguely have in mind it might work as a Mother of the Groom dress if ds doesn’t mind.

Sorry for your loss. I was wondering, is there a social stigma around women wearing a wedding dress for a second marriage? Like, do people say things such as, “Oh, she's already married” or “She has kids now”

Have you ever faced any comments or judgment about it, or was choosing a designer wedding dress purely your own decision?

Mine got sent to the charity shop the week after the wedding. It wasn’t an expensive one.

my sister still has her very 80s full meringue dress under her bed. Her 30 year old daughter shows no sign of marriage!

my mum kept her beautiful 1950s dress for years, me and my sister would try it on occasionally. It ha£ disappeared by the time I got married though. And I doubt I’d have fitted into it.

if I got married again I’d either wear jeans or something I could wear again to a posh do. It seems ridiculous to spend £1000s on a dress to wear once….

Yes. Dressed as Little Beau Peep in our local carnival!
It was an 1980s dress, cream satin with beautiful lace and peach ribbons. In my defense I got married with 10 days notice and it was the first dress I tried on and very cheap.
I then chopped it up to make tiny dolls dresses and pram quilts for my DD.

I was open to finding a wedding dress as opposed to a glam dress, but although I’d booked an appointment to see some wedding dresses I found my designer dress first and lost interest once I’d done so.

Is there a stigma? Not exactly. I’m in a ‘mature brides’ Facebook group 🙄 and every post of someone my age in a wedding gown says ‘have the dress of your dreams ladies!’ Which always does suggest that there is a slight discomfort with the idea of going full princess for a second marriage/older age, even though lots decide to do so.

I will admit that for me, I kind of wanted to lean heavily on sophistication and liberty as the vibe rather than Beautiful Bride TM. But then for my first marriage I wore a blue velvet trouser suit, as I wasnt entirely comfortable with trying to look like a bride then either. Tbh it says a lot for my second husband that he made me feel so comfortable going for a full ticket wedding dress, it was beautiful.

My DD also wants to try it, she is 14 soo let her Wait for another 2 years

I guess I’m saying that the stigma exists mainly in the brides’ heads, I don’t think a guest at a wedding thinks much about it. The sort of guest that you can imagine making catty remarks about your dress choice should be off the list.

I have never worn my wedding dress again. I have also been a bridesmaids five times and I have never worn those dresses again either. I still have my wedding dress but finally got rid of the bridesmaids dresses a couple of years ago.

I bought a beautiful Escada trouser suit (registry office) and despite intending to, have never worn it again. I really regret getting a trouser suit as it was
my one chance to wear a wedding dress and I didn’t take it because I thought I’d get more VFM from the suit. I was wrong!

Yes, I wear it sometimes but it’s a 50’s style white cotton broiderie dress. I wear it on holiday, on a country walk, special days out etc.

No, which is why I hired instead of bought mine (plus it was cheaper).

No. Mine isn’t obviously a wedding dress, it is just a nice knee length white dress, so I could have worn it again, but when I’m going somewhere that warrants wearing a nice dress I generally prefer to buy something new for it.

I used to wear my wedding dress regularly. It was a grey and purple Indian cotton print dress and was perfect for special evenings out. I’ve not worn it for years but having read this thread, I may dig it out and see if it still fits.

I have always worn the same beautiful suit to all my weddings. Although it does not seem as bigly as it was.

I always apply a new coat of Nars Taj Mahal blusher for the photos afterwards, as the contrast with 'Old Faithful' - my blue suit -makes me look younger and detracts from the frayed cuffs and non-meeting buttons.
(I get lots of comments of how I look.)

Ive never worn mine again. I was tiny at my wedding - I was 26!

I sometimes try mine on just to check I can still get into it.

No. Sold it in eBay

Wore mine as a nightie (it was a bias crepe strappy dress from M&S) then when it got a tear in the hem, cut that part off and it's now a camisole top, not bad for 25 years!

I lent mine to two other family members, then sold it.
