Really struggling to manage now. Anyone else?

Nights are still over 70. If I knew it would be easier in 6 weeks I’ll just suspend life till then, rebook appts etc.

I’m ill - GP lost tests twice so no treatment yet - not eating, no appetite cos heat and getting weaker as the weeks pass. Can’t go out for exercise as it’s over 90 here in the day, falling asleep a lot.

How long is the heat due to last?

I bloody hope so. I'm sick of it. It cools down to a pleasant, comfortable 23/24 degrees for a few days and then it's off again, climbing up to 30 and above. I just wish it would fuck off. I'm dreading August because my past experiences are that it's even worse than June or July. I'm on medication that makes it difficult for me to cool down, and I feel like my life has been on hold for the last 2 months. I've had to cancel 2 physiotherapy appointments (both on days that hit 37 degrees),a doctor's appointment,a dentist appointment and a meal out for my daughter's birthday because of the heat. I have to travel to medical appointments by bus and they are absolutely unbearable in the heat, usually about 4 or 5 degrees hotter than outside. September and the hopefully cooler weather can't come soon enough!

Yeh I'm done now. I'm not usually a summer person but I've been quite good at shutting windows and blinds, using cooling towels etc so far. I'm happy to still get strong sunshine I'd just like to not be so sweaty.

Do you have health conditions that make it harder for you to regulate your temperature?

It so has! 72F as I type.

Ive never been a fan of summer i love winter and all the weather mumnet hates.
But i did have A/C fitted a few years back life saver.
This hot weather makes me ill and my migraines are worse, my skin is worse.

It has been much cooler here in the (Downing St) North!. Low 20s during the day and cooler at night.

Why are you using Farenheit? Britain uses centigrade. My parents in their 80s don't even use farenheit anymore.

I'm also in London and I've not even had the fans on yet since the last time we had 30c (which was over a week ago). We're 28c and sunny today which is my tipping point but it's lovely and cool at the minute.

Are you in a position to get a portable air-con unit to keep one room cool? Do you have fans? Have you tried other methods to keep cool like cold showers, damping a muslin and popping it in the freezer? Make sure you have lots of fluids and even if you don't fancy full on meals try to snack regularly.

We'll soon be moaning about it being cold but its been a rotten time for anyone who struggles with the heat. And now we're under a hosepipe ban too!!

How old are you? Because honestly being that badly affected by heat is a bit concerning.

I am a lot younger than your parents and still use Fahrenheit. I read the forecast in centigrade but then convert . I think it’s because growing up the papers always had ‘it will be reaching 90 today’ type headlines, so how warm weather feels to me, is understood in Fahrenheit. If someone says it is 85 today I know what that feels like.
Ditto inches and cm. I know my size in inches, my weight in stones and pounds.

Really? I’m 45 and struggled badly from my early 30s. Can’t cope with anything over 23 at all. Lots of health conditions make regulating body temperature harder, like hyper mobility.
Op it’s 17 where I am in Scotland but wind making it feel 13 but I am enjoying the fresh air. You have my sympathies

Yeah in the 90s on holiday every one would say it’s over 100 and I would know that was hot

I'm afraid to say, I think it'll get worse before it gets better - next week looks hot again. However, September will definitely definitely be cooler. Autumn always comes and by November we will be moaning it's cold and wet. That's the joy of seasons, they always change. Just do what you can to rest and stay cool, hydrate, put life on hold if you need to, or look at getting away for a few nights (Iceland or the Highlands will be cooler right now). It'll pass and then we will all be absolutely floored by wet, wind and snow.

@Supersimkin7 cold head (wet towel), cold feet (ice in a bowl). Curtains and windows closed 10 until the temps cool. Open when the temps drop. Put fans in front of them. In your bedroom, windows and curtains open, lights out. Get your jobs done by 10am.

Is your thyroid optimally medicated; would propranolol help?

On the hottest days, I've gone to the air condotioned shopping centre, or the supermarket.

@Ireallywantadoughnut36 we have not had snow in my county since 2018, last winter I can count about five frosts.

Hi op. I live rurally by a river in a southern county.

I can report that on weds morning we had thick mist on the river and down the valley.

Usually the first harbinger of Autumn.

I’m in Scotland and would kill for some of your heat, was 13 degrees this morning. Feeling it even more as came back from Greece in Thursday where it was 34 😂

How arrogant. You don’t speak for everyone in the UK and most of us are intelligent enough to switch quite happily between Fahrenheit and Celsius (certainly approximately).

I think, @Supersimkin7 , the relentlessness of these endless hot/very hot/heatwave days, weeks and months is getting most of us down (in London, anyway). It just never bloody ends.

I'm with you. I still use imperial measures, apart from when cooking. My choice and it doesn't affect anyone else. I'm definitely cooking at the moment.
