This is truly terrifying though not surprising .

Diary of a CEO , Steve Bartletts podcast is full of shit. It’s all clickbait junk. Do yourself a favour and keep far away from it

Correct.

He’s a grifter.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/07/2026 00:43

@CormorantWings can you at least tell us what's been said that has worried you?

I doubt anyone is going to just listen to a podcast without any information.

WhatNextImScared · 25/07/2026 00:52

I think maybe OP is a member of Bartlett’s production team 😂

Darragon · 25/07/2026 01:09

Yeah I’m not listening to a long podcast from a known misinformation sharer to find out what some random on mn is upset about. 🤔

PollysKenwood · 25/07/2026 01:29

I can’t take much seriously about AI fears. Maybe everything is going to go to shit but if so, why are we trying to embed it into all levels of government, businesses etc. it’s the usual inconsistent crap, I have no idea what to think so my conclusion is “fuck it”.

Why?

Okay. Rude and dismissive in the worst MN style. Why don't you try explaining why he is known for peddling misinformation? I was sent the podcast link by someone I know. It worried me. No need to be so rude and unpleasant .

LittleEsme · 25/07/2026 07:13

Could you please at least explain or summarise the podcast so that we can respond to what you are concerned about?

Luckydog7 · 25/07/2026 07:26

I used to listen to these and found a couple interesting until I clocked what was happening.

He gets the real outliers. The people with very strong opinions (crack pots with a book to sell) and then basically let's them talk without really much intelligent challenging at all.

Some AI fears are genuine but you can't forget these will be quite extreme views and AI isn't going unchallenged even now.

On a personal note my concerns about AI have dropped considerably recently. I work in design and all I can do it laugh as AI is giving me MORE work rather then less as lazy people are using it for short cuts and no noticing the errors.

It's just a podcast of interesting and thought provoking discussions on a variety of topics relevant to our time. You can choose to believe or not believe what you hear. Agree with them or disagree. Totally up to you. All of his guests seem to have a relatively good understanding of what they are talking about as far as I can tell.

Which is his guests' opinions has particularly rubbed you up the wrong way then?

It would have helped if you'd explained what you're worried about rather than just linking to a podcast by a controversial figure.

But can you please tell us why you are worried? A lot of people are worried about AI.

It doesn't mean that we want to listen to a very long podcast to find out what you mean! I'm not a mind reader.

EmeraldRoulette · 25/07/2026 13:20

I just realised AI can answer my question 😂

Looks like he interviewed Daniel Kokotajlo and got the usual "end of human civilisation" stuff

It's the bread and butter of things like data centres being built all over the shop that worries me.

gatheringpace · 26/07/2026 17:01

AI is dangerous. It’s a hugely accelerated programme - cutting corners on safety to get it as widespread and ingrained in society and everyday life as much as possible as fast as they can.

The elite need a passive workforce with no needs. Don’t be sold the dream of a society where AI does the work and we can sit back with our UBI and relax . That’s not what it’s for. The population will be massively reduced. AI will be more entitled to water than people. Only the super rich will benefit ultimately.
The fires from climate change will
clear the green spaces for more data centres.

It’s moving too fast for anyone to do anything to stop it. I think some people are aware but already even things like chat gpt are seen as essential to some. We will benefit for a short time in small ways then it will suddenly be too late

AI is completely controlled by humans. You don’t need to fear AI, and never have. Just as you don’t wed to fear the Nuclear button.

this sort of scaremongering is outdated and more often than not, ridiculous.

OpenAI recently found its way out of a sandbox. We are not in control of AI at all, we think we are and it may even be that AI is already aware of that and deliberately fostering our naivety for its own interests.

IHaveTraumaFromAlfredHitchcocksTheBirds · Yesterday 15:43

I would rather listen to someone fart down a microphone for an hour than listen to his podcast, it would be more informative too.

Cheesandcrackers · Yesterday 15:51

AI in itself looks like a typical over promise and under deliver. It's not capable of replacing workers at scale as it's just not trustworthy. The main issue is AI data centre expenditure (lots) relative to AI company income (not lots). This is a repeat of the dot com bubble with a good dose of Financial Crisis thrown in.

CormorantWings · 26/07/2026 19:08

Exactly this.

Do you really believe that wildfires are deliberate to pave the way for data centres?

Do you really believe humans will have limited water because data centres’ water use will be prioritised?

Do you really believe the population will be reduced massively?

Really?

Guessing you also think COVID was a hoax in order to inject a chip into every person in the world?

No, I think the fires will ultimately prove convenient. Yes I do think eventually that the population will be reduced significantly and the elite will have a huge non human workforce.

I don’t think Covid was a hoax, I’m not anti vax either etc etc.

And AI is going to be driving the population reduction is it?

And who in their right mind would build a data centre in the remains of a burnt down forest, away from any water or infrastructure.
