Temps in Lucerne next week

I'm looking at meteo weather and it's says 26 ISH up to 33 by Thursday , however BBC and others has it at 35.

Does anyone who lives there have any insider intelligence please.

I've just had to cancel another leg of my trip in Germany due to 38 temps.

No forecast is going to be 100% accurate 6/7 in advance.

Meteo says 33 by Thursday we have cancelled our French and German leg and I also have an infection /on antibiotics now. .I have two children who want to go away im doing my best in an unprecented heat wave ,flight cancellations and possibly the worst most stressful holiday I've ever booked. 😂

And going to places that don't do proper air con !!
If it was states who carea ! Solid dependable air con /pools etc

Honestly just go with it! Check the weather on the day and decide where to go. It won’t feel hot if you go up in altitude even just a little and there are plenty of lakes and pools to cool off in.

We are going but the issue now is we have to find any extra night in Lucerne and again can't decide where to stay because the last night will be the worse. Also need to plan when go up to the snow etc

Why do you need another night? Go to a resort instead?

Book somewhere with aircon. Business type hotels, American brands and airport hotels tend to be more reliable at effective aircon. I’ve just done a European tour type holiday and found aircon rooms everywhere though you have to be flexible on location

Maximum may be 33 but it really won’t be by or on the lake or up a mountain. It can change really quickly. And bear in mind buildings are constructed to cope with extremes of temperature, air con or not.

@hahabahbag finding decent Aircon has been the biggest issue. Loads of people complaining about heat and air con not working etc. the one hotel that had solid air con review is just to expensive.

What's a resort ?

We were three nights in Lucerne and becsuee we have cancelled the German leg we are not doing colmar now and it's 38 there so we need an extra night in kucnerbe because our hotel is full.

We are leaving Thursdays

A ski/summer resort, at higher altitude so cooler and local activities for your dc. Lucerne is at relatively low altitude. Or stay in Basel, Bern or Zurich overnight where you are more likely to find ac.

Also need to plan when go up to the snow etc

Mount Titlus

Check what is open up there, not sure if tubing is operating for example. The snowline is pretty high in summer, even without a heatwave, so not much snow around unless you head to a glacier such as Jungfraujoch or Titlis.

I don't live there but visit the French part regularly. Météo Suisse is pretty reliable for Swiss weather but the weather can change quickly in mountainous areas. Here is their English language page for Lucerne www.meteoswiss.admin.ch/local-forecasts/lucerne/6003.html#forecast-tab=detail-view I would trust that over BBC and Met office weather forecasts for overseas destinations as they're not great. By the lake should be lovely and you can paddle or swim. Bear in mind that continental Europe is used to hot weather and a lot of their infrastructure is better designed to cope. Spend time in air-conditioning cafes, museums, get the train somewhere at a higher altitude. The heatwave warnings I've seen are based on altitude.

38 abroad is completely different than 38c in the uk!!
it’s a totally different heat, it’s bearable abroad

I would love to see bern it's an hour away from Lucerne and not to far from Basel for our flight home . That's a good shout ..
Are the roads decent to get there ?

The roads are fine, I’m really not sure what you are expecting. I thought you were heading over the Brunig pass to Interlaken anyway.

I’m writing from Switzerland - Bern is a wonderful stop particularly for floating in the river. Do as the locals do and pack your gear in a dry bag, and let the current take you. It’s very popular and people do this as part of their daily commute in good weather.

Driving in Switzerland is incredibly easy - everything is extremely well sign posted, you won’t have any trouble.

I highly recommend saving some mountain time for the village of Wengen. It’s very charming, will be much cooler, there are many many walks where you can plunge into cool fresh waterfalls, and there’s a fantastic heritage listed 1930s designed public pool to enjoy your mountain views and get surprisingly fantastic dinner.

@Calmondeck it's time ,everything has gone wrong with this trip we are originally suppsed do start in Lucerne then base ourselves in intelaken and easy jet cancelled flights etc. .
My last night the next day we have to get back to basel for a two flight

@Calmondeck id I could stay the last night in Lucerne but use that last day to try and get to wengen or Grindelwald etc by car or train

It’s going to be 35 in London next week too so no point in cancelling?

With our extra day should we do engelberg Titlus or get in antrain to grindewald
