When did you know you were pretty, intelligent or talented?

Just that really.

I knew I was smart when we started doing basic arithmetic at school. I flew through everything so quickly compared to everyone else.

I look forward to part 2 of this post "when did you know you lacked social skills?"

Always.

AgnesMcDoo · 22/07/2026 18:54

From my very first moments of awareness.

I’m modest too.

I held up my diploma during my mother's ultrasound scan.

I miss the laugh react SO much! 🤣🤣

rollonxmas · 22/07/2026 19:01

Ok. Fair enough. This hasn’t landed how I meant. I’m not talented or pretty but knew I was smart so had that. Was curious as to when people who are those other things realised it, if ever.

I was aware from about the age of 6 that I was NOT pretty. Even little girls can be quite bitchy and cliquey.

I was probably aware by about 10 that I was quite bright and that I found school work easy enough.

I'd still rather have been pretty.

roseymoira · 22/07/2026 19:03

Still waiting to find out - fingers crossed

menopausalfart · 22/07/2026 19:06

When I stopped waiting for other people to confirm it.

Prettiness always fades, whereas intelligence remains and continues to enhance your life.

UnaGatita · 22/07/2026 19:10

When I had to recite the alphabet backwards before I could go and wash my hands before lunch and everyone else was working on A-M…
I also knew at that age I was not pretty, my body was different and I didn’t really like children very much. I was 5.

Overtheatlantic · 22/07/2026 19:11

I knew I was clever until the ADHD really kicked in at around 15; I didn’t know what hit me and why school was so much harder. Pretty? Earlier but only In the right lighting.

Weeellokthen · 22/07/2026 19:11

When I was 3 and I could tick all 3 boxes 😜

Minasama · 22/07/2026 19:12

I was put on the advanced Kevin the Kitten books (small type) in reception because I could read aged 3.

However I always felt like I wasn’t much good at anything - it took success and reaching a C-level position at work in my 50s before I thought “actually I’m good at this and I add a lot AND I’ve done it alongside having two children.” Recently I saw the GCSE results from my school and I had come second in a 180-strong cohort (of girls, so higher results) and I thought - actually, that was pretty amazing. I don’t think I ever registered that I’d ranked so highly. We didn’t have a lot of money growing up and I went to a comprehensive where they liked to bat you down.

Smart? In school

pretty and talented? Never 😂

and despite being top of the class in school I have amounted to nothing

DilemmaDelilah · 22/07/2026 20:52

I think I always knew I was quite bright. I'm not sure I ever knew I was pretty, although looking back I wasn't bad looking at all when I was younger.

I have always known I lack social skills 😁

TheBlueKoala · 22/07/2026 20:57

How about strong @rollonxmas ? My parents were feminists so never told me I was pretty. They did tell me I was smart and strong though. Due to mh I haven't been able to use my intelligence in a constructive way but I'm still very strong.

Octavia64 · 22/07/2026 20:58

I’m not pretty.

I never wanted to be but I did want to be good at football (I’m not).

PermanentTemporary · 22/07/2026 20:58

Just intelligent and privileged/well supported enough to be interested in and get to places full of smart or talented people, well below average once I get there, so never felt particularly high end in any of these things.

Whatdidyoujustcallme · 22/07/2026 21:04

For any of them only by looking back…

physical appearance around age 35 and further looking back at photos
Smart only by comparing my accomplishments against my school contemporaries…and only those I know of…not many

I’ve been lucky and had an exciting and international career before kids, but only know it was that through other people’s reactions when I tell them.

in my head I’m still the idiot, skeletor inept not quite good enough…
