Graduation Jellycat Bunny Emergency

Piknik · 21/07/2026 20:01

I don't have TikTok, I don't know anything about the importance of Jellycats - I am out of the loop on these sorts of trends and think all a bit sillly and a con but DS has just told me that all DDs friends will have the new Graduaction Jellycat Bunny and DD (who loves stuff like this) will be really sad if she doesn't.

So putting aside my thoughts on the matter I have been trying to find one and they are sold out everywhere. The ones on Ebay are cheaper than the real thing so clearly fake. Can anyone help me? To be fair, DD doesn't ask for much and there is no big 'gift' coming her way so I'd really like to find one if there is any chance.

ANY ideas, suggestions, links really welcome. She graduates on Friday..... yikes.

Glad you managed to get one OP!

Not sure why people have to put down other people’s hobbies/joy/whimsy just because it doesn’t align with their own.

Some Mumsnetters would be clutching their pearls at the thought of this 33 year old mother of one still loving anime, going to see MCR and singing every song, owning Jellycats (I recently bought the fat pigeon from Selfridges because…. It’s a fat soft pigeon and brings me joy) and loves playing videos games of all things.

"Everyone who sees it is jealous." 🤣 It's sweet how well you think of Barry!

My animals don't sit at the dining table, but they do like a bit of TV....

Must admit I don't have many people in my house so "everyone" may sound like more people than it really is 😁

Bunny has arrived!!!! 🎉 Thank you to everyone who linked me to UTILITY.

DD was ridiculously happy as she didn't think I'd ordered one (which, as we all know, is true!). It won't be sitting on a shelf or being posed on TikTok for those who said that it was a status symbol, she has given Bunny a big cuddle, told her she is on her way to Manchester and put her in her overnight bag.

Honestly the spiteful comments on here are next level:

"But I’d be alarmed if she wanted to hold one on stage while receiving her degree certificate "

Alarmed? Really?

"It does go some way to explaining why graduates are the way they are"

WTF does that even mean?

DD has worked in pubs, bars and all sorts since she was 15. She is one of the smartest, most resilient and determined people I know, and has just earned a First Class science degree. How you can judge her for wanting a particular soft toy is wild.

But judge away because we don't care. We have Bunny and we are going to watch our DD make us very proud tomorrow.

Thank you again to all the LOVELY people who helped me track one down.

Edited

Ah that’s made me smile 🥰

Yes alarmed. Really.

I'm glad she got her bunny. A pp said some people were clutching them on the stage at a graduation she went to. If no additional needs, then I would be a bit alarmed that fully grown adults felt the need to clutch a soft toy on a stage.

I understand as a token gift though. I don’t think it’s next level to be shocked by adults clutching cuddly toys on the stage. Worrying if people just think that’s totally normal adult behaviour.

Piknik · 23/07/2026 17:10

@Watchoutfortheslowaraf Gosh really? I am not alarmed. Not remotely. She doesn't need to 'clutch it on stage'. It is not a service animal or an emotional support dog, it's something that my soft-hearted dd felt sentimental about and wanted.

I am alarmed by knife crime and worry every time my 19 year old son is out in his Uni city of Nottingham. I am alarmed by the cost of living crisis. I am alarmed by the rise in far right and far left rhetoric. I am actually alarmed by lots of things, but luckily for me, not this. If this truly alarms you, I envy your blessed existence.

I'd assume they'd just been given it and had nowhere to put it, the same as if they were clutching a bouquet or any other token gift.

I'd save being shocked for if they were carrying a sex toy or a weapon.

Well done OP!
DD graduated on Saturday. I too had never heard of the bloody Jellycat rabbit; thankfully her boyfriend had and one had been ordered. He’s clearly a keeper.
We had had many conversations about what did she want on the day; we fell down on flowers. Because I’d said ‘do you want flowers’ and she’d said ‘no’; but apparently that was a joke and she’d have liked some. She didn’t bring it up and wasn’t rude (before I’m told she should be removed from my home and sent to work down a pit for her entitled behaviour) but when we were queuing to get in and I said something about people having flowers she said she’d have liked them. She fully remembered the conversation where she said no though!
It’s a very emotional day. Enjoy x

Piknik · 23/07/2026 17:27

@Nocameltoeleggingsplease Congratulations to your DD on her graduation and her thoughtful BF. It was DS who flagged it to me so brownie points for him.

We have got some her some flowers and are going out for dinner. I've heard of some ridiculously extravagant gifts being presented (Louboutins anyone?) but DD neither wants or expects anything beyond the bloody rabbit who is so soft that I might have fallen a bit in love

Thank you again to all the lovely people who helped and sort of understood that it doesn't make DD a TikTok Obsessed Needy Twat.

That’s good she didn’t need it on the stage. that was the concerning bit. Not having a bunny in general. But needing to clutch it on a stage as an adult. I have chuckled at the line about my blessed existence though!

I have no idea what MCR is. there’s nothing wrong with adults liking things that are traditionally ‘childish’ (LEGO, colouring etc etc) including soft toys, I think it’s the idea of parents having to rush round and buy a cuddly toy for their adult offspring because they will be upset otherwise (as per a previous poster that is making people raise their eyebrows.

Dontgetstuckinthepast · 25/07/2026 12:22

MCR = My Chemical Romance. Emo-pop. Just done Wembley Stadium.

SomersetBrie · 25/07/2026 15:18

I need to hide this thread!
I keep seeing it and now want a Jellycat bear in a yellow oilskin, despite being a fully grown adult with two graduations ceremonies (many years ago) under my belt.

ToadRage · 25/07/2026 15:27

That is sooo cute, I don't graduate til 2029 but my husband said if they are still doing them and I get a 2:1 he will buy me one.

I don’t see the relevance to the OP tbh. People are surprised at a parent frantically trying to source a cuddly toy for their adult offspring because of the implication that she had set her heart on it. Being into emo music and anime is hardly comparable.

Still it’s all ended well, she has the toy and she’s happy.

emmadoher · 25/07/2026 15:49

LMFAO! You've gone from calling it "the fucking bunny" to being all soft over it! Absolutely priceless! 🤣🤣🤣

You know they have lots of bunnies, OP, not just the graduation ones? And that lots of adults love them? And that they're incredibly soft to cuddle in bed and that they also love to watch TV with you in the evening? So I heard, anyway. 😆

Go on, get yourself a new pet! It can only make your life better....

I'm not sure anyone "needs" to take their bunnies on stage. It's a graduation gift since it's wearing a mortarboard etc. so is perfectly appropriate, and presumably the students are holding them like you'd hold any gift you'd been given and had nowhere to put it, or didn't want to put it down in case it got swiped. How odd to jump to severe MH issues.

Justmadesourkraut · 26/07/2026 15:46

Glad you got it OP. Your daughter sounds great! And well done to her little bro for flagging it up, albeit a week or two later than would have been really helpful!

Please can you ask him what I should get for ds (23) when he graduates this autumn?? I could give him flowers - want to have something for him there on the day - but he'd probably give the flowers back to me to enjoy. He doesn't like champagne. And a can of cider or new pair of trainers just doesn't seem the same as a fluffy bunny!
